24.01.2022 The results from one of my patient’s SIBO breath tests showing both hydrogen and methane dominant SIBO.. My patient ate what an outsider would consider an extremely healthy and balanced diet, full of whole plant foods. Unfortunately, he noticed pain and bloating after eating, unpleasant changes to his breath smell and exhaustion. He couldn’t work out why until we did further testing, excluding parasites and H. pylori as differential diagnoses. Small Intestinal Bacterial ...Overgrowth is a dominant driver of IBS and unfortunately one of the primary reasons people abandon a vegan diet, since it makes them react badly to many of the incredibly healthy fibrous whole plant foods they’re eating. This is one example of how a food can be incredibly healthy for the general population, but not for a certain individual at a given time can be really problematic. The patient is currently following a vegan SIBO diet and has seen a significant improvement in his symptoms very quickly; soon he will move on to his first round of antimicrobial treatment.
