25.01.2022 One afternoon after we had made camp, a mob of feral camels walked through the swale we were camped in. A mixed family mob of bulls, cows and calves. There appeared to be two dominant bulls, and you can see each at the end of the video, a lighter one coming in from the left of screen, and a darker one coming in on the right. Gidgee is panting because she had just chased the mob.... ... 18.01.2022 For the last two weeks or so cameleers Max, Andrew and Ric have been walking with 7 camels in the eastern Simpson. We had a few friends join us for a few days. There was one wet weather camp, but otherwise it's been clear skies and cold nights. And the desert looks magnificent. The abundant choice of feed means the Humps are very happy!... Andrew is about to head off on a 600km, 8 week solo walk, so we are taking a break from social media until mid-October.

16.01.2022 Let’s go back 100 years. Musha Mustante's camel team carrying wool from Cordillo Downs SA, walking through a flooded channel at Cooper's Creek near Innamincka, 1920. Photo and information supplied by State Library of South Australia. Presumably that’s Musha sitting between the load atop the lead camel as they crossed the creek. Cameleers walked beside their camels and seldom rode, as all the camels had packsaddles. A working camel was valuable and so there was no scope for... the luxury of riding. And that’s still the case with our camel team today - our cameleers walk all day and the camels are carrying loads, and not people.
