25.01.2022 Are you a Bonner resident looking to give back to your local community this Christmas? The 2020 Ross Vasta Christmas Appeal has partnered with national online... charity GIVIT to provide much needed support to families in Bonner. 2020 has been a year like no other with the global coronavirus pandemic impacting on hardworking families. The Ross Vasta Christmas Appeal is all about loving local. 100% of donated funds received by GIVIT for this appeal will be used to purchase gift cards and vouchers from local Bonner businesses. These will then be given to organisations and charities in the area supporting local families in need. This Christmas think local and help support those doing it tough.

25.01.2022 The Camp Hill zoning amendment is critical to protecting the character of Camp Hill. You can have your say by making a submission to council by this Sunday. Det...ails on how to make a submission are here: https://tinyurl.com/yybavmgd The amendment will change the zone for an area of Camp Hill which includes Watson St, Halland Tce, Wiles St, Dorothy Ln, Annie St, Dorothy St, Glanosmond Ave, Pampling St, Bruce St, Henderson St, Lewis St and Donald St from Low-medium density residential (2 or 3 storey mix zone precinct) to Character residential (Character zone precinct) or Low density residential. Only this pocket of streets remains vulnerable to large multiple dwelling developments. With Council unable or unwilling to reject non-compliant developments, the only way to ensure Camp Hill retains the character it is known for is to support the rezoning by making a submission to Council. For more information on the proposed changes, see the council website: https://tinyurl.com/yybavmgd

24.01.2022 Swooping season has begun and today I unveiled a list of swooping hotspots, with more than 900 complaints made to Council so far this year. While getting swoope...d can be frightening, the birds are just doing what any parent would - trying to protect their young - and there are simple precautions you can take to avoid becoming the target of avian warfare: Travel in a group. Most birds only swoop individuals. Do not panic and run, as this only encourages a swooping bird to continue its attack. Wear a hat or hold a stick or umbrella over your head to keep a swooping bird at a safe distance. Cyclists should dismount and walk away from the swooping zone. Avoid the swoop area during breeding season.

24.01.2022 Only a week to school holidays. Looking for things to do.

23.01.2022 An interesting article for those that have children about to enter the ‘school system’. Try to nurturing the 5 habits of mind and not expect perfection, instead encourage a growth mindset.

21.01.2022 While on holidays, allow your children to practise risk taking.

21.01.2022 A big thank you to all the parents who have taken their kids to get a COVID-19 test recently. I know it can be a struggle. Its sometimes hard for young kids to... understand why things have changed. Thats why Children's Health Queensland have created this great little book called Birdie and the Virus. It helps kids understand what this virus is about and what we are all doing to keep them safe. The Birdie and the Virus storybook is available for download or as an animated video and sing-along: https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au//natur/storybooks/

21.01.2022 We get this question a lot, especially following the requirement for people to wear face masks in other parts of the country. Face masks can be a useful measur...e to help control sustained community transmission. Sustained community transmission is when we have multiple cases of locally acquired COVID-19 where contact tracing and testing is unable to identify how the person was infected. At the moment, there is no evidence to suggest that Queensland has any sustained community transmission. If you live in the greater region of Brisbane, a face mask might be suitable if: You are in a situation where social distancing cannot be maintained, i.e. public transport or a busy shopping centre If your GP has told you to wear one If you are caring for someone who has COVID-19 If you are attending a GP clinic, hospital or ED If you are sick and getting a COVID-19 test Face masks alone will not protect you from COVID-19. It is also vital that other COVID safe practices are followed, including: Washing hands often and thoroughly Maintaining a social distancing Covering coughs or sneezes Staying at home if unwell Getting tested if you're showing any signs of COVID-19.

20.01.2022 Starting school is an important event in the lives of children and their families. Children coming to school for the first time often have lots of questions and wonderings about what Prep will really be like. Check with your local school about enrolment and transition for 2021 and make sure your questions get answered.

18.01.2022 Do you want your child to attend a kindy program? What do you need to do? You need to put their name on a waiting list. Time flies past too quickly and before you know it your child is due to go to kindy the follow year. Dont delay! Places are limited and our program fills up quickly. (To get your preferred program you should have their name down before they turn 2). Oh, and dont forget about your younger children. 18.01.2022 We were very excited to welcome Ian from A Green Soul Native Bees, our native beekeeper to kindy. We have been fascinated with our native stingless bees throughout the year and have enjoyed observing them. We know that bees are very important for pollination and without them, we would have no fruit and vegetables to eat. Ian visited to split our hive, which has become too big. Our hive now has 5000 "Tetragonula Carbonaria" native bees, which only live in Australia. We asked ...lots of questions and learnt that the bees; don't sting, live up to 100 days, are 70% girls because they do all the work. The bees have different jobs; workers, cleaners and drones as well as the queen bee which lays eggs and can't fly. There are also princess bees who are chosen to be a queen when Ian splits the hive and a new nest is made. We enjoyed tasting the honey (called 'Sugarbag') which had a citrus tang to it. The honey was used by traditional Aboriginals for medicine and ointment for sores. The bees only make 2 jars of honey each year so it is very special. We laughed when the bees buzzed all around us! The bees like warm weather, above 18 degrees. When it's too cold, they huddle together in the hive. Ian taught us that they use GPS to know where they are going and that they will visit flowers up to 800 metres away from kindy. The bees carry the pollen on their legs (pollen pants) back to the nest for the babies to eat. The pollen is stored at the front of the nest and the honey at the back. We look forward to caring for our bees and watching them do their important job. #nativestinglessbees #sugarbaghoney #hivesplitting A Green Soul

13.01.2022 D E A R // Parents, We love them too. We know it’s taken you mountains of strength to lift your heavy feet to walk away from your baby while you leave them in o...ur classroom. To thrust them into this new world of cohorts and competition, a world you feel they will have to navigate themselves without you beside them. But, please know, they won’t be alone, they are with us. We love them too. From their very first day, beaming with pride in their freshly ironed uniform, we fall a little bit in love with their wide eyed excitement and their timid, sweet charm, their need to tell us all about their family holiday to the coast and their subtle nod to the squeaky new shoes on their feet. Then as the weeks roll by, we fall a lot in love with their cheeky sense of humour and how they stutter when they get excited. We grow in awe of their gentleness to others and their wishes to make big changes with such small feet. We love them too. We get to know when they need their puffer, when they are about to burst into tears, when they need just a second longer to get their thoughts out. We hug them in tight when they are sad, laugh along side them then they make a mistake, gloat with them when they nail a new skill and push them that bit harder when they aren’t believing in themselves. We love them too. We promise to keep them happy and safe, to build them up when they feel like they aren’t good enough, encourage them when we know they can do it and teach them all the new things. But, please know, while we love them too, you will always be their number one. You are the ones they write about in their story books, the ones they paint pictures of, the ones they role play during free time. You are the ones they pray for in prayer time, the ones they talk about with their new friends and the ones they are counting down to see at 3pm. So, trust us to guide, support and educate your babies and trust us to love them too. Love teachers from all over the world. J x

11.01.2022 Kindy countdown is on This time next week, we will be welcoming our new and returning kindy friends through our doors! This week is a great chance for childre...n to practise opening and closing their lunch box/containers and drink bottles. Maybe you can use them at home to eat lunch before kindy begins? It is also helpful to talk with your child about your kindy morning routine, and practise this if possible Starting kindy is exciting, but it's ok for little people (and parents) to feel nervous! Our C&K teachers and educators are here to help make the first day and weeks of kindy enjoyable and stress-free There is still time to enrol for kindy in 2021, for more info visit > candk.asn.au/kindergarten #LoveCandK #LearningThroughPlay #KindyCountdown #Kindy2021

10.01.2022 In the lead-up to the Council elections this year, there was a lot of concern about how to vote safely. Which is why we've introduced more options for people to... cast their vote for the 31 October State election. We'll have more of an election "period" rather than election "day". Options will include extended hours for prepoll voting, voting on the day, and telephone voting for eligible voters. However the Electoral Commission is also opening early to process postal vote applications - from next Monday 14 September in fact! Watching this video will help you find out more!

09.01.2022 School holiday ideas.

08.01.2022 BREAKING: Queenslands border zone will expand from 1am on Thursday, October 1 to include Byron, Ballina, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Glen Innes council areas.... Border residents can apply for a border pass and travel around Queensland for any purpose, and Queenslanders can travel to those places as well. Its an important step in supporting border communities and ensuring Queenslands economy rebounds not the virus. Our strong borders have kept Queenslanders safe and allowed us to keep our economy going, businesses open and people working. Thanks to Queenslands strong health response and falling numbers of the virus, we can now take a gradual approach to easing these restrictions. #qldjobs #covid19au

07.01.2022 Did you know that the arts make us happier? And that creative activity helps build resilience and self-esteem in children and young people? Make time over th...e school holidays (and every week) to get creative with your kids. Try these ideas: Draw, paint and create the value of what you produce is in the process, not the outcome. Colouring outside the lines is fun! Sing loud and often. Singing increases energy and happiness by raising the level of oxytocin, also known as the love hormone. Visit an art gallery or museum. Most public galleries have free workshops and programs for every age group - and don't forget the online options. Listen to music together and dance like no-one is watching. #TuesdayTips #ArtsInHealth #SelfCare #wellbeing
