25.01.2022 Tim ‘the tool man’ took to the stage this week and hosted another wonderful meeting. Formal speeches were delivered by Arvene and Sayla who cut their teeth delivering ice breaker speeches. Sayla spoke about how events in her personal life had inspired her to take up new hobbies such as painting, swimming and public speaking. Arvene spoke about his upbringing in India and his desire to develop ‘soft skills’.... Congratulations Arvene and Sayla on completing your icebreaker speeches. We look forward to more speeches from both of you!! Table topics were delivered by I-Chang, Frank and Maki. Maki told everyone about her morning yoga ritual which has improved her health and flexibility. Our newest member I-Chang made his debut discussing China’s dominance as the world’s next superpower. Finally, the legendary Frank once again provided an incisive tonic by discussing how Hollywood films had distorted historical facts. He cited examples from films such as Mutiny on the Bounty and the Bridge on the River Kwai. Great tonics everyone!! Finally, Rashmi donned the Table Topics Master hat for the very first time and quizzed everyone on everything from their favourite Saturdays; to tough parenting; and, whether you’d rather give up alcohol or coffee!!! Well done everyone on another fantastic meeting!!!

25.01.2022 We had a fantastic meeting this week, with Tim as a Toastmaster. Tabletonics were NIvi, Rex and Anthony and formal speeches by Jackson and Nicholas. We had fun while listening to Tabletonics which performed in a different way discovered by Tabletonics master Josh. See you all in next week.

24.01.2022 We Canberra City Toastmasters club again had a wonderful meeting today. We welcome our new member Andre who gave his introduction to the club. Today Rex gave an interactive table tonic. The agenda was continued by our highly motivated speaker Frank who presented a 5-7 minutes speech on borrowing and debt by the government. Lincoln speech was based on a storytelling pattern. Thanks to Clint and Frank for evaluating today's prepared speech. The meeting was continued by Rex wi...th some interesting questions related to money and power. 24.01.2022 This week the very vivacious Mariana made her debut as Toastmaster and hosted another exciting meeting. Arvene, Tamai and Rosa entertained us with Table Tonics. Arvene spoke about his first bungee jumping experience in NZ while Tamai spoke about dealing with hostile work environments. Formal speeches were delivered by Tim and I-Chang. Tim enlightened everyone on his mentoring journey and the lessons he has learnt along the way. I-Chang completed his icebreaker speech by discu...ssing his fear of water and how he overcame it by learning how to swim in PNG!! Patrick hosted a lively Table Topics segment and peppered members with some of the ‘big’ questions: How has our PM performed? What’s the biggest challenge in the world today? and, What would make the world a better place? Finally, our President Kevin was General Evaluator and provide some valuable feedback to members. 23.01.2022 We had yet another fantastic meeting this week. Formal speeches were delivered by Lincoln and Clint. Lincoln entertained everyone with his competition-winning speech 'Fight or flight on Fred Flintstone's chook choking night' and received some valuable feedback from members. Clint outlined his rules for using social media effectively when running a business.... Table tonics were delivered by Sayla and Pat. Sayla argued that ‘jealousy does matter’ while Pat spoke about the impact of ocean breezes on the bush fires. The Table Topics session was highly entertaining with Arvene and Sangay sharing the role. Questions included - Is Gross Domestic Product more important than Gross Domestic Happiness? How would you spend a public holiday? and, Is the coronavirus a natural creation or a lab creation?? 23.01.2022 Hi everybody, hope your week has been good so far. We completed another informative meeting yesterday with Josh as the toastmaster. By listening to members’ great speeches, we learned about the importance of compassion for life and saving the world. With table topic questions prepared by Rex, we quickly reflected on personal experiences to make impromptu speeches. Last, with Ash’s general evaluation, we all got different insightful ideas to work on public speaking skills. Join us at our next meeting to share your valuable ideas and to learn together. Our meetings take place every Tuesday at 12:30 pm at Pilgrim House.

22.01.2022 What a wonderful meeting today (25/Aug/2020) with the most METICULOUS toastmaster Kevin Mathew! Table Tonics: 1) Alvis reminded us with the use of 'Me-time'. 2) Maki talked about her favourite musical 3) Rashmi K gave a book review on the 'Power of Habit' i.e., how habit can rule over our mind and 4) Sayla talked about how to choose a topic for a speech. Formal Prepared Speech: 1) Tim discussed the use and mis-use of drone in which he was purposely interrupted by the audience...s and he managed the noisy audiences quite tactfully with patience. 2) Josh showed up with his impromptu speech on mental health. He discussed how the feeling of shame and guilt leads us to vulnerability. Well done to both the speakers!!! And thanks to Mark for providing useful feedbacks to Tim. Josh enchanted us with his very light and easy table topics on different favourite things such as: walking/running, bus/light rail and smoothie/milk shake etc. Thanks to Anthony and Hang for lighting up the stage with a short discussion on their hobbies. Thanks to Josh(Speaker 2 and Table Topic Master) and Sayla(Tonic and General Evaluator) for taking over multiple roles in short notice. 22.01.2022 This week we welcomed back Patrick from holidays who hosted another entertaining meeting. Table Tonics were delivered by Anthony, Sangay and Kevin. Anthony spoke about one of his favourite holiday destinations - Bombala, while Sangay reflected on his journey through life and his objectives for the future. Kevin talked to us about one of the legends of Rock and Roll - Chuck Berry.... Formal speeches were delivered by Maki and Clint. Maki spoke about mentoring and being a protégé using examples from her toastmasters journey. Clint discussed his project management skills in relation to fundraising in the fitness industry. Joshua returned from leave and hosted a fun table topics session challenging everyone with questions about nostalgia, conspiracies and getting arrested!! Great work everyone. Hope to see you all next week when Clint will host a mini debate during the table topics session.



22.01.2022 Canberra City Toastmasters is going from strength to strength. Thanks a heap to Rex and Ash for giving such thought provoking icebreakers. Today was Mariana Marcano's last meeting for a few months. We'll miss your enthusiasm and energy, and we thank you sincerely for your hard work in our executive as our Vice President of Public Relations. We hope to see you soon as a guest!!

21.01.2022 This week the very genial Lincoln hosted a packed schedule. Our new member Arvene provided the word of the day - ‘SALUBRIOUS’. Table Tonic speeches were delivered by Tamai and Frank. Frank gave us his ‘views’ on the Bush Fire Recovery Commission and suggested the idea of having a four day week to boost productivity. Tamai gave us an impassioned speech about how her New Year resolutions were always inspired by the Bible!!... The Table Topics session was facilitated by Clint who had members debating some of the big issues: should social media have age restrictions; should we be eating breakfast cereals; should we have a four day week; and, should we continue to use coal as a source of energy. Formal speeches were delivered by Uday and Mariana. Mariana discussed the positive and negative impacts of China’s one child policy, while Uday spoke about how extroverts and introverts can relate really well to each other. Great speeches Uday and Mariana. Finally, congratulations to Sangay on being General Evaluator for the first time. Sangay delivered a thorough evaluation and provided some blunt advice to members! See you all next week for another great meeting.

Nilanthi did her ice-breaking speech giving a very important message that real-life learning is done through experience rather than university education. Another speech was done by I- Chang on the topic overcoming the shyness while public speaking. We also welcome our new member Christine and wish her best for her Toastmasters journey. 13.01.2022 This week we had a mesmerising meeting with Thuy Van M. Lum as the Toastmaster. Welcome back to Anthony with his hearty table tonic. Alvis delineated how he mastered english as a second language with his impressive body language. And, our expert speaker Josh presented a film review with his magnificent story telling skill. In the formal speech section, our new member Binod broke his ice by mentioning how he won the racial discrimination with his beautiful smile. I-Chang expl...ained different communication styles along with his own style. Wow to Mark and Tim for their very conscious and compassionate style of evaluations. Rashmi K made her debut as a table topic master with very insightful and light questions such as: 'Money, intelligence or luck?', 'What do you like the most about Australia' and 'What is the most miraculous thing of your life' etc. Thanks to Emma for being the Timer and Sayla for being the General Evaluator. 12.01.2022 Our third meeting for the year was hosted by our President Kevin, and was another successful meeting. The word of the day was ‘incandescent.’ Arvene, our newest member completed his first table tonic and spoke about his newly developed ‘handy man’ skills, which now seems to be in great demand!! Thuy Van and Uday also presented table tonics. Thuy Van spoke about her new pet ‘Harry’ while Uday spoke about yet another one of his social misadventures!!!!... Our Area Director Luka made an ‘official’ visit and discussed upcoming events and activities in the Monaro Division. Congratulations to Rashmi for completing her Ice Breaker speech. Rashmi spoke about growing up in India and her journey through motherhood. She also discussed her appreciation of the work life balance in Australia. Well done Rashmi, looking forward to more of your speeches. The ever flamboyant Frank was Table Topics Toastmaster and donned his political reporter’s hat, quizzing everyone about their political views!! Questions ranged from favourite politicians, climate change, the future of Taiwan and foreign policy in Bhutan. Thanks for the entertaining questions Frank. Great effort everyone. 08.01.2022 The theme this week was rousing speeches! Anthony gave us a guide to excellence in television, Leo told us about transforming failure and Nilanthi discussed the only 2 fears humans have: falling and loud noises. Josh and Tim both gave rousing speeches, filled with mythical beasts and drones. Clint as usual made the meeting fun and light, a great time all round!!

05.01.2022 We had a fantastic meeting this week. We congratulate Timothy Graham for completing his level 5 of Visionary Communication pathway . Along with this, Tim also received his participation award for the Evaluation contest at the area level and have secured first place in the international contest at the area level. Our area director David slater came to visit this Tuesday and presented the awards to Tim. Tim has made all of us proud and has set a great example for all Public speakers. Another special thing about this meeting was table topic delivered by Lincoln about a murder mystery set in ancient Egypt. Lincoln faked his death so he could out of being Pharaoh in the end. We look forward to many such successful meeting. See you all next week.

03.01.2022 Hi everybody, our team has completed another weekly meeting, and it was surprisingly experimental this time! With ‘No Fear Shakespeare’ as the theme, Kevin and Maurice used it to create an impromptu speech and to introduce Rex’s speech regarding his journey of seeking a meaningful life. In his prepared speech, Ash read through some inspiring poems with a beautiful vocal variety to see whether this would be a good way for presenting. With enthusiasm for music, our new guest, Amelia, will show us how she makes speeches by incorporating sound and images. Last, during Christine’s general evaluation, we had a good discussion about the use of hand scripts and body language. Please come and join our weekly meeting. 03.01.2022 Hi everybody, another great meeting was done yesterday! In yesterday’s meeting, Tim gave an inspiring and very performative speech. And he is a senior member of our club who is keen to share experiences and help members with public speaking questions. I-Chang used improving freestyle swimming to give a speech to learn how to incorporate intentional body language. Our previous president, Kevin, used very approachable questions to invite everyone (including new attendees) to talk on the stage. Well done! Looking forward to seeing you next Tuesday.

03.01.2022 So much fun this week! This week we had Mariana Marcano delivering a long book review: Becoming by Michelle Obama. She was "purposely" interrupted, but she managed pretty well the audiences. Well done! Rashmi enlightened us with educational information about the function and process of a vaccine. Very good!... 02.01.2022 The ever agreeable Josh was Toastmaster this week and hosted another entertaining meeting. Formal speeches were delivered by Prathiba and Pat. Prathiba discussed the different styles of leadership and management using her personal experiences. Pat spoke about his approach to planning family holidays and declared that ‘Failing to plan is planning to fail’!!... Clint and Sayla did table tonics. Sayla delivered an insightful tonic on the economic impact of the Corona virus, while Clint entertained everyone with his musings about the need for greater understanding between people. Mariana made her debut as Table Topics Master and covered some interesting topics including: the things we do differently to everyone else; our top three values; and, why we look up to celebrities! 02.01.2022 The sagacious Patrick hosted this week’s meeting in his typically calm and composed style!!! There were three table tonic speeches. Maki spoke about her love of cooking, while Sangay spoke about ‘night hunting’ in Bhutan, where young males creep into the bedrooms of their favourite females!!! Our newest member Rashmi K made her public speaking debut by talking about her desire to improve her public speaking and leadership skills. Formal speeches were delivered by Frank and Jo...sh. Josh entertained us with his different styles of leadership and provided examples from his personal experiences. Frank argued that common historical perceptions were often inaccurate and provided examples. Sayla made her debut as Table Topics Master and quizzed everyone with some thought provoking questions: What would you never give up? Destiny or hard work? Who do you secretly envy? Excellent effort everyone!! 01.01.2022 This week the lovely Maki hosted one of our biggest gatherings for the year!! Sanjay, Lincoln and Pat all delivered Table Tonics. Pat outlined his method for planning holidays in the most effective and efficient way, while Lincoln spoke about his love of riding motor bikes. Formal speeches were delivered by Rashmi and Josh. Rashmi spoke about her attempts at digital detox and its benefits, but stressed the importance of keeping the right balance. Josh delivered an extremely m...oving speech about supporting people with depression. Kevin was Table Topics Master and had everyone talking about exercise and fitness or the lack of it. Finally, the legendary Frank was in incendiary form and delivered another flamboyant general evaluation with some incisive observations!!! Great meeting everyone, see you all next week.

01.01.2022 Yayyy....we kicked off another very engaging meeting with today's wonderful Toastmaster Josh, greeting everyone with 'Happy Sand Day'. Table tonics: Clint presented how challenging he found impromptu speeches are at the beginning of his TM journey and how he overcame the fear of public speaking. Our new and promising member Binod emphasised the power of positivity in our daily life. The formal prepared speech section: 1) The new star Alvis broke his ice with a very humorous s...peech and 2) Tim enchanted us with his story of how he became a 'Tim the tool man'. Well done to both of the speakers!! Mark delighted us with his thoughtful table topic questions. Thanks to Thuy Van Mellor (evaluator of Alvis), Sayla (evaluator of Tim), Rex (timer) and Anthony (Grammarian). In the general evaluation section Tim mentioned some important points such as : 1. Making apology on the stage is not that important 2. Holding notes makes the audiences feel unattended 3. Repetition within the evaluation kills time 4. Tips for running a meeting as a Toastmaster Finally, in apology of President Dimitri's absence, Josh took over the role of Mr. President for 2 minutes ;) and encouraged everyone to participate in the club speech contest. Canberra City Toastmasters is the first club to run physical meetings after the COVID-19 restriction was lifted. ROCK ON!!!
