25.01.2022 Some images from today's #kidsoffnauru Rally at Parliament House in Canberra. . .

24.01.2022 I am always delighted to be invited to have a look at local people promoting local things (and often making life easier or lovelier for the rest of us). I had been invited to see inside Pop CBR when it opened in the Nishi Building in New Acton, but life intervened and I only managed to get there yesterday. Gotta say I was pleased I did - it is an Aladdin's Cave of stuff produced in the Capital Region. I managed to sort out a lot of my outstanding Xmas shopping really qui...ckly and pleasantly. There is a broad range of things from tea, alcohol, chocolate and jerky to jewellery, soaps, ceramics and soft furnishings. If you are in full Xmas panic mode, Pop CBR might just be the saviour you are looking for - they are open 10-6 until 23 December. I am pretty sure I will be giving myself a bottle of Blood Orange Gin because . . . New Year!

22.01.2022 Inspired by So Fine, at the National Portrait Gallery, this dance performance embodies the strength and courage women have shown in Australian history. Presented by QL2 Dance.

21.01.2022 Micro/Macro Exhibition - Exhibition is on at CSIRO Discovery at Black Mountain, North-science Road Acton and runs until Friday 26 October. Micro/Macro is a collaboration between CSIRO’s Australian National Insect Collection and the ANU’s School of Art & Design. Art students have only four hours in which to respond to the insects in the collection. Rather than replicating the specimens in detail, the students are encouraged to consider scale, patterns, colour and form as a creative exercise. .

21.01.2022 Jugger! This weekend has Canberra hosting teams for the Canberra Cup. It is a stylised battle, in some ways as subtle as a tea ceremony and has its roots in a cult movie 'Salute to the Jugger' . I am bemused it doesn't have a larger audience - it is enormously entertaining to watch.

20.01.2022 Canberra Burns Club Highland Gathering 2018

19.01.2022 I am trying to work out where in my house I can fit a Chaise Longue - the one in Bell Shakespeare Company's The Miser is almost the star of the show - as it glows a rich velvety turquoise against the mellow gold of the wall., being moved, jumped on climbed over and sat on. The Miser revolves around the efforts of Harpagon's two children to marry their secret, penniless loves and separate the old Mister from the money he jealously guards. Harpagon has other plans. He wants hi...s children married off to rich geriatrics. And he has, unwittingly, set his sights on his son's young love Mariane topping his meanness with a layer of vanity. Add to that conniving servants including a gender-swapped Valere with whom Elise is in love (or lust) the stage is set for misunderstandings, manoeuvrings and mayhem. It is very funny and on at the Canberra Theatre Centre until 20 April 2019

17.01.2022 Fashfest 2018 at the National Gallery of Australia featuring designs by Haja Gala Couture, Megan Cannings Designs and Charly Thorn Designs. How impressed am I at the models' capacity to manage frocks like these, while on an escalator and still looking gorgeous! #Canberra

17.01.2022 National Endangered Skills and Trades Show. An amazing opportunity to meet a variety of heritage traders from around the country. Watch demonstrations of lacemaking, calligraphy and illumination, bookbinding, printmaking, blacksmithing, taxidermy, and wooden boat building and learn about the importance of heritage skills and the need to train the next generation. This event is intended to lobby and raise awareness of the scarcity of practitioners in these occupations and t...o ensure their continued practice and survival through the re-establishment of trade training. 16.01.2022 I was delighted to be able to see a final rehearsal of Alice Birch's 'Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again,' Again, which opens tonight at The Street Theatre. I must say I was not expecting such powerful performances in a play so well suited to our current environment - it is compelling, intense and shocking. Everyone concerned should be very proud of the production. 'Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again' is award-winning playwright Alice Birch’s explosive detonation of language on sta...ge is taken on by Canberra’s next generation of actors in director Karla Conway’s trademark physical style. Damian Baudin, Bronte Forrester, Ash Hamilton-Smith, Hiyab Kerr, Hayden Splitt, and Anneka van der Velde, members of the Street Theatre's The Street’s pre-professional pilot program in 2018, were preparing to show us what is possible when creative practice is supported with a pathway to the stage. The Street Company member Daniel Berthon is assisting the director and taking on See more

13.01.2022 A wonderful day at the @italian.embassy.canberra learning about the Mediterranean Diet and being tempted with some spectacular examples of what is possible by Chef Matteo Vigotti. This is part of a week-long celebration of The Italian Way of Living. Thanks particularly to the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Australia inc. for the invitation #vivereallitaliana

12.01.2022 Photos taken at a media call for Finucane & Smith’s Dance Hall at the Canberra Theatre Centre. Dance Hall is the latest Finucane & Smith spectacle, starring the inimitable World Celebrated performance artiste Moira Finucane, ‘raised by angels’ incandescent torch singer Mama Alto; world famous multi-crowned Queen of Burlesque Imogen Kelly; sultry songstress Willow Sizer; dark Goddess of butoh Yumi Umiumare and featuring Sexy salsa with Paul Cordeiro, and seriously dangerous aerials with Rockie Stone.

10.01.2022 I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening of 'Love and Desire: Pre-Raphaelite Masterpieces from the Tate' which will be at the National Gallery of Australia until 28 April 2019. The Exhibition is as lush and overblown as anyone could wish for.

09.01.2022 They say that if you see Selkies, you inevitably fall in love. I was invited to spend a bit of time with Mermaid Ninka Siren Luna of @trueselkiesisters and volunteer mermaid Amanda after they had had an afternoon of pampering with @kpmakeupartistryaustralia . I am besotted! Do contact them if you would like to meet a Mermaid.

09.01.2022 Yesterday was certainly a day for being out on the wiley, windy moors for the Canberra Chapter of the Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever. Held over the last 3 years with the proceeds going to support the Work of the Domestic Violence Crisis Service ACT (DVCSACT).

07.01.2022 Some images from the PANDSI Cake-off 2019 held at the #hyattcanberra on Sunday afternoon. The cakes were auctioned, but you can support PANDSI at: https://www.gofundme.com/cake-off-2019.

07.01.2022 More than 2500 dogs were showcased at the EPIC Advance Dog Sports Extravaganza at Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC) this weekend just past. There were Conformation, Agility, Flyball and Obedience Events. 05.01.2022 Travelling through history that never was. Over the weekend we attended the Goulburn Historic Waterworks hosting its annual Steampunk Victoriana Fair. What a brilliant event and at a perfect location. I must say the Steampunk Folk know how to stage an event.

05.01.2022 Went to an after-hours show of Cook and the Pacific, the Beauty Rich and Rare sound and light show and a brief wander around the 1st-floor balcony of the National Library of Australia.

04.01.2022 Christopher Samuel Carroll, Stefanie Lekkas, Ruth Pielor, and Dylan Van Den Berg in rehearsal for Kafka's Metamorphosis under the direction of Adam Broinowski. Metamorphosis is on at The Street Theatre 17-31 August 2019 I am looking forward to seeing this production if only to discover what all the cabbages are for . . .

03.01.2022 We had a lovely visit to Tatum Hills Farm, Bywong yesterday, to feed the orphaned baby goats. The family - @MeandMowSoap - are running some open evenings (through https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/come-feed-our-baby-goats-ti? ) to cover the vet bills for their beloved LillyPilly (the mama goat who didn't make it). You get to play with the kids, milk a goat and then feed them. (it isn't mentioned, but you get to spend some time with the farm llamas, watch the kangaroos, try to spot the local wombat and get escorted around by the peacock, who seems to be in charge). The animals are used to children and so it makes for a lovely evening activity. We were treated to a stunning sunset and double rainbow on the way home too!

02.01.2022 Pictures from The Illusionists, on at the Canberra Theatre Centre until 16 December 2018. Jonathon Goodwin, Tara Swift, Kevin James, Jinger Leigh and Mark Kalin.
