22.01.2022 Instead of composting that bit at the bottom of your celery, turn it upside down, sit it in water, and after a couple of days, it will do this!Get your students or own kids to try this, add some other vegetables and keep a journal of what they see each day.Science is cool! Stay well! - NM.

22.01.2022 A walk to an outdoor cinema to watch an educational slide show on marine life. The students are really enjoying hearing stories of Mr Trenchs adventures and learning about the sea creatures they may see on this trip. We even got up close and personal to the wildlife!

21.01.2022 Arriving late yesterday, introducing our newest team member, our very own new tractor "Lobby", who we have been planning to employ for many years. As you can see, Lobby has settled right into the new role, and has met with the wagon, the slasher and her driver. She cant wait to meet your students!! We are operational. Call the centre to have a chat about field trip opportunities. Have a great weekend.

18.01.2022 One of our Spiny Leaf Insects shedding its exoskeleton, a process called "ecdysis" or moulting. These insects do this several times until they reach maturity. If you look closely, you can see that the old exoskeleton is much smaller and still in one piece. Awesome little guys!

15.01.2022 Hello friends. In light of recent events,Camden Park EEC is currently exploring practical avenues for effective remote learning by way of online resources, virtual experiences and sustainability themed tasks for the home based student.Stay tuned and take care. - NM.

15.01.2022 This is Dr Bob James; one of the most enigmatic speakers at the recent Dairy Research symposium at Uni of Sydney. He is a legend in the U.S. in calf rearing science and presented some really interesting work looking at extended feeding of colostrum to calves which I thought might be worth exploring beside the new K-6 Science and Tech syllabus: Colostrum is the cows "first milk", it has antibodies essential to calves for protection from disease. It was well known that they ar...e absorbed by the calf for only the first 24 hours after birth but Bob was interested to know if there were benefits to the calf, other than disease prevention, from feeding colostrum longer. Working Scientifically testable question - "Does a longer period of feeding calves colostrum improve nutrient absorption? " He fed a large group of calves colostrum over a different number of days, choosing the calves in each feed group randomly. By checking their glucose blood levels he was able to show calves fed colostrum longer were able to absorb glucose more efficiently. It was a "fair test" because he used many calves in each group (replication), he allocated treatments randomly (randomisation) to calves of same age, breed and location (minimising unknown variables) and treatment included a "control" (one day feed - the industry standard). Regardless of the level of the content it is a pretty good illustration of the processes of "Working Scientifically and Design and Production" as it might look in real science.

14.01.2022 Many thanks to Mr Trench and Mr Matthews from Camden Park Environmental Education Centre for teaching us the true meaning of perseverance today. Windy condition...s meant the usual dive spots were unsuitable, but our guides did not give up. They took us to a sheltered beach where students were able to snorkel and view a variety of marine life, including an octopus! Our overnight camp at Jervis Bay has been a magnificent experience. We cant wait to come back next year! See more

05.01.2022 An unusual sight for us, but this Spoonbill recently took up residence in one of the many near empty dams near our Education Centre.Entirely preoccupied with its search, and not concerned at all by the 25 students on the bank nearby, this little one is a reminder of the far reaching impacts of the current drought gripping our State, with many animals needing to rely on new and often dangerous territory in their search for food.

02.01.2022 Perfect snorkelling conditions. We had a fabulous time - everyone got in the water.

01.01.2022 Great pic drawn by Savanna of Yr 5 after sharing an Australian Heritage adventure with us. Yes Mr Trench plays the bush banker for part of that scenario and she has absolutely nailed his chiselled features! Well done Savanna and thanks to you and your class for the letters.
