25.01.2022 There’s a Zoo in our Poo
25.01.2022 This is for a few patients from yesterday Warren, as promised. I don’t normally recommend products, but I really liked this combination. I was hunting millet to make a high protein, whole grain cereal, and found this made for me! ... It’s suitable for #glutenfree and #vegan There is also a version with oats. No added sugar makes me happy. I made this yesterday with banana, cooked on the stove. It would also work as a Bircher muesli. The fibre feeds our microbiome that in turn helps us absorb nutrients. This will be suitable for some once SIBO is cleared. The protein helps us create those happy neurotransmitters, serotonin and dopamine amongst others. What’s your favourite fruit on your cereal #brookfarm
24.01.2022 After 21 years with diarrhea, Vanessa had a proper poo! All those with irritable bowel will get the excitement of this.. ... and it happened after only a few days on her personalised digestion drops. Yippee! ... Her SIBO test results were Off. The. Scale. Now we know what we're dealing with. Please share if there is anyone who could benefit from getting their guts back on track.
22.01.2022 So many people who have irritable bowel have deficient beneficial bacteria in their gut. I see this constantly in the gimap stool test results. It's such a helpful way to find out what's going on in the microbiome. Today I thought I'd put the spotlight on Akkermansia. ... It's a totally brilliant commensal bacteria. This means it gets on with and doesn't harm other friendly bacteria. So where do the grapes fit in? Well they contain polyphenols. So do green tea, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, red carrots, red lettuce, red quinoa. Are you noticing a theme here The bacteria helps these phyto-chemicals be absorbed easier by us, in turn they feed the Akkermansia colony. Yay! Then other bacteria make butyrate which is food for our gut cells. These guys are doing the big job of absorbing the digested nutrients for us. They also need to be protected from other bacterial mayhem by a mucous layer. Guess who makes this? Akkermansia. Yep, and this can help heal leaky gut. Winner

19.01.2022 Again the Gut Microbiome test reveals the cause of 10 years of suffering Fantastic Now the healing can begin.
16.01.2022 If there is bacterial overgrowth and disruption in the large or small intestine symptoms can occur with food. but... it may be the bacteria not the food that's the problem. If you want to find out for sure, get in touch so we can work it out and end the misery.
15.01.2022 Isn’t this fun? Did you know that gut bacteria directly influence our mood We have a complex array of nerve fibres in our gut wall that directly communicate with the brain. ... Up to 95% of serotonin is made by specific gut bacteria. So when there’s a lack in these bacteria and corresponding lack of serotonin, anxiety can increase. Serotonin is also involved in gut motility. Too fast and it’s loose stool, too slow and it’s constipation. Or both. This can happen with irritable bowel syndrome. The gut to brain connection at work. Studies are continuing on whether probiotics can help. In the meantime it’s worth making sure that gut health is optimised. If we need to find out more I like to use the gimap test. What’s the state of your Microbiome?
15.01.2022 TIP: Soaking chia seeds makes their fibre and omega 3’s more available to your gut Do this rather than just sprinkling them on top of breakfast. .. or let them soak into the smoothie for 10 minutes before blending. ... Our gut needs a wide variety of fibre to create bacterial diversity in our microbiome. The more diversity we have helps us create and maintain optimal health. This includes our mood, skin, immunity and energy. However, if we have a disrupted microbiome, and fibre makes us bloated, then GIMap or SIBO testing can help us find the cause. We see a LOT of depleted bacteria levels in #gimap testing. This can occur when people are on a low fibre diet for too long.
14.01.2022 Have you tried fresh chicory The root is used as a coffee alternative with dandelion root. Sometimes patients wonder if they're having a problem with fatty food. This can be a liver issue rather than a direct gut issue.... Chicory and dandelion are both wonderful tonics for the liver by promoting bile flow. This is vital to help us digest fats that we eat. Food as medicine for sure. I found this vibrant bunch at the market last weekend. Worth a try I thought! The fresh leaves are delicious in a salad and can be blanched or flung into a stir-fry. So can the root, just slice it up like celery. Chicory root is a great source of prebiotic fibre that is food for our gut bacteria. In turn it helps them feed our gut cells. Some of these nutrients include butyrate, acetate and proprionate. They help keep our gut healthy and are often seen as deficient when we do a #gimap microbiome test.

12.01.2022 How I feel after a decent poop For some of us it's a cause of celebration. Those daily happy poopers don't know how good they've got it, right?
11.01.2022 Look what I found at the Farmer's Market Red Amaranth is high in iron and can be cooked like spinach. Before I was diagnosed with SIBO I couldn't understand why my iron and zinc levels were so low,... ...when my diet was full of nutritious food. The trouble with the pesky bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine is, they consume these nutrients first. This is why it's worth testing to find out if SIBO is behind irritable bowel symptoms and persistent deficiencies. Then we can boot them out and get your energy, gut and life restored.
11.01.2022 The person who belongs to this test was SO sure he had candida. He was bloated, had itchy skin and rashes, some foods caused a lot of gas. He'd been on Dr Google a lot and wanted me to give him herbs to fix the candida. So I suggested we do the gimap test first to find out for sure what was going on in his microbiome. ... Guess what! It wasn't candida. The main issue was severely depleted beneficial bacteria causing his symptoms. This can occur from a history of antibiotics, stress and restricted eating. Now we are working on gradually introducing prebiotic and probiotic foods. Too much of a good thing will stir up his gut even more. He will need targeted probiotics for a while to help. If you're wondering whether you need testing, we can work it out.
09.01.2022 This simple breathing technique can reduce anxiety and depression in 8 weeks! It also has a positive impact on gut health. The gut-brain-gut connection is very powerful.
09.01.2022 Yay It makes my day when patients let me know how much better they're feeling. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh pair of eyes to take a thorough look. ... 05.01.2022 The gut talks to us! It let's us know if it's unhappy... but do we listen?... How do we find the cause of the disruption Is it food causing the gas and bloating... Or, is it digestion, bacterial disruption, leaky gut and a disrupted microbiome. Figuring it out and finding the cause is my passion. Come and join me in the 5 Day Gut Challenge next week (it's free by the way), click the link in the comments below.
03.01.2022 Are you a seasonal eater Yesterday it was lovely and warm, so I thought I'd vary my breakfast and have one of the smoothie recipes from my Happy Belly Recipe ebook. Delicious. But today we've had a cold snap, it's freezing and raining. So I wanted warm food. My shakshouka with an egg from my cousin's happy chooks hit the spot. ... If you're stuck in a boring routine of breakfast it's good to branch out and ask your body what it really wants What's your favourite breakfast at the moment
