25.01.2022 Trick is to turn these into something like this.

20.01.2022 These two are off the same burl. One has coloured resin the other clear although it darkened up considerably when i sanded it. Both really nice items.

18.01.2022 Looks like we found the perfect sized vase for this project A lot of work to get the timber filled and presented nicely.

18.01.2022 Some serving boards ready for final coat , floral vase hollow log and a huge burl with blue resin. Not sure of the name of the yellow flowers but they grow on the medium strip just down the road. Shame they only flower once a year.

17.01.2022 Well i have scored the ultimate in roadside timber. This beast is the base of a gum that has been growing on the side of the road for longer than i can remember. Unfortunately it had to make way for the new highway, fortunately i was able to put my name to it. I pick it up on Friday 2.3m dia root base 1050 trunk. It has rocks and wire embedded which will only add to the character once polished and a clear resin put on. Many months of hard labour, chainsaw chains and grinder bits coming up to get this leveled, hollowed, dry and several coats of resin The photos don't do it justice. Yeah i know it would be better if i didn't have my mug in the shot

17.01.2022 The absolute marvel of nature. This is the honeycomb from an Asian bee swarm that made there home in my container. Unfortunately they were destroyed to protect our native bees but they left behind this engineering master piece. I have studied this long and hard and i cannot (without some super accurate measuring) pick out a chamber that is a different size or shape. All this with no hands. If only i were this clever.

16.01.2022 Great camping weekend with Dave and Angela. This little fella decided to break out off his shell while we were there. Lucky i didn't have a fishing rod or he would have been bait. He was a big sucker. I look forward to listening to him next time we camp. Nothing like a nice fire, cold beer, good ole camp stew and a yarn from Dave. Even earnt some brownie points with some wildflowers.

15.01.2022 Wonderful weekend away with the all the kids young and old to Granite Gorge. The grandkids loved the animals and space to run around. Weather was perfect. Cooked a very tasty stew and bread. Won some brownie points with Sue, possibly the nicest flowers i have picked so far although not the wildflowers variety. I even dried some which turned out great, now what to do with them.

15.01.2022 Got allot of hollow logs so i decided to turn them into plant pots. I used plastic bottle tops and milk bottles melted them to form a base, then sealed the log with a water proofing membrane. Painted the outside, put in some plants and i think they turned out pretty good.

14.01.2022 Another great weekend away. Who would have thought mid summer could be so enjoyable in the bush. Horse flies keep us on our toes the first day then they seemed to pieter off leaving us with the bush flies and cicadas. Starry nights, pleasant days, couple of fish for the kids, flowers to keep in the good books and beer. Thats what i'm talking about.

13.01.2022 Been playing with some pigments. Amazed it turned out like did, still have another coat to go so should finish up real nice.

13.01.2022 Took some doing but ended up pretty good. Not sure whether to paint or oil this timber. Bull / She Oak is bloody hard timber but the pattern on the outside is totally different from any other. May put a bigger top on it but will have to go find a bigger tree first. It does hold 2 glasses but you have to be way too careful. Maybe a bigger top, need room for cheese n chips anyway.

12.01.2022 Took some work getting these big ones onto the trailer. Need to wait till i get a bigger bar for the chainsaw as they are 800mm across, my bar is only 600 minus another 100mm you lose when it is in the jig. Plenty of time they aren't going anywhere

12.01.2022 Meanwhile 5 hours later a very nice result. The sunlight really brings out the colours. Between the borers and bumble bees they love the soft outer layers. I thought i had a pair of bumble bees making their home in here but when i chipped away over a dozen flew out. Not very happy either i might add .!. Felt bad i just destroyed their home so i put another piece back for them. The first photo was taken inside the others were in the sunlight.

11.01.2022 I want one. Must write a note to Santa. So easy to use once the setup is complete. A huge thank you to Russell for being so patient with me. We are both learning and made a few little errors but nothing a planer, router or a bit of epoxy won't fix. All about 2400x580 x various thickness. So much easier than a chainsaw. Super happy with results.

07.01.2022 First dragon fruit flowers for the season. Hopefully get another bunch like we did last year 80 or so. Such a lovely flower shame it only lasts a couple of hours through the day

07.01.2022 Had another wonderful weekend away with the grandkids. Lake Tinaroo at it best. Gotta luv camping. Jacob learnt / had the courage to swim from the tube to the boat in the middle of the dam. Big step for him and also went in the tube by himself. Growing stronger and more confident each time we go. Wont be long and he will skiing. Stopped Lake Barrine and had a monster burger for lunch on the way home. Even got some tree hugging in, teaching the kids how to do it lol.

06.01.2022 Nice crop of home grown dragon fruit with heaps more to come. Some big logs that will need a serious blade to get through them, my next project.

04.01.2022 Its always good to see the difference a bit of paint/oil can make to the piece. This one i call Elvis. I think the back side has more character than the bowl itself.

04.01.2022 Sue has put this tray to good use. Xmas decorations fill it nicely

01.01.2022 Ha these kind folk just made me a cover song
