Repost from @lift_dietetics In the nutrition world, it's pretty common to hear that "there's no point eating more than 20 to 25g of protein in one sitting". While there is evidence to support that 25g of protein elicits a maximal muscle protein synthesis response, there is also quite a lot of evidence showing that higher intakes may also be beneficial. ... There are also practical considerations, such as in weight-loss where high protein intake can help maintain lean muscle mass, or with high bodyweight exercising individuals (ie powerlifters, bodybuilders, casual resistance-trained exercisers, and many contact sport athletes). Commonly 1.4 to 2.2g of protein per kg of body weight are recommended for resistance training individuals. At 2g/kg, someone who weighs 90kg would need 180g per day. If this was split into 20 to 25g doses, the person would need to be eating protein on 7 to 9 different occasions throughout the day. This becomes impractical, and larger intakes would be required to consume the target quantity. Protein consumed in large amounts can also still be used by the body to provide energy, and also to contribute to the body's 'amino acid pool' for the synthesis of other types of body protein. It isn't simply "pee'd out" or otherwise excreted once you eat more than the magical 25 grams. 15.01.2022 Hydration Tips from @lift_dietetics. Need some dietary help? Ask in club how to book in with Tyler or visit his Instagram account. Hydration does not need to be overly complex. Basic rules like 'drink to thirst', and replace fluids after exercise usually cover most circumstances Daily, most people will average a minimum of around 1.6L of 'Obligatory Water Loss' (minimum sweat loss 100mL, faecal loss 200mL, minimum urine to excrete solutes 500mL, insensible loss ie resp...iration, skin, etc: 800mL) General guidelines are to drink at around 2 - 2.5L of water per day to cover these losses However, in a high performance or heavy training setting, as little as 2% dehydration can impair performance. Inadequate rehydration in one session can carry performance losses into subsequent sessions. This is where a more targeted approach to hydration can be applied During competition, it is also not always possible to match sweat losses with fluid intake, and a hydration plan might be appropriate. Rehydration after the event in these circumstances is also of high importance The human body can not store excess water, so there is no use trying to 'over-hydrate'! If you’re looking to lose weight or tone up for summer, the obvious thing to start doing is some form of cardio but we’ve got a better idea. The science is simple: HIIT beats the pants off just running on the treadmill or aimlessly cycling for an hour! It’s efficient because it gets your heart racing, followed by a short rest period. ... He has just achieved a 100KG weight loss I first met Matt a few years ago in the old Camp Hill club and over the years I have seen how hard he has worked through struggles, plateaus and then the covid close down.
