24.01.2022 At times I am prone to overthinking. This leads me to feel tense and as if I have no control over things. Work-life, relationships and health all come under my obsessive scrutiny in a rat-on-a-treadmill fashion. Then I remember my breath, feel my body and recall heart-related matters, and things begin to soften. But I have to remind myself quite often...

23.01.2022 If you are keen for some holiday yoga, I have a bunch of recorded sessions available. $10 each or $100 for unlimited access to 15 classes. Pm me!

22.01.2022 You may be pleased to know that restorative is scheduled for this week. Rest your nervous system, balance your hormones, quieten your busy brain and just be.

21.01.2022 If we let our ego rule our practice, we cause ourselves great harm. Maybe not straight away but over time, when we don't listen we are disconnected and override our better knowing and injuries occur.

21.01.2022 Quandamooka Sunday with she-oak. She-oaks are remarkable in that they can handle extreme conditions of wet or dry and low-nutrient soils. This one would cop lots of salt and wind perched on a headland as it is. Resilient. I love the sound of the breeze through their needles, the light shade they cast, the sagey colour. In Australian Bush Flower Healing the essence of the the she-oak balances female hormones and hydrates the system.... They don't need us. See more

21.01.2022 Listening well is a powerful way we can support one another. You needn't be in agreement with the person you are listening to but you give them your fullest attention. Listening is not about concocting a response, offering advice nor filling a silence that may need to be there. We honour the fact that they have something valid to share and ultimately know what's best for themselves. If they are abusive or after a time do not return the favour of good listening, then we are... under no obligation to stay and would do well to move away from that situation. I posit that the practise of yoga is listening carefully to ourselves. Photo credit Cath Appleton

20.01.2022 Yesterday I was reminded in a teaching by HH Dalai Lama that most of the destructive emotions we experience are based on the appearance of things rather than how they really are. I found this very helpful. This is probably true for positive emotions too but at least those help us to be happy and kind! #hhdalailama #lovingkindness #seeingthepositive #mindtraining #dependentarising

19.01.2022 This week's poem is an excerpt from Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey: you tell me to quiet down cause my opinions make me less beautiful but I was not made with a fire in my belly... so I could be put out i was not made with lightness on my tongue so i could be easy to swallow was made heavy half blade and half silk difficult to forget and not easy for the mind to follow See more

18.01.2022 Yoga can be practiced irrespective of whether one is young or old, male or female, healthy or unhealthy, valid or invalid, poor or rich, under-nourished or over-nourished. That is its beauty. BKS Iyengar

15.01.2022 I like to set a motivation or intention at the beginning of every session. It goes: Through our practise of yoga today, may our bodies be supported to be... open and relaxed clear and aligned strong, steady and flexible; may they be well. May these qualities translate to a steadiness and balance of mind, a clarity and ease, may we be creative and lean towards a positive thought-stream. May these qualities in turn manifest in the heart as love, kindness and compassion for ourselves, for others, for all beings, for the planet that holds us and the air we breathe so that in all our thoughts, words and actions we seek to bring benefit and refrain from doing harm wherever we can. May all these qualities arise as a result of our practise of yoga today.

14.01.2022 This week's poem is from Rainer Maria Rilke Quiet friend who has come so far, feel how your breathing makes more space around ... you. Let this darkness be a bell tower and you the bell. As you ring, what batters you becomes your strength. Move back and forth into the change. What is it like. such intensity of pain? If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine. In this uncontainable night, be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses, the meaning discovered there. And if this world has ceased to hear you, say to the silent earth: I flow. To the rushing water speak: I am.

13.01.2022 In concluding a class I like to dedicate the benefits; "Through our practice may our bodies, minds and hearts be clear and well in order that we only bring benefit and refrain from harming others and the planet that holds us, to the best of our ability".

13.01.2022 I fee like yoga teaches us how to do life both on and off the mat. To be gentle, to be attentive to what is happening and to reflect. Yoga teaches us to balance the elements of body, mind and heart to the best of our ability.

13.01.2022 Back to twists and forward bends this week! Sooo nice for the back. Relieves the stiffness and brings lightness and pliability to the spinal muscles

12.01.2022 I love this pose. Ardha Chandrasana or Half Moon Pose. It stretches just about everything! Legs, hips, spine, chest, shoulders. Excellent for abdominal organic health, it also challenges us to balance on one leg. Of all the standing postures it gives back more energy than it takes.... This photo was taken on sunset up at a lookout on the edge of Lamington National Park. (shame about the car right?!) See more

12.01.2022 The body is an eco-system like any other. It needs clean water, air and nutrient. It needs input like any other community. We are a community within a community. #cleanliving #weneedoneanother

11.01.2022 It's tempting to think that when things aren't going well that it's all for reasons outside ourselves. There are many things beyond our control, but the thing we have most control over is ourselves. The capacity we have to transform ourselves is immeasurable.

11.01.2022 Yoga practice is like medicine. For it to heal you've got to take it!

10.01.2022 Blessing in the Chaos by Jan Richardson To all that is chaotic ... in you, let there come silence. Let there be a calming of the clamoring, a stilling of the voices that have laid their claim on you, that have made their home in you, that go with you even to the holy places but will not let you rest, will not let you hear your life with wholeness or feel the grace that fashioned you. Let what distracts you cease. Let what divides you cease. Let there come an end to what diminishes and demeans, and let depart all that keeps you in its cage. Let there be an opening into the quiet that lies beneath the chaos, where you find the peace you did not think possible and see what shimmers within the storm Thanks to Janie Gibbons #calmayogini for sharing

10.01.2022 "Today, yoga has become popular as a healing method since it has curative and preventative value. But its scope is wider than this. The healing and therapeutic value is a kind of positive side-effect of sdan (practice), a by-product. From this healing process, the urge to go further, to go close to the unknown, may start sooner or later." Geeta Iyengar

05.01.2022 Happy spring! Oh yeah, and get your feet on a mat!

02.01.2022 Next time you are in nature, nay, any time; fully open your senses to what's around you. (well maybe avoid this if you are on a busy road or the like!) What do you hear, near and far? What do you see, from large shapes, colours, textures and movements, to the tiniest details? What do you feel, under your feet, your seat, at your skin? What scents are about? is there a taste that accompanies this moment? Is there an atmosphere, energy or extra-sensory experience just now? Take the time to really sense what this moment holds.

01.01.2022 "Know your capacities and continually improve upon them" BKS Iyengar #guruji #lightonlife

01.01.2022 Change is not something that we should fear. Rather it is something that we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they're meant to be. BKS Iyengar
