23.01.2022 Sisters of Charity Foundation Award a $15,000 Grant to Can Assist Cootamundra - Combating the Impact of COVID-19 on Fundraising Income. After more than 180 ye...ars in Australia, the Sisters of Charity continue in their work of restoring hope and providing meaningful assistance to those in need. Through Can Assist, the Sisters will be helping those families in Cootamundra and surrounding towns who are experiencing financial barriers to cancer treatment. Without Can Assist many people would face overwhelming bills that they could not afford. Di Jamieson, current recipient, Cootamundra. "This grant will go straight back into the community and to those who need it. Eva Larson, McGrath Breast Care Nurse, Young Health Service. 20.01.2022 Cancer places an unmeasurable burden on patients, their families and friends and can be particularly difficult for people from regional and rural areas who are ...often faced with the added challenges of access to cancer treatment and care. Can Assist provides accommodation, financial assistance and practical support to people from rural and regional areas to ensure that country people are given the same opportunities and treatment choices as those who live in city centres, and I was pleased to help the team from Can Assist Hay Branch with a local Volunteer Grant. World Cancer Day serves as an important reminder to talk to your healthcare provider to check if you are due or overdue for screenings. Please visit cancerscreening.gov.au for information about national cancer screening programs in your local area.

20.01.2022 The patient phone has been disconnected due to sim issues and is currently being fixed. Apologies if you have tried to contact us, but feel free to send a message via Facebook or [email protected] if you need assistance.

18.01.2022 A big shout out to Sue and Ed Vitucci on their last day at South Hay Hotel. We will always remember their generosity and contribution to the branch in so many ways, over many years. Cheers to them from us, and all the best

14.01.2022 We’d like to let everyone know that we will be ceasing catering services until further notice. The decision was made at our annual meeting on Saturday and this financial year we will instead focus on building our membership base. The priority role to fill is Secretary, to work alongside 2020-21 President/Treasurer, Marg Booth. Key responsibilities include meeting minutes (three monthly) and minimal correspondence, using existing templates. We are seeking someone with access ...to a PC and internet, but all reasonable related office expenses will be reimbursed. If you are interested in this role, or to become a general member please email [email protected] or call Bec Bunyan on 0424 248 664.

10.01.2022 What a fun time we had for Hay Mardi Gras!

10.01.2022 Branch annual meeting will be held next Saturday 22nd at 9.30am, Community Building.

10.01.2022 As of 1st August we have decided to trial catering again, albeit with challenging COVID government regulations in place. As always, our ability to do this relies on the availability of volunteers, and unfortunately we aren't able to cater for every event we are asked to do. As a cancer charity our priority is to provide financial support to our clients and catering has always been a secondary service offered to raise some nominal funds for the branch. We would love to see ne...w people volunteering for the branch which may allow us to cater for more events as they arise. The hardworking members of our branch do the very best they can with the best intentions, and we thank all of our wonderful supporters in Hay.

09.01.2022 Congratulations to our hardworking patient liaison officer, Sandra, and catering manager, Tara, nominated for NSW Volunteer of the Year awards

06.01.2022 This is incredible, thank you Reg!

05.01.2022 We would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to the family of Garry May. He was awarded lifetime member status through his incredible efforts to selflessly raise funds with his infamous head shaves. He was a generous man in many ways and his presence within our branch will be missed greatly.

05.01.2022 Can Assist is here for you during this very soggy time and every time.
