24.01.2022 We will be closed Friday 12 June due to unplanned and necessary works being undertaken this week. Apologies. We will be open Saturday - works will not be complete but we will be operative. We will also be closed the following Friday and Saturday 19 and 20 June - for medical reasons. We will update things as we go and know. Thanks for your understanding.

24.01.2022 A busy time of the year - the camellias are flowering the best ever, winter is the best time to both buy and plant out camellias, and we have another big week coming up. This weekend would have been the Toowoomba Hospice Camellia and Flower show - but this too is cancelled. We all be open this Friday and Saturday 17 and 18 July 2020 - 8.00 to 3.00 - and we have some great camellias available - sasanquas, japonicas, hybrids and more. Most in 140mm pots, most $13. No eftpos an...d please byo carry bags. See our web site for details for when we are planning to be open. Our gardens are suffering from lack of attention at the moment - you cant mow on crutches - but please feel free to wander and see our 400 camellia bushes in flower - well some of them anyway. www.camelliaglen.com See more

22.01.2022 Still a lot of flower on the camellias - we are ‘open to the public’ again Friday and Saturday 21 and 22 and again 28 and 29 August - 8.00 to 3.00. Come visit - walk the garden and see our 400 camellias - some still in flower - buy some for yours. No eftpos and please byo carry bags.

20.01.2022 Splashed and stripes - just a few japonica camellias in flower - Lady McKinnon, High Jinks, Roma Risorta, William Bartlett. Unfortunately we find that Roma Risorta and High Jinks often fail to open well in our subtropical climate. Our cold spell this week has seen these open well at the moment.

20.01.2022 Great sunset tonight - on the coldest day for a long time. Still had lots of folk visit during the day for their camellia fix - we have so many camellias, sasanquas, japonicas, hybrids, some species - get some for your garden. We have open to the public days during the camellia flowering season - most Fridays and Saturdays - see the website blog for details.

20.01.2022 Camellias flowering around the garden today. See the names captioned on each photo. Camellia Glen will be open to the public again this Friday 29 and Saturday 30 May 2020 - 8.00 to 3.00 There will be quite a few camellias in flower.

19.01.2022 Nice bit of rain - not that we have had more than a sprinkle. There so many camellias in flower right now. We will be open to the public again this Friday 24 and Saturday 25 July 2020 - 8.00 to 3.00 - we have over 150 different varieties to choose from - plenty of choice. Most of our plants are in 140mm pots and are $13 (with some species and reticulatas and selected vars $18). Please note we do not accept eftpos and please byo carry bags. You can wander the garden - it is un...kempt at the moment so apologies for that - but you can still see the flowers...... Camellia species Lutchuensis is a miniature single white flower, fragrant, and a great addition to any garden. It will prefer at least part shade but plenty of light. C.grijsii is a species camellia - a strong growing bush with single white flowers to 4-5cm and perfumed. Some say toothpaste or aniseed - depending on the individual Zenzhoucha is a hybrid camellia with grijsii in the parentage - it has a small white double flower perfumed similar to the parent and with fine foliage. 19.01.2022 Tama no Ura is renowned as a good mother - it seeds very well - and there are many registered varieties of japonica camellias who claim Tama no Ura as seed parent. One such seedling, raised by QCS member (decd) Len Norup, he called Tama Honnie (named for his granddaughter). Tama Honnie also seeds well - and these three photos are 3 different Tama Honnie seedlings - flowers are unnamed - that have seeded for us from cuttings of the original Tama Honnie.

18.01.2022 Just a wee update - our website is operational again - a bit of tweaking still to do. Thanks for your patience. Camellia Glen garden and nursery will be open to the public Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August 2020 - 8.00 to 3.00. Lots of camellias available - sasanquas that will cop the full sun, japonicas for those shady areas - part shade and high shade from trees is great - hybrids, miniatures (miniature flowers that is - some 2 to 5cm), fragrant camellias, species camelli...as and a reducing number of reticulatas. Most stock is in 140mm pots - plants 18 to 24 months old and vary from 30cm to 90cm depending on the growth habit of the variety. Still some 150 different varieties available - wander our garden and see our 400 or so camellias in the garden (many magnolias and vireyas rhododendron are flowering too) - and then you can buy some for yours. Pick your own from our display area or we can help. This is a great time to buy and plant out camellias - get them into the ground and established before the rigors of spring growth and the heat of early summer. Meanwhile, sit back, water in your newbies and enjoy this wonderful SE Queensland weather. Please note - keep the Covid-19 distancing rules. See more

17.01.2022 Some of the camellias flowering at the moment - at this time of the year we are spoiled for choice as they are all showing off. Our camellias are just spectacular this season - thanks in part to the good rain we received in late summer when the flowers were developing. Open again Friday 31/7 and Saturday 1/8 - come visit - more camellias than you are likely to see at one time in one place. Get some for your garden....

16.01.2022 Camellias - we have sasanquas for full sun and part shade and japonicas and hybrids for the shady places. Due to other cancelled/postponed events, we will be open this Friday and Saturday, 1 and 2 May. 8.00 to 3.00 Other times by arrangement. Please call first on 54450333 to confirm. Social distancing rules still apply - but happy for you to visit. Lots of sasanquas are flowering now. Most plants in 140mm pots and 12 to 24 months old.... See them in our garden - buy some for yours. Byo carry bags - no eftpos See more

16.01.2022 Just saying.......

16.01.2022 One of the dark red camellia hybrids - Black Opal. It is liking our current dull, overcast and drizzly rainy days -

15.01.2022 There are lots of camellia species that are reasonably available - like rosiflora, Tsaii, Lutchuensis, Miyagii, sinensis (and pink sinensis), Crapnelliana, grijsii, transnokoensis and nokoensis. Growing conditions vary and differ with geography - sinensis, the tea camellia, is grown in full sun in tea plantations from China to Atherton - mostly at altitude, but most of these do better for us (in Palmwoods on the Sunshine Coast, South East Queensland) in part shade. Then there... are a bunch of other species camellias - many difficult to propagate and therefore hard to come by - which we are still learning to grow. How to best propagate them, cuttings, seeds, grafts - when to do it. What is the after care. Then what conditions do we keep them in - do we plant out in the garden, keep them in pots, will they take sun, do they need shade. This will all differ with geography, location, climate. Our weather/climate is so different to the hills outside Sydney or Melbourne. We have hot wet summers and cool dry winters - others have cold wet winters and hot dry summers. What works for one might not work elsewhere. We have seen forests of Nitidissima and others of the yellow camellias growing under dense shade (cultivated, not natural) - in Guangzhou China - and that is what we try to replicate here. In our experience, Nitidissima foliage that gets direct sun will go pale green and look washed out. We have seen Amplexicaulis growing (China) in the open with not a shade tree in sight, with dark green giant leaves and flowers galore, and with seedlings growing naturally underneath. Camellia Azalea (changii) seems to prefer at least part shade - as seen growing in the Singapore Botanical Gardens and in a walled garden in Guangzhou with 40 or 50 hybrids of c.azalea - all in part shade. Our treatment is to provide almost full shade but plenty of light. Some will take more sun than others but we are careful as we dont have many to experiment with. These are a few photos of where we are growing some of our species camellias in our garden. Some, I hope, will find this of interest - Elizabeth OMalley-Navin See more

15.01.2022 Camellias, Camellias, Camellias - sasanquas are flowering so well this autumn and now the japonicas have started seriously. We have hundreds of varieties available and we are open to the public again this Friday 5 and Saturday 6 June - 8.00 to 3.00. Check out the 400 or so Camellias in our garden - buy some for yours. Sasanquas suitable for full sun, japonicas and hybrids for part shade, fragrant camellias, species..... Here a a few...

15.01.2022 We collected seed from a few of our camellia species earlier in the year - these were some that we have just potted up. They include Crapnelliana (largest of the camellia seeds), Nitidissima and Amplexicaulis. All seeds were picked from our own trees. Others we did last season - Tsaii, Pingguoensis Var terminalis, Chekiangoleosa.

15.01.2022 One of our species camellias - Nitidissima - this one is about 5 metres and growing in good shade under a big poinciana. Photos show a seed pod from last years flowers (there is a number of them but they are not mature yet) and the others show the yellow buds of this seasons flowers. These will flower from mid to late June and for about 10 weeks.

14.01.2022 One of the last flowers for the season on camellia hybrid Waterlily.

14.01.2022 Camellias - now is the time to get your camellias and get them planted out before the new growth starts. In fact, some japonicas are starting already. Camellia Glen is open to the public again this Friday 28 and Saturday 29 August 2020. - 8.00 to 3.00. We have sasanquas for sunny spots, for hedges and privacy screens, japonicas for shady gardens, small leaf and fragrant hybrids for highlights. Plants in 140mm pots - most are $13. Come visit, lots of camellias still in flower in our garden - get some for yours. Here are a few ....

13.01.2022 After a number of enquiries as to when we we will be open to the public again, we have decided to open Friday 18 and Saturday 19 September 2020 - 8.00 to 3.00. As usual we are available by arrangement at other times - please call 54450333 to make a time. We will decide on an October date later.... There will be few camellias in flower but we will still have lots of both sasanquas and japonicas/hybrids - in 140mm pots. We are hoping for rain - the garden needs it. I wish we could say we have these for sale - but sadly no - c.amplexicaulis and c. concinna

13.01.2022 Love seeing new flowers appearing and opening. These are a few different and interesting ones we saw yesterday among our collection. The first flower to open on a grafted Reticulata Warwick Berg. Warwick Berg is usually a solid colour but this one came out differently. Flower Girl seeds quite readily - this was just a chance seedling - we like the more double flower and the richness in the colour. It has flowered consistently for a few seasons. Size - about 12cm... Our first flower on Pink Granthamiana. It is a strong grower and this flower is 14-15cm (5in).

12.01.2022 We have just 3 more Fridays and Saturdays where we plan to be open to the public - 14 and 15, 21 and 22, and 28 and 29 August - 8.00 to 3.00. We still have a great range of sasanquas and japonicas and hybrids available - in 140mm pots. Check out our 400 or so in or garden and select some for yours. We are happy to help you with your selections to make sure that what you get will suit the position. After this, we will be available by appointment - as usual. Just call 54450333... to arrange a convenient time. Current Covid-19 distancing rules apply. Please be patient and respect others. Come visit. See more

12.01.2022 Different faces of Camellia Japonica Black Tie - this morning. Certainly a favourite with many gardeners - and always a great shrub. Flowers arent bad too!

12.01.2022 Camellias are in full flower at the moment - particularly japonicas, hybrids and reticulatas. Some say they have flowered early, some that theirs are the best flowers ever. We put it down to great spring and summer rain - but whatever the reason, Camellias are having a great year. Here are a few that are flowering in our garden now. Camellia Glen has another 4 planned Fridays and Saturdays where we will be open to the public - 8.00 to 3.00. 7 and 8 August, 14 and 15 August, 2...1 and 22 August, 28 and 29 August - Covid-19 rules considered. We have a great range of great camellias in 140mm pots still available this season. Come and visit, wander our garden, buy some camellias for yours. See more

10.01.2022 Camellia hybrid Yume seeds readily. We have had two of three seedlings flower for the first time this season - one is pure white, about 8 -10cm. with yellow stamen. A strong bush with leaves considerably larger than the seed parent, Yume. The second, very large and oval shaped leaves, a pink flower with white, 10cm single with yellow stamens. The last pic shows a comparison with the seed parent Yume.

10.01.2022 And so, this weekend would have been Queensland Garden Expo at the Nambour Showgrounds - and unfortunately this too has been cancelled. For many years Camellia Glen has had a stand at the QGE with a great range of camellias. Get your camellias this Friday and Saturday 10 and 11 July 2020 direct from us - open 8.00 to 3.00 - and you will be able to choose from our entire range of sasanquas, japonicas, hybrids, and a diminishing range of reticulatas and species camellias. And you can wander our garden- there should be plenty in flower this weekend. Please byo carry bags and note we do not accept eftpos. See you then.

10.01.2022 Some white camellias - a special request - just for you nurse Carol

09.01.2022 Camellia Reticulata Simpatica - flowering now.

09.01.2022 We will have camellias - not a lot of flowers but it should be fun

08.01.2022 A new discovery - for us - in our garden. Camellia japonica Grace Albritton is a beautiful small formal double flower with a most interesting depth to the flower - and white with blush pink tips to the petals. Then we see a red flower - same size, same shape, same depth - but red. Grace Albritton is known to have a number of sports - but none that I can see as being red. We will mark this branch and see what it does next season.

07.01.2022 Our SEQ flowering season is past its zenith - still lots out - japonicas, hybrids and reticulatas - but sasanquas and early japonicas are all but done. A favourite white formal double japonica is a Paolina Maggi. The description says that it frequently has a pink stripe among the petals. In fact must have a pink splash/stripe - even a whole petal sometimes - and sometimes its hard to find. Here are some examples - some of the blooms are lousy but look for the pink.

07.01.2022 For those of you gardeners who are wanting more camellias for your garden, Camellia Glen will be open to the public Friday and Saturday 26 and 27 June 2020 - 8.00 to 3.00. And more in the future. Many varieties of camellia available - sasanquas for the full sun, japonicas, hybrids will perform best in part shade - most in 140m pots and still only $13. Please byo carry bags and note we do not accept eftpos - cash still seems to work. Please show patience as we work around recent works and with Steph performing solo as I continue on TKR leave. Below - sasanqua Gerdas Gem and japonica Tamzin Coull

07.01.2022 Just setting up for the Maleny Garden Club ‘Spring Fair’ - a bit late for our camellias so we will have no flowers - but we do have a very nice range of varieties of camellias - sasanqua, japonica and the odd hybrid and species. Come and visit. No eftpos . Should be fun!

06.01.2022 Our first flowers on camellia species polyodonta. Original scions from Bob Cherry a few years ago. Seems to do quite well for us. Great leaf.

03.01.2022 Camellia Glen will be open to the public again this Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August 2020 - 8.00 to 3.00. We have many varieties of Sasanqua - which have all but finished flowering now - japonicas - about 150 different varieties with many in the garden flowering now - hybrids and a decreasing number of Reticulata and species. Most are in 140mm pots and are $13 - species and retics $18. There is a small range in 200mm pots - these are $24. Probably the most inclusive range... of camellias you are likely to see in one place at one time. Come visit - wander the garden - we have about 400 camellias, a bunch of magnolias, Vireya rhododendron and azaleas - it is unkempt at the moment, sorry, but the mowing man and gardener is out of action for a while. Our website has been got at - it is being investigated now and we hope to have it corrected soon. One of my favourites - Japonica Cherries Jubilee - a deep velvety red in our soil with splashes of white on the inner petals/petaloids, on a compact upright bush, and dark green foliage. See more

03.01.2022 A lot of people have commented on how good the azaleas have flowered this year - with lots more to come. The lack of rain in SE Queensland and dry air has resulted in the flower petals staying fresh and not turning brown. This browning of the petals and the flowers going mushy is often put down to Azalea petal blight which particularly affects the flowers when they get wet. Azalea petal blight can be treated chemically with good results. But - here in SE Queensland, what ...we get on our azaleas is often not petal blight but botrytis - a similar fungal result with petals going brown and mushy - but different. And it needs a different treatment. People have sometimes said that they dont like azaleas because of petal blight - that they spray for petal blight with no result. Thats because they dont have petal blight....... Treat for botrytis and not petal blight. It took us a couple of years to get this right. Take care when using any chemicals and chemical sprays.

02.01.2022 Sunday 5 July 2020 was the scheduled Queensland Camellia Society Annual Show and Sale at the Auditorium at the Mt Coottha Botanic Gardens. As previously advised, restriction and timings regarding Covid -19 has meant that the show has been cancelled - called some weeks ago as uncertainty reigned supreme. The QCS Show certainly plans to come back in 2021. Meanwhile, many people who look forward to adding to their camellia collection at this show have been satisfying their ne...ed - buying direct from Camellia Glen. Camellia Glen, in Palmwoods, has been supplying camellia plants for the QCS Show for many years and is open to the public again this Saturday 4 July 2020 - 8.00am to 3.00pm. An advantage of visiting direct is that there will be a vastly larger range of varieties available - from sasanquas, japonicas, hybrids, etc. See the website blog for details of this and future days open to the public. Camellia Glen is also available by arrangement - please call to arrange a time. No eftpos.

02.01.2022 Sometimes people ask how we grow our camellias - we say - by cuttings. So for those interested, here is our process. Remember that we are in SE Queensland. Cuttings -...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Still a lot of flower on the camellias - we are open to the public again Friday and Saturday 21 and 22 and again 28 and 29 August - 8.00 to 3.00. Come visit - walk the garden and see our 400 camellias - some still in flower - buy some for yours. No eftpos and please byo carry bags.

02.01.2022 We have lots going on in the yard at the moment with some fairly major pluming works. There have been casualties including a 30 year old 2m tall standard japonica Fashionata. We are hopeful that it can survive the relocation - but for the moment we were able to collect these flowers. We are definitely closed this weekend - until the place is accessible again - a few more days. Watch this space!

01.01.2022 We have a few camellia species flowering right now - these are a bunch of the white ones - names captioned with the pics. Granthamiana, vietnamensis, gauchowensis, lucii, elephant mountain, (not) aurea and (not) Minutiflora. Other white species we have include salicifolia, Furfuraceae, and then there is Grijsii and the double flowering hybrid Zhenzhucha (fragrance reminiscent of aniseed) Crapnelliana, sinensis, lutchuensis, nokoensis, transnokoensis, miyagii, yuhsienensis, Tsaii, irrewadiensis....
