23.01.2022 Thanks Mary Tulip for the great Sharpie photos from day 1 of the ACT Dinghy Champs. Going to be an incredible sight to see a nationals fleet of 40+ Australian Lightweight Sharpies on these waters in January 2021, hosted by the YMCA Canberra Sailing Club, so get organised for a boat or a good spectator spot!

21.01.2022 A quick reminder that the first warning signal for tonight's Twilight Race (proudly sponsored by Homebuyer's Inspections!) will be at 5.45pm due to the Buoyed Up charity dinner. Plenty of time for a quick rig after work, a couple of laps around the track, and then upstairs for a great evening! As always the race officer may choose to combine divisional starts. There will be no presentation in the sailor's cabin after the race.

21.01.2022 Just one week to go until the Capital Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd 2019 ACT Dinghy Championships! Entries are rolling in, and the forecast is looking ideal. On time entry closes at 7pm tomorrow night, so jump online this evening and register here: https://canberrayc.com/specevents.php

20.01.2022 What better way to get through a cold winter evening than looking back at the successes and achievements of our members, volunteers and sailors last season. Check out the 2019 2020 CYC Presentation Video Here:

16.01.2022 Wonderful to run into Chief of Air Force, Air Marshall Mel Hupfield, while chatting with Commodore Sue Hart of Canberra Yacht Club. Both doing great things for... others. Programs like Sailability (canberrayachtclub.com.au/sailability2.php) and SheSails are reasons to be proud. A beautiful afternoon on Lake Burley Griffin. See more

14.01.2022 Sometimes conditions make it really easy for a race officer to make a decision... RIP tree, all racing abandoned.

13.01.2022 A NSW/ACT Lifetime Achievement Award has been awarded to Terry Peek from Canberra Yacht Club In 1998 Terry Peek spearheaded the formation of Sailability ACT. Wi...th an initial donation from the Canberra Masonic Centre, facilitated by Terry, the group was able to purchase a large trailer holding twelve 2.3 Access boats, all their gear, a safety boat and other ancillary equipment. This was transported each week from its storage point to the YMCA Sailing Club, usually by Terry. Terry was the experienced sailor and spent most of his time encouraging participants to experience the joy of sailing. He organised training for sailors and volunteers, he encouraged sailors to extend themselves, he promoted opportunities for racing, as well as sailing for the fun of it Sailability ACT moved to the Wave Centre at Lake Tuggeranong in 2003, and was able to expand its fleet to include Access 303s (now called the Hansa 303s). He encouraged many organisations to sponsor the boats. He chaired the committee for many years. Terry encouraged sailors to participate in regattas around Australia (state and national regattas, Asia Pacific Games, Masters Games) and overseas. He organised a large group to travel to the Access World Regatta in Japan in 2002 and in Rutland England in 2010.Terry is a keen advocate for those who happen to have a disability. He is always adamant that if you want to go sailing, then having a disability won’t stop you! Terry has always supported sailors with an intellectual disability and was paramount in introducing sailing to the Special Olympic movement. He was the Head Coach for the first sailing team that went to the World Special Olympics Games in Shanghai in2007, and 4 years later in Athens. He continues to work tirelessly to promote sailing for people of all abilities. A keen and proficient sailor himself Terry has been involved in Sailability Australia, Access Sailing and Hansa Class since the first National Championships in 1998 on Lake Burley Griffin at the YMCA organised by Terry and Jackie Kay. The list of Terry’s involvements with the Hansa Class, Special Olympics, Sailability and now the Canberra Yacht Club is to extensive to list. In 2016 Sailability ACT was faced with the difficult choice between continuing their operations on Lake Tuggeranong or merging with the Canberra Yacht Club (CYC). Terry was initially a cautious advocate for the move to the CYC, but after some successful trial events, and a resoundingly positive reaction from both the members of Sailability ACT and the CYC, Canberra Yacht Club Sailability was formed. The combination of dedicated volunteers, facilities and community has seen this new partnership go from strength to strength. Terry continues to lead the charge on Sunday mornings at CYC Sailability, with his infectious enthusiasm for all things Sailing, and is an excellent ambassador for our sport. Terry is a tireless, passionate volunteer for sailors of all abilities and richly deserves to be win this Lifetime Achievement Award.

07.01.2022 A great day on the water yesterday for the annual Chief Minister's Regatta! Chief Minister Andrew Barr was in the CYC Race Tower as the official race starter, making sure all the boats got away on time. With 70 boats signed up, and well over 100 sailors on the water, it was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the lake after this tough year. The CYC thanks the ACT Government & Chief Minister Barr for their ongoing support of this regatta and Sailing in the ACT
