24.01.2022 We have just been informed by Ray Garnett’s daughter Ann Hardy that Ray passed away peacefully last night at the age of 92. Ray has left the camellia world some wonderful legacies with his hybridising of many great cultivars. The world has lost not only a great supporter to the camellia world but also a true gentleman. 4 lovely camellias originated by Ray.

18.01.2022 Royston (C.japonica) C.Aust., Camellia News, Autumn 2008, No.176, p.13, colour photo p.19, Reg. No. 573. A chance seedling of Charlie Bettes. Originated by by Roy. H. Campbell, Maddington, Western Australia. The off-white, rose form double flower has 48 petals, is 13 cm across x 6 cm deep, and flowers early to mid-season on a compact , bushy plant. Leaves mid-green, glossy and keeled. Flowers fall whole.

No.1992: A very large, red, rose form double chance C.reticulata seedling of 'Purple Gown', (Zipao), originated by E. Kettle, Victoria, Australia that flowers mid-season to late. First bloomed 1968. Average flower size, 15 cm across x 3.8 cm deep. Plant growth is upright and medium with light green leaves. Chinese synonym 'Libeika Xiaojie'.

A chance seedling of C.x williamsii ‘Waltz Dream’, first flowering in 2003. A trumpet shaped, miniature to small single, with 5-6 slightly ruffled orchid rose petals of similar colour to the seed parent. A typical bloom is 55-70 mm across and 30-40 mm deep, with a divided pistil originally extending above the column of pale yellow stamens which are capped with ...bright yellow pollen which quickly dulls. Free flowering from early to late season and no petaloids have ever been sighted. The flowers fall whole. The upright, spreading plant of medium growth rate has flat, glossy, elliptic, medium green leaves with an acute apex and which are finely serrate. Seed parent C.x williamsii Donation, pollen parent unknown. A semi-double, delicate pink (RHS.CC.56C- 56D), cup-shaped flower of 15 petals, 13.5 cm diameter x 5.5 cm deep. Colour fades to base of petals. Petals notched. Flowers freely over a long season on an upright, bushy plant of rapid growth. Leaves dark green, glossy, flat, narrowly elliptic, acute apex and base, fine serrations, 11 cm long x 4 cm wide. When in full bloom, plant displays a weeping form.
