25.01.2022 Round 1 of the 2020 IDRU Competition is almost here! If you can't make it to the ground make sure you tune into Facebook Live and join our commentators Gregor M...acKenzie, Mike Shean and Matthew Wakeford as they call all the action from 1st Grade. This Saturday @ Camden Rugby Park Camden v Tech Waratahs 1st Grade - 3:15pm 2nd Grade - 1:30pm Illawarra Rugby Wollongong Tech Waratahs Rugby Club

25.01.2022 To the Camden Rugby Union Club Members and Supporters, It’s certainly a challenging time but we will need to accept that things will be different for a while. T...he committee is meeting and is currently being proactive on a range of things to have the club ready to go when the season starts. The committee is currently putting in place the following for the club: Liaising with a fitness instructor to set up fitness programs for both senior and junior players to be able exercise at home, at the ground or in their local parks. Liaising with a strength and condition instructor to set programs for both Senior and Junior players. In discussion with other rugby clubs from Illawarra and other zones to arrange matches or gala days after the Illawarra season completes (this might be twilight matches in the October-December period, to give our players additional games). Working on social event options, so when we are able to resume, they will ready to be operational in a short matter of time. If you have any ideas please forward them to the committee. Remember no matter how lame you think your idea is, it might be a great idea and we want to hear it!!! Social distancing does not mean social disconnection. If you need to physically isolate yourself, it’s more important than ever to maintain connections with your loved ones, friends and the rugby community. There are lots of ways to stay connected, be creative and I would love to see items on our social media pages like rugby footage old and new and any rugby related challenges. So have a think and send them through. Rugby Australia will be holding a meeting today and any information the club gathers, we will pass on to you. Yes, COVID-19 has impacted us all in some way and try to keep in perspective that the world will keep turning and the sun will still come up every day and Rugby Union will return. It’s a difficult time but there is support within the Camden Rugby Union Club and if you need help please ask. The safety and health of our players, members, parents, coaches, managers, sponsors and supporters will always be at the forefront of the Camden Rugby Union Club. Go the RAMS. 24.01.2022 The development of Camden Rugby Park continues as shown in these photos. However there was also time for a bit of relaxation. For some years there was an annual cricket match against the Camden Hockey Club. To the best recollection of those that were involved the Rugby Club is the current holder of the Perpetual Trophy. If it can be found a photo will be published. This game was played at the picturesque Camden Park Cricket ground Most of the workers (that word loosely descri...bes the motley crew in the picture below) are still actively involved in the Club. Can you identify them? There have been some inquiries about the timeline for the development of the facilities. One of the players from the early years, John Lillis, who is an architectural draftsman, was asked to come up with a plan for the Clubhouse. John decided that the setting and the towns historical connection to the sheep industry called for the building to replicate a shearing shed. The building is certainly evocative of that. Plans were prepared in 1989 and the buildings constructed between 1989 and 1994 when the official opening of the ground was celebrated. There were, of course, many volunteers involved in the construction work. However it is fair to say that the leading lights in the project were the then President of the Club, Bryan Herd, John Lillis and Danny Mulley.

12.01.2022 First stage of Camden Rugby's clubhouse

12.01.2022 To all Camden Rugby Supporters, Players, Parents, Coaches, Managers, Sponsors and Volunteers, We face unprecedented times - and I wanted you all to know that t...he committee has met and we are currently working on a lot of issues to be able to inform you more on where the club will be in the coming weeks, the reality is we don’t have all of the answers at the moment. We are as disappointed as all you with the delay to the start of the rugby season - a lot of hard work has been done by a broad group of people to give Camden Rugby a flying start to the season - and now as much as ever we value the support you continue to give Camden Rugby... We also want to reassure you all that the safety and health of our players, members, sponsors and supporters will always be at the forefront of any decision the club makes. Rugby outcomes, in all honesty, were a secondary concern in this environment. The committee is monitoring the various inputs from the government (both federal and local), Rugby Australia, NSW Rugby and Illawarra Rugby Union to ensure that we have the best information possible to do as much as we can to keep you informed. We'll be meeting with the coaches of the various teams to discuss plans for players to be able to maintain that hard won fitness outside of the team environment. But really, the most important thing is to keep yourself and your family safe during one of the most tumultuous periods in recent history. All that said - The Club is in a good financial position and with careful management should remain so, we will be here at the end of this and provide the ability for all of us to once again enjoy our great game. There is a lot that is unknown, but what I do know is that Camden Rugby Union Club has been around for over 45 years, we have been challenged before and tested but Camden Rugby Union club will find a way, with the help of the Camden Rugby Family we always have. Yours in Rugby, Richard Old President Camden Rugby Club Inc 0412 439 715

10.01.2022 The Chain Gang Back in March 2015 Peter McBride and a friend, Greg Wine, decided to help out down at Camden Rugby Park by painting the Clubhouse. By weeks end there were six people working on the project. The President was so impressed he asked if the supporters would be prepared to do the cleaning at the facility thereby saving the annual $1000.00 cost the Club was incurring. So the Rugby Supporters Group (now known as the Chain Gang) was born! The Chain Gang now is responsi...ble for most of the maintenance around the Club including mowing, cleaning, repairs and some capital works as well. With most valuable financial help provided by State and Federal Grants , Camden Council funds and money provided by sponsors and others such as AGL, Club Marconi, Camden Golf Club, Camden Lakeside and Camden RSL much has been achieved. The Chain Gang has grown from the 2 originals to about 28 members of whom we would hve between 8 and 12 most Fridays. The group is made up of former players, parents and grandparents of players and others interested in helping out and enjoying the camaraderie of the group. Some of the projects completed have been: painting internally and externally, replacing the two sets of stairs, organizing the building of the facilities shed and carrying out much of the internal improvement in that shed and lots more Of course activities have been curtailed in recent months but as the following photos show the Chain Gang is starting back to work and carrying out work under the supervision of Chairman of Facilities James Watson and on the ground boss Ross Neich. Shown below is Mike Wheeler changing the bearings on the mower and Alex Turner carrying out the less glamorous job of cleaning the bins.

10.01.2022 HOW OUR CLUB WAS FORMED There is no question we have ourselves a wonderful Rugby Club. There just seems to be a couple of versions of how we got there and who w...ould have thought, at the time, that within 12 months of the Club being formed, we were playing in a Grand Final. Agreed we started in 1975 and present at the first meeting were, amongst others, John ‘Cactus Jack’ Walsh, Ken ’Evergreen’ Macaulay, Stuart ‘Mugsy’ Hill, Peter ‘Maple’ Mapledoram and Peter Goodwin. A Committee was formed. The President was Ken Macaulay, Secretary Stuart Hill and Treasurer Peter Goodwin. A Coach John Walsh was appointed and by seasons end a Best and Fairest Player in David Peter Russell Black. We only had one team, which played in the Third Grade Illawarra Competition. We also made the Grand Final and got ‘pipped’ in extra time. Moving on 27 years to 4th August 1992 Ken Macaulay, Stuart Hill and Peter Mapledoram were all present at the initial meeting of the Camden Juniors. Then in 1993 our first Junior Team, the Under 17s, contained their sons Duncan Macaulay, Lindsay Hill and James Mapledoram. Ken Macaulay never got to 100 games but his son Duncan was most likely the first Camden Rugby Junior player to chalk up the milestone of 100 Senior games for the Club. Even now, on most Fridays, you will find Ken working on our Grounds, Stuart doing repairs, Dave whipper snipping around the fences at our Club Facilities and Bryan relating stories (all true) of events and characters which made the Club what it is. Out of the original team (attached) William ‘Billy’ Inglis, Phil ‘Lizard’ Peters and David ‘Yo’ Black all played over 100 games for the Club. John ‘JD’ Dounan coached for several years including our 1983 First Grade Grand Finalists while Tony ‘Rat’ Thornton coached First Grade for 5 years including our 1985 and 1989 Grand Finalists. Please enjoy listening to our 1975 Podcast as Ken Macaulay, Stuart Hill, Dave Black and Bryan Herd discuss how it all began. https://drive.google.com//1_G9aGbLYB_2yDARvF5hflmJoW0/view And visit our 1975 Archive page to learn more. http://www.camdenrugby.com.au/archive/1975

04.01.2022 With the photo posted yesterday we have begun an historical journey tracking the development of Camden Rugby Park from the modest start depicted by yesterday's photo to what is arguably one of the best country rugby facilities in NSW. We will intersperse the historical journey with stories and photos of what has been happening this year during the Convid19 shutdown. So below we have another photo/s from the past. This shows the extended Clubhouse from the causeway looking ...into the ground. Of note is the line of Casuarinas planted along the eastern boundary of the Park. Our current Groundsman, Chris Nestler, was the prime mover in planting and maintaining these trees. Later photos will show how successful Chris was in his endeavors. The photo on the right shows one of the many club members who volunteered their time, Terry Stiff, at work. Not sure which is the elder of the tractor and the driver See more
