22.01.2022 It's really sad reading this, considering everything Victoria has been through over the past twelve months. Parts of the State suffered horrific bush fires before something strange spread beyond anyone's belief. If you light a fire to keep warm, cook or just watch the bush tv, please please please do the right thing and extinguish it properly.
22.01.2022 The Anne Beadell Highway runs from Coober Pedy in SA to just north of Laverton in WA. It traverses the Great Victoria Desert and was the first desert track created by Len Beadell and the Gunbarrel Construction Party between 1953 and 1962. Covering 1325km this remote and often corrugated track can be challenging, however, you'll find Australia's most isolated roadhouse situated almost halfway at Ilkurlka. This is cracking destination to add to your bucket list. 20.01.2022 Outback Queensland National Parks: Bladensburg Once a thriving sheep station, Bladensburg is now a beautiful National Park, accessible for all to explore. The old homestead is the Information Centre and Rangers Station and the nearby Shearing Shed still smells of the lanolin from the long-gone sheep. With a high clearance 4WD, you can explore the property on the 40km Scrammy Drive. Scrammy was a roustabout on the property who sadly drowned while camped on the jump up. This c...ircuit track takes you across the flood plains, past the old racecourse and the lonely grave of a young child before you climb up the jump up to see the waterhole where Scrammy lost his life, the Gorge named after him and finally a lookout across the plains that will leave you breathless. Bough Shed Hole is the solitary campground and the perfect spot to relax for a few days on the banks of Surprise Creek. 18.01.2022 Iytwelepenty/Davenport Ranges National Park Binns Track runs for over 2000km from Mount Dare to Timber Creek and covers some diverse and stunning country. Iytwelepenty/Davenport Ranges National Park is just one of the jewels and there are three great camping options at Whistleduck Creek, Old Police Station Waterhole and one suitable for high clearance 4WDs and offroad camper trailers along the Frew River 4WD Track. You will need to be self-reliant as this is remote country wi...th no facilities except for pit toilets at the designated camp grounds. A satellite phone is recommended to be carried for emergency purposes. The camping is serene by the permanent waterholes and the landscapes will leave you in awe. 16.01.2022 Kakadu Air offers one of the world’s most unique airborne experiences, a trip across the Never Never, a bird’s-eye perspective high up above floodplains teeming with wildlife: herds of grazing water buffalo, flocks of magpie geese, brumbies, giant water lilies. 08.01.2022 Outback Queensland National Parks: Diamantina Diamantina National Park is remote, located in the south-west of the state and closer to Birdsville than Brisbane. Hunters Gorge campground is on the banks of the Diamantina River and offers great views of the jump up towards Janet’s Leap and the Diamantina Gates. There is also a designated campsite at Gum Hole.... The old homestead is the information centre and highlights the history of the place from the first interaction between Aboriginals and the Europeans in the early 1800’s. A 90km self-drive tour takes you across Mitchell grass plains, past old rodeo yards, ruins, desert red sand dunes, gibbers, waterholes and boggy holes. Diamantina sits easily amongst the top 5 National Parks in Outback Queensland. 08.01.2022 Outback Queensland National Parks: Welford Welford National Park is bordered by the Barcoo River, 85km north-east of Windorah. Little Boomerang Campground is a great place to set up camp and explore the self-drive tracks over a couple of days. Or just throw in a line, a yabby net or cruise the river in a canoe. The park is home to expansive mitchell grass plains and mulga woodlands and changes from the grey soiled floodplains to vibrant dunes within its boundary. Jundah is 5...0km away and here you'll find a great little outback pub, a small grocery store and fuel stop. This is another great destination for your bucket list. 06.01.2022 The Old Ghan Heritage Trail and Chambers Pillar If you're looking for places to check out in 2021, why not add the Old Ghan Heritage Trail and Chambers Pillar to your list. 05.01.2022 A couple of generations ago, well 1972, a National Park was established in the far north west of New South Wales. It was named after Captain Charles Sturt, one of the original Overlanders who explored the region in his search for the inland sea. Covering over 340,000 hectares of semi-desert country, the park allows modern-day explorers like us to experience the changing conditions in this remote environment, as well as the opportunity to visit a remote outback pub!
