23.01.2022 Yesterday the educators and children at Kabbarli celebrated Chinese New Year. The first day of the Lunar Year will be this Friday the 12th of February, however we decided to celebrate today so that Isabella’s mum Delia was able to come in and teach the children all about the legends and traditions of Chinese New Year. These included traditional dances, legends about the monster Nian some painting of a cherry blossom, a traditional Chinese flower. Delia explained that this yea...r was the year of the Ox, and explained how the Chinese zodiac was established. Families at this time would traditionally gather together to celebrate the new year, one of the ways they would celebrate is making yummy food. Most of the children made their own lunch today, learning how to make spring rolls with the support from the educators. The children were given a red envelope with a chocolate coin inside and were wished another safe and peaceful year. The children and educators at Kabbarli would like to thank Delia for coming in and sharing her culture with us. See more

For a gold coin donation families can buy the fertiliser and at the end of the year we will send the money we have collected to the Bush Heritage fund. Bush Heritage Australia is a charity that partners with Aboriginal people to buy land so it can be protected for endangered native species and irreplaceable landscapes. To get the project started, the children used their fine motor skills to cut up banana skins and put them into jars to be made into liquid fertiliser. We are honoured to be supporting this worthy cause and learning more about sustainable practices.
