22.01.2022 BUSHFIRE UPDATE Some cooler weather has meant that fire conditions have eased in many areas. The Hume Highway is open and buses are running as usual. Some trains will be replaced by coaches.... You can find further information about fires here - https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-inf/major-fire-updates/mfu Traffic updates can also be found here - http://m.livetraffic.rta.nsw.gov.au/Default.aspx?r=REG_SOUTH The Kings Highway remains closed from Braidwood to Nelligen due to the Currowan Fire. The Braidwood Road is also closed, as is the Araluen Rd. You can reach the south coast through Cooma and Bega. There are still high levels of smoke haze in the ACT, but these are lower than previous days. Stay safe on the roads and keep up to date with the conditions.

21.01.2022 BUSHFIRE UPDATE There are now fires burning within the ACT. You can find more information at ACT Emergency Services Agency. The Orroral Valley Fire is at "Watch and Act" Level and burning in the Namadgi National Park. There is some smoke around Canberra, but not at the levels it has been at in recent weeks. You can get data on that from ACT Health. https://www.health.act.gov.au//monitoring-and-regulating-a... There are still many fires burning in NSW and hot conditions expected over the coming days. You can see further information on those fires here - https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-informat/major-fire-updates The local ABC radio ABC Canberra is another way to keep in touch. You can hear that on 666 AM signal. Please stay safe and avoid "going for a look" at the fires.

10.01.2022 BUSHFIRE UPDATE There has been extensive damage to the south coast and other areas around Canberra including the Snowy Mountains and the north of Victoria. The are currently no fires in Canberra, however there has been a high level of smoke haze and very low air quality.... Transport to and from Melbourne and Sydney has been running fine. All tourists have been ordered to evacuate from the south coast area between Nowra and the Victorian border. There are a number of zones in Victoria that are also being evacuated - mainly in the Gippsland and alpine areas. The Snowy Mountains area including Thredbo YHA and all of the national park have been evacuated. Many people are coming through Canberra from the coast. We are fully booked out for tonight. Some showgrounds are open to camping including Queanbeyan, Bungendore and Hall. There is a relief centre at Dickson College. A number of places in Canberra will be closed tomorrow including National Zoo & Aquarium Canberra and Visit AIS among others. Little in Canberra is doing a great job updating some of these closures. Tomorrow will be an extremely hot day (approx 42 degrees) and they are predicting worse fire conditions. If you are told to leave, leave. If you are in a safe place it is best not to travel tomorrow as fire conditions can change dramatically. Further information can be found at the NSW Rural Fire Service website or ACT Emergency Services Agency or by listening to your local ABC radio. Please stay safe and follow the instructions from the authorities.
