09.01.2022 Skip to 2 hours 22 minutes 30 seconds. This is the interview from the 1988 drovers reunion with my father (Bomber Stacey) & his siblings at New Castle Waters which was repeated last Sunday on Australia All Over.

08.01.2022 Bruce Simpson the Packhorse Drover was at Camooweal spelling his plant and he got a bit sweet on my mother who was a single school teacher there at the time. I ...found this quite famous poem that Bruce wrote and he gave it to mum. This is a beautiful poem and I hope you like it as much as I do. Crippled You may rub your head on my coat old chap As you stand by the gate in pain And I loose the knot in the Greenhide strap That you never shall wear again You may nudge my hand as you’ve done so oft In the days that have gone for aye For you’ll carry me never again on watch Round the camp at the break of day -------- You will wait no more for the Stores to splash By the light of the storm lashed sky When the scrubs re-echo the thunders crash Round the camps on the Muranji No more by the night horse break you’ll doze In the chill of a winters night When the branches stir and the back-log glows And the stars wink cold and white ----- You will draught no more as the grey dust swirls From the camp and never again Will you wheel the rouges by the Stockyard Wings When we yard for the cattle trains We may find another with swinging gait To ride thro the trucking town And there will be others who’ll quietly wait By the peg as the stars look down ---- We may find another to match your pace Thro the scrub when the fireworks start But never another to take the place That you hold in a drover’s heart Your mates have stood on the Camp since dawn You are watching alert and keen The packs are on and the girths are drawn But the fence stands there between ----- The plant is off on the road again And here by the paddock gate The days to follow and all in vain You will stand by the yard and wait And often out on the western track When the evening shadows fall Our thoughts will turn to the gamest hack And the best night horse of all ---- Actor, farewell till your last lone sleep May never the creek run dry May the grass be whispering fetlock deep Forever, old chap Good bye By Bruce Simpson

01.01.2022 Anyone got any idea on the history of this whip handle? A friend of mine Kurt Hammer was helping to pull down the old saddle shed at Wave Hill NT a fair few ye...ars ago. This whip handle was hidden inside some bore casing that they had the corrugated iron attached to for the roof and fell out when it was pulled down. The whip handle has lead or solder inlayed into carvings on the handle. I am not sure how it was done so neatly without power tools. It could possibly be made by Fred Gutt the legendary old blacksmith who made the Wave Hill spurs. Anyone have any ideas?

01.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL TRAVELLERS HEADING TO BEDOURIE To all travellers heading to Bedourie please ensure you are well stocked up on groceries and fuel. A fire at the S...impson Desert Oasis has resulted in it being unable to provide the following services to the community and travellers:- groceries, diesel & ULP, takeaway food, restaurant meals & bar. It is still open for vehicle repairs, hardware, motel accommodation and caravan park. The Bedourie Royal Hotel is still fully operational offering accommodation, coffee and meals. Further updates will be released as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

01.01.2022 Hi All, A guy from a page Ringers from the Top End suggested I post here! I believe it will be of interest to all of you and I think a lot from what I have seen... posted, will find the book and stories enchanting! My grandma, Anne Marie Ingham, an author, artist and stud cattle and sheep breeder /producer, wrote a few books on the northern parts of Australia (including The Boss Drover and his Mates), cattle, droving and tales of mateship. Her last book before she passed away, "Wild Cattle Wild Country" explores tales of Ernie Rayner who began as a ringer and progressed to head stockmen. The book tells the stories or mateship, men who worked on horses mustering, and captures the life of bull catchers, ringers, pilots and Aboriginal stockmen. A book of funny, sad and enchanting moments of history of Australian men and women in northern Australia and each photo and story is a personal one of those she (my grandma) spoke to. We have a number of boxes of books left, and are from the last print run that happened not long before she passed away. They are $40 each including postage nationally. If you are interested for either yourself a fathers day or Christmas present for someone simply send me a message! Thank you! :)
