25.01.2022 Reads like a good summary to me

25.01.2022 "Who among the current crop of ACT politicians has a good record on ensuring that Canberra’s urban forests, its open spaces and streetscapes continue to be enhanced and maintained? The ACT Greens should be at the top of that list. Nope they turned brown ages ago (mix green with Labor red). They have shared government for almost a decade and are part of the problem. The ACT Greens must stand for something. Who knows but they can definitely no longer justify calling themselves the green party."

22.01.2022 Canberra Southern Cross Club launches ‘Job Saver’ Program to help those in need. The Canberra Southern Cross Club has launched a ‘Job Saver’ program to support ...its staff on international visas and thus ineligible for Job Keeper assistance. By doing so, the Club has been able to increase its support of the Vinnies Night Patrol, now providing over 500 meals per week to the service, assisting those most in need in our Canberra community. With its kitchens mostly idle, the Club hatched a plan. By providing work and an income stream for staff that would otherwise have no source of income, it would also enable the Club to provide greater assistance to the Vinnies Night Patrol service in this time of crisis. We have named our Club program ‘Job Saver’ and we’re delighted we’ve been able to help our own staff with meaningful work and a salary whilst providing the Vinnies Night Patrol service with these meals commented Ian Mackay, CEO of the Canberra Southern Cross Club. The program has been boosted by the support of the ACT Government’s Sustainability and Diversification Fund for Clubs in the ACT. One of the recipients of the Southern Cross Club’s Job Saver program is Janak Poudel. Originally from Nepal, Janak lives in Canberra and works for the Club as a Chef. Janak said, I was so thankful for the wonderful news. I feel so proud of our Club and this Job Saver program opportunity has made me feel so much better. I am grateful the Club is so understanding of our situation as I know whole world is going through tough time. Erin MacArthur, Director of Special Works at St. Vincent de Paul Society added, We’ve been fortunate to have the support of Canberra Southern Cross Club for many years, and grateful for this additional assistance through the provision of food for people accessing our Night Patrol vans. During this difficult period, it’s great to see an outcome that supports both those people employed at the Club as well as the people who turn to Vinnies for help every day. The Club has supported the Night Patrol for over 20 years. The provision of additional meals from the Club’s Woden kitchen commenced from Monday April 20 and will continue until further notice. The Club is also offering a takeaway and home delivery service at Woden, Tuggeranong, Jamison and Yacht Club. 19.01.2022 For years I’ve been saying that the combination of Labor/Greens policy in land release, rates and land tax and residential tenancies would always result in us h...aving the most expensive rents in the country. Labor and the Greens say that they’re looking after renters. They’re actually making life much tougher for renters. https://www.allhomes.com.au//cbr-canberra-house-and-unit/

17.01.2022 At least there's one Liberal having a go

17.01.2022 What Jon Stanhope was hoping to uncover through a freedom of information request were the details of the deal that was struck between the NCA and the ACT government. He received a 30-page document with about 23 pages completely blank, writes Canberra Matters columnist PAUL COSTIGAN.

14.01.2022 A big win for Canberra.

13.01.2022 Am appreciating the local election coverage by The RiotACT

12.01.2022 I’m not sure what’s more frustrating....that Labor keeps making hollow promises about the hospital, or that Canberrans actually believe them.

10.01.2022 A real charmer our Chief Minister

09.01.2022 IT seemed to me like a fair and balanced comment by Adam Shirley: "Canberra's hospital emergency departments seem to be the political headache that most needs treatment. On Thursday, Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith put up an extra $60 million for what she described as an exceptionally busy Christmas/New Year's period for the city's hospitals.... The ACT's healthcare system has long been compared unfavourably with those elsewhere in Australia, and the Barr Government will be anxious to show it is improving its hospitals, given the amount of time Labor has been in office. It has spent big on emergency rooms, nurse-led walk-in centres and elective surgery. While some areas have improved, results in others have been poor. The latest example, from Productivity Commission data, shows Canberra's urgent and semi-urgent emergency patients wait far longer than anyone else in Australia for treatment. Cultural and bullying problems have also plagued the ACT's hospitals. After several inquiries, industry groups, including the Australian Medical Association, now say the Government has appointed the right leaders and the cultural malaise is lifting. One would hope so, given how entrenched some of these problems were. An expansion of Calvary Hospital's emergency department is also under way, as well as an even bigger extension of Canberra Hospital, but these won't be ready for some time."

06.01.2022 "MANY residents who voted for the ACT Greens are disillusioned given how the partnership with ACT Labor has sidelined many planning, development, environmental, heritage and urban issues. The perception is that the Greens were to be silent on some issues so that leader Shane Rattenbury could occupy a government cabinet position. "

05.01.2022 The ACT Liberals certainly know to make it hard for anyone who is liberal to vote for them

04.01.2022 Praise where it is due. From the Canberra Times website: The ACT installed a large air tanker base at the Canberra Airport 18 months ago, allowing the aircraft to refill with retardant at Canberra Airport instead of having to make the longer flight to Sydney, Emergency Services minister Mick Gentleman said.

04.01.2022 The Kaleen Sports Club will not reopen. They warned that Labor and the Greens would destroy your local club....and they were right. There is a better way. The e...lection is in October. 02.01.2022 Mark Parton MLA wrote: Is it any surprise that just months out from an election, ACT Labor is dodging normal planning processes and bypassing community consultation. Ever since the secret Dickson land swap deal with the union bosses was first dreamt up, ACT Labor has been writing its own rules in this space to the detriment of the local community. This is a sad reflection of the ACT’s dysfunctional planning system. While the Canberra Liberals are supportive of the Common Ground in principle, we believe that the planning process should run its full course so that affected residents can have their say.

01.01.2022 Seems sensible enough to me
