25.01.2022 Year 10 boarder, Susannah writes: "The great thing about the Boarding House, and the wonderful staff who work within it, is the various activities organised to keep us busy and engaged. Ranging from Quidditch, bus runs to get ice cream or morning yoga. The staff work really hard to make the Boarding House feel like home and they do an amazing job." 14.01.2022 Since the advent of social distancing, we haven't had all that many student achievements to report...but that is changing! 14.01.2022 The Music Academy at Canberra Girls Grammar School is home to no less than nine choirs, giving students from Prep through to Year 12 the opportunity to explore their love of singing and performance. Expert instrumental tuition is also available for students who wish to take their talent to the next level. Under the guidance of Head of Choirs, Ms Sonia Connor, students like the 2021 Head Chorister, Tatyana Ludwig (Year 12) go back to basics, learning to return to their natural-born instincts to project their voices. In this conversation, we hear from both women as they talk about technique, favourite pieces of music and what it means to be an artist: http://bit.ly/cggssing

13.01.2022 All students in Years 3-6 had their say on 16 October, when they were asked to vote in a mock ACT election. During the week leading up to ACT election day, students were given the opportunity to investigate the parties and candidates standing for election in the electorate of Murrumbidgee, where CGGS is located. There was a real buzz around the school as students discovered the policy commitments made by each candidate and as they planned who was going to receive their vote. Read all about the activity and find out when results will be announced: http://bit.ly/cggsmockelection

13.01.2022 This morning, all Year 9 Science students headed to Yhuuramulum to undertake an ecology investigation as part of their assessment this semester. Four activities were planned: drawing a field map, identifying organisms in the area to draw food chains and webs, considering human impacts on the area, and undertaking a water bug survey with Water Watch. Students had a fantastic time completing all activities and learned about the effects of blue green algae first hand, as they ...completed a modified water bug survey owing to large amounts of the algae appearing overnight! I liked spending time with Water Watch and learning about water bugs and the Lake Burley Griffin ecosystem," said one student.

06.01.2022 Year 9 musician, Lara Buchanan, has recently uploaded her track 'Smoke' to triple j Unearthed High competition. In Lara’s words, she wrote the song in despair at the time of the Australian bushfires, but as 2020 has evolved it has become an anthem to global events and a tribute to those men and women who are working to make the world a safer, healthier and more equitable place. 04.01.2022 Year 5 classes were fortunate enough to be able to visit the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra early in Term 4. This excursion was an integral link with their International Baccalaureate Unit of Inquiry, ‘Where We Are in Place and Time’. The students were guided through the Australian Galleries and were able to view and appreciate the ‘Belonging - Stories of Australian Art’ collection. As part of Year 5 Visual Arts, the students inquire into how art and history are link...ed, and the role artists’ interpretations have in shaping a nation’s identity. The range of Australian artists viewed and discussed included Aboriginal painters such as Daniel Boyd, Betty Muffler, Shane Pickett and Christopher Pease as well as Australian Impressionists Arthur Streeton, Charles Condor and Tom Roberts. This excursion complemented the students’ art inquiry into an Australian artist of their choice and provided stimuli and incentive for their creative response once back in the Art room.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to Junior School teacher, Louise Burrows, who was part of the winning Canberra Royals Rugby Union team on the weekend, beating Uni Norths at the grand final. 03.01.2022 The first Senior School Chapel for 2021 was held on Tuesday, 9 February during the extended Tutor group period. Reverend Jenny was fabulous and brought the School together with a message of love and being kind to one another. She acted out a play narrated by the Chapel Captains, Jana Ang, Lauren Jaggers and Zali Knight, who also gave readings and said prayers, as well as assisting Reverend Jenny in giving communion. The students brought the service to a close with one of t...heir favourite hymns ‘Shine Jesus Shine’. It was a beautiful way to begin Week 2 and offered a time of reflection in a busy school day. We are looking forward to more of these. The Gabriel Singers supported all the musical quests of the service. One of the Chapel Captains, Jana Ang, shares her reasons for wanting to serve the School this year: Since I was young, I've always been inspired by my faith to spread positivity everywhere I go, Jana said. That being said, I'd love to encourage others to do the same; even if we have different beliefs, because even a little bit of hope goes a long way. As Chapel Captain, I'll strive to achieve this goal through the integration of multi-faith elements in Chapel, along with listening to further suggestions by the student body."
