17.01.2022 Hot water problems do I need a Plumber or Electrician? 1. The first place to check is the switchboard (the place where all your circuit breakers or fuses are) 2.... If the circuit breaker has tripped, test to see if you can turn it back on. If not call an electrician. 3. Check the pressure relief valve at your hot water system. There is a lever at the top of the valve designed to test the system. Lift this lever till water is seen coming out the over flow. a. If the water takes a while to come out the over flow it may just need a top up. The other symptom of this is you only have hot water for a short time at the taps. b. If hot water comes out the over flow and cold water at the taps call a plumber you probably have a faulty tampering valve. 4. Call a plumber if: the hot water system is leaking from the base, or there is no water coming out the taps, or the over flow is continuously leaking water. Solar Hot Water Systems 1. These are located on the roof of the dwelling and it is not recommended untrained persons go on to the house roof. 2. Solar hot water systems often have a boost switch located somewhere in the house for the cooler months. Check this is on (it often has a red LED lamp next to it to indicate it is on). Gas Hot Waters Systems 1. Gas storage systems often have a pilot light and can blow out, instructions to light them are often found on the system. If unsure how to do it call a plumber.
