24.01.2022 Corin Classic Update Info on volunteers, RDing, and racing below... Volunteers ... Thank you James Jordan for stepping in and volunteering to Race Direct again at this Sunday's Corin Classic. This is James's 4th time Race Directing this winter season, and second year in a row race directing the Corin Classic. This means that all volunteer roles for this weekend are now filled. Thanks again to the dedicated team of Commissaires and volunteers for stepping up and supporting the race. We've named names on the EntryBoss listing. Future Race Directors We need more club members to step up and help with the Race Director role. We still need Race Directors and volunteers for the ACT iTT Camps and all upcoming winter road events. If you'd like to get some experience Race Directing please get in touch and we can let you know what's involved. You can volunteer as an assistant Race Director this weekend if you'd like to get some hands-on experience, too. Remember, Race Directors don't do it all by themselves. They get lots of behind the scenes support from the committee and other experienced club members. Tandem Cycling Come and Try Fitability supports people with visual impairment to ride on tandem bikes. This is an opportunity for confident riders to trial riding at the front of a tandem bike, or people with a disability to try riding at the back.... 15.01.2022 16 sleeps til Crits!!! Todays update focuses on entries, volunteering and prizemoney, with major changes to these this season. The information below is a brief summary of the information published on the Crits page on our website. https://www.canberracyclingclub.org.au//summer-criteriums/ Firstly, entries. All entries will be made through Entryboss. There will be no entries made at the track at the time of the race. The cut off for online entries will be at 3pm on the day o...f the race to give time to organise start sheets and entry details. You may scratch at any time before 3 and your entry will be reimbursed electronically. Entry fees will remain at $10 per race, but a season pass of $100 will be available to any riders that volunteer for two or more race sessions. Teams may use their nominated volunteer session to go towards a season pass for the team members that volunteer. The volunteer registration form will be made public within the next week. Without a series sponsor, the cost of running criteriums will be covered by entries alone, which means there has been a major change to the amount of money on offer for weekly races. Special races may give opportunity to deliver higher dividends, but weekly races need to be sustainable. The exact details of prizemoney amounts will be published within the next week. Furthermore, as cash will no longer be changing hands on a weekly basis through entries, payment of prize money will be made twice per season via electronic transfer. Bank details will be requested once the season begins. This is obviously more complex than our previous system, but new circumstances require new procedures. Please bear in mind that all systems such as these are maintained by volunteers who will give up their time to make it work. Stay posted for updates this week including the Season Calendar and Prize Money table. In the meantime, best get those neuromuscular adaptations in hand.

13.01.2022 Scam alert! Keep your eyes peeled for events like the one in the image. If it looks like one of our local cycling events, but *not* hosted by CCC, VCC, or CACT then it's a scam. You can tell the one in the image is a scam because it's hosted by "2020 ACT Road Championship". ... And as much as we'd like to be able to bring you live streaming coverage of the event we're not quite there yet. These keep popping up so watch out for them and report them as scams using facebook's 'report' feature.

11.01.2022 CRITS ARE COMING!!! 22 days to go! Team entries closed last week and are being entered in the system. The club web page has been updated with all the new relevant information ready for you to peruse at your leisure. There are a number of changes, so you should check it out to become familiar with it. The volunteer registration system is being finalised and the points and prize structure have been set. We'll be releasing more info on these as the first race draws closer, but t...oday it is time to talk about points. We have overhauled the points system to try and make it fairer and more consistent week to week. The new system acknowledges effort and consistency and encourages all riders to do their best to finish. A race win will give you 20 points, with each place in the top ten getting two points less than the position above them and all finishers outside of the top ten receiving 2 points towards their season tally. For example, in a race of 10 or more, if you are second, you receive 18 points. 3rd receives 16 points, etc down to 9th. A tenth placing will receive 3 points, with all finishers outside top ten receiving 2 points. If there are less than 10 people in a grade, the points are distributed by multiplying the number of racers by two to give maximum points, with every position thereafter receiving 2 points less down to 3 points, with all riders after that scoring 2 points for finishing. Sadly, conditions have deteriorated significantly since we optimistically made that bold claim, and it has been deemed as being too dangerous to proceed. There are pending road closures, sheets of water across the roads and increased traffic on the climb. In consultation with our commissaires, the committee made the call late this afternoon. 09.01.2022 SPRING IS HERE!! That means Crits are imminent 6 weeks to go! We’ve been busy since last season overhauling some of the less successful systems in crits to try and bring a better, more engaging Crit season to you. While we can’t promise consistent weather or atmospheric improvements, we are looking to make crits run smoother and to give more incentive to race to more riders. We’ll be announcing changes on socials and on the website over the next few weeks. But first, lets t...alk teams. Historically, the burden of volunteering lay at the feet of registered teams and last year, the few teams that registered ended up covering a few nights each. In 20/21, teams will get the opportunity to nominate and lock in one single week to cover volunteer duties, and the commitment will count towards their volunteer tally. The weeks not covered by teams will be covered by club members (CCC/VCC/ANU) who choose to volunteer more on that soon. Teams will not do more than one night unless they choose to. 02.01.2022 What an epic battle! The Wheelrace delivered excitement in spades with different grades using different tactics to try and take the final win. In the end (and as a correction to the announced results in the livestream), Kirsten Lower in E grade held off Jay Vine in A grade with young Bailey Macdonald in D grade rounding out the top 3. Marko Torbarina in C grade held off Sam Coleman in B grade in the last 100m of the race. Congratulations to all that participated. Great to see so many CCC and VCC jerseys out there. Massive thanks to the commissaires, trainee commissaires and vollies who made today so awesome.
