In Australia, 4...0% of cars are written off by car insurers. Many of these cars are sold by the insurer through auction - BE AWARE!! In Australia, the estimate is more than a quote. It is a blueprint to bring the car back to pre-accident condition & vehicle manufacturer specifications. The "Estimate" is the Repairs IP & the repairer may have a financial interest in the dispute the insurer may have with a consumer (afca). So when the repairer is requested by a car insurer to prepare a detailed estimate of repair costs to reinstate the vehicle; & when the car is an "economic" write off, determined solely by the insurer, the repairer should be paid a pre determined amount for preparing this exceptional estimate request. It's only fair! Also, the consumer should also be fairly cash settled & told how much the vehicle sold for at auction. That's only fair too. In Australia car insurer PDS's are less supportive of consumer choice. Insurer's repair authorities may fail fair contracts legislation. Be wary of insurers pushing their preferred repairer... do your homework.
