17.01.2022 What an amazing line up of NEWCASTLE'S CUTEST PET 2020 Judges we have! Here's how the judging process works.... Each of our 4 judges will be sent an electronic gallery of the 3 categories and all the entrant cards in each - they will be able to issue points to each separate category (Dogs & Puppies, Cats & Kittens, Pocket Pets & Other). They will be issuing 6 points, 3 points and 1 point to any pet in a category - these points will be calculated to determine who has the h...ighest point score. If we have a tie - the photos will go back to the judges with a second round of judging where the same technique will be used. We are absolutely busting to see what the judges will be looking for! Please remember the promotion is just a little bit of fun during an uncertain time through the pandemic and all of these incredible judges are donating their time - so no bribes or abuse ok! With over 2000 submissions, we feel so proud of our wonderful models Scooby, Eva and Maisey who brought their A game. ... Greyhound rescue is a wonderful organisation that works tirelessly to find loving and permanent homes for greyhounds no longer wanted by the racing industry. 15.01.2022 SORRY we've been so quite! I guess you could say I've taken "pupternity leave". If you missed the news - we had a very special little wet nose join our family a week ago and the demands of his training, crucial socialisation and exposure at this age have been time consuming. "Atlas" is in training (owner trained with the assistance of The Good Dog - Newcastle) to become a certified assistance dog for my youngest child and I've been feeling the pressure of ensuring he is ex...posed to EVERYTHING before he hit's that 16 weeks mark. It's crucial we make great decisions and set up good routines for this little one while he is still young, so that will mean a reduction in after hours appointments as I used that small window where my husband is available to allow me to get this guy out into the world! If you see us exploring in his little vest with big "L" plates, by all means come and say hi but remember no patting when he's "working". If you'd like to follow his journey - (and my grey hair moments) of trying to training a puppy as an assistance dog with my extra need babes at home - you can do so on insta @ a.is.for.atlas

03.01.2022 ** SONIA HORNERY - Mp ** Final Judge for Newcastle's Cutest Pet 2020! We are so excited to have Sonia Hornery MP on board - she's a mover and a shaker in our area, always getting things done for those with 2 legs and 4. A local through and through, we can't think of a better final judge to be sitting on the panel. Sonia studied teaching at the University of Newcastle, before teaching in Walgett, Kempsey and all around the Hunter. She also spent time in the Army Reserves.... After leaving teaching, Sonia worked in a variety of positions related to the health field, including Hunter Brain Injury Respite Options. She earned a Bachelor of Arts, with Honours, in History. She was a Councillor on the Newcastle City Council from 2002 until 2008, was elected to represent Wallsend in 2007 and was re-elected in 2011. In 2013, Sonia was elevated to the NSW shadow cabinet as Shadow Minister for the Hunter and Science and Medical Research and has since added the Arts portfolio to her responsibilities. Sonia was again elected in 2015 to represent the Wallsend electorate. Thanks so much Sonia for jumping on board without hesitation.
