18.01.2022 International Day of People with Disability 2020 Today, 3rd of December, we celebrate all those in our community who live with a disability. The theme of this years IDPwD is Not all Disabilities are Visible. Did you know , according to the WHO World Report on Disability: ... 15% of the world’s population (more than 1 billion people) are living with disability; 450 million people are living with a mental or neurological condition. With two-thirds not seeking professional help; 69 million people will sustain a Traumatic Brain Injury each year worldwide; and One in 160 children are identified to be on the autism spectrum. These facts remind us that not all disabilities are apparent at first glance. This year, in particular with COVID-19, should reinforce the importance of strong connections, accessibility, community and inclusivity with others. We need to look beyond what those with a disability are unable to do and start to see the ABILITY in disability! To all our wonderful clients we thank you for being YOU and continuing to amaze us everyday with your ABILITIES!!! You are all an inspiration to those you meet! #IDPWD2020 #DisableStereotypes #ADay4All #disabilityawareness #inclusion #ability #amazing #strong #inspiration

11.01.2022 Joey the Superstar Today at hydrotherapy we had the privilege of having Joey, 5 years, attend our Centre. Joey is a very sweet and fun-loving little boy who has always had a fear around swimming pools. He loves bath time at home but has never gone in a pool before. Today was his very FIRST session and he absolutely smashed our expectations! Joey was so scared at first and it took some convincing however he slowly progressed from having the water touch his toes to swimmi...ng in the pool collecting balls!!! We asked Joey what he liked the most and he said all of it! He is now super keen and can’t wait to come back and do his exercises in water! He even asked his mum if he can swim in the neighbour’s pool! Well done Joey! You are truly amazing with what you achieved today and we are so proud to be on this journey with you! Keep up the good work!

05.01.2022 Brain Awareness Week March 15-21, 2021 Brain awareness week is a global campaign aimed at creating enthusiasm and increasing support for brain science. Here are some interesting facts about our brains - the powerhouse of the human body:... The human brain is comprised of 75% water - hydration is key to optimal brain function! Drink up! The human brain contains approximately 100 billion neurons - that’s almost the same number of stars in the Milky Way! Adult brains still make new neurons! This is called neurogenesis and factors like sleep, exercise and a healthy diet facilitate this process Your brain activity can power a small light bulb Your brain activity is unique to you - just like your fingerprints! Exercise is just as good for your brain as it is your body! Aerobic exercise has been shown to increase neurogenesis which increases brain volume and reduces the effects of dementia. Get moving! It’s important to keep our brains active everyday through both physical exercise and activities such as reading, doing puzzles, listening to music and arts/crafts.
