13.01.2022 When your sex hormones are out of balance, your body tends to let you know. pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), period pain, tender breasts, headaches, hot flushes, i...nsomnia, constant heat, low mood, weight gainto name a few. The sensitive nature of sex hormones means they can act as a barometer of other processes in the body that might require attention and are a good reflection, not only of our reproductive health, but of overall wellbeing. The delicate dance of our sex hormones and stress hormones makes sex hormone imbalances one of the first signs our body will give us when the invisible load of our stress is getting too much. Yet they have become so common these days that many women pass these uncomfortable symptoms off as simply part of being a woman; partly because they feel at a loss about where to start to rebalance them and partly because it almost seems normal for women to suffer with their hormones. The suffering might be common, yet it does not have to be the case. The relationship between your stress and sex hormones can offer you insight into how youre really coping and how heavy your invisible load might really be. And for those of you who have a regular period, you get a chance each month to tune into what your body thinks about your stress and other lifestyle factors. Excerpt from Dr Libby's latest book "The Invisible Load".

07.01.2022 Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the current emergencies across Australia. Having a baby or small children with you when faced by an emergency situatio...n adds to the stress of an already pressure-filled situation. There are things you can do in readiness for evacuating with your baby. This helpful article on preparing emergencies includes creating an emergency kit that contains everything you and your breastfed, expressed breastmilk-fed or formula-fed baby will need if essential services are disrupted or you need to evacuate: https://theconversation.com/evacuating-with-a-baby-heres-wh Our website also has further information on infant feeding in emergencies: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au//infant-feeding-emergenci In the event that babies are separated from mothers for any reason, cup-feeding is a useful tool for carers: www.breastfeeding.asn.au/bfinfo/cup-feeding From UNICEF https://uni.cf/359WUit The National Breastfeeding Helpline is available 24 hours a day on 1800 686 268. Parents and carers can call at any time for information or support when needed. We hope that everyone can remain safe through this time.

05.01.2022 This is worth showing your family

02.01.2022 What is stress, really? It is a word we use so easily and often without much thought these days. Not that long ago in human evolution it would have meant that o...ur life was threatened. Now we report feeling stressed about our to-do lists, email inboxes and running late. Stress can also refer to trauma and the after-effects of this can lead to a continued stress response for some people. Please note that I am not referring to trauma but rather the everyday stresses that people describe. In my opinion, stress is the achievers word for fear. Its just that it would sound quite odd to tell people that you are scared of your emails (although you may have joked about this at times!). Think about the last time you felt really worked up on the inside. You may not have shown this outwardly to anyone, but you were stressed. Lets say it was because you were running late for a meeting. Pause to consider what the stress might really have been about. Consider it this way: If stress is actually showing me something that Im frightened of, what might that be? And what youll see when you pull the veil back on what stresses you outin this case the running latewhat most people are scared of is what other people think of them. Once you see the stress for what it really is, you can decide if you stay in that worked-up state or not, as now you can see the truth: you arent stressed, you are worried about what someone (or a group of people) thinks of you. With this insight, you can pause and think through whats really bothering you about this scenario instead of futilely repeating over and over again in your mind Im so stressed, Im so stressed. What are you worried that theyll think of you? How are you concerned that they will perceive you? Name the traits. Each individual has constructed an identity. And we will do anything to stay true to that identity. I describe it this way at my womens weekend events: You have a word written across your forehead and it is so important to you that people view you in this way. You will do anything to remain congruent with that word, including sacrificing your own health (a concept I discuss in my book Rushing Womans Syndrome). So, when you run late and that stresses you out (remember it doesnt stress everyone out), what character traits are you worried will be applied to you? And are they the opposite of how you want to be seen? What word is drawn across your forehead? What traits are important to you and how do you prefer to be seen? Name them. Excerpt from: Dr Libby Weaver, The Beauty Guide.

02.01.2022 Did you know that COVID19 is an "enveloped" virus? This means that it has an outer lipid membrane layer- essentially a fat layer which can be dissolved and broken down like any grease with good old fashioned soap and water, killing the virus therefore reducing transmission. It is encouraged we scrub our hands for 30 seconds... about as long as the song Happy Birthday!! So dont forget to sing when youre scrubbing! PS dont forget the areas most often missed, the back of th...e hand and finger nails! The health and safety of our patients and staff is our top priority, therefore we've added additional hygiene practises to our clinical procedures. These include the availability of hand sanitiser at reception, you are also welcome to wash your hands at the sink on arrival/leaving. All hard surfaces, including door handles, are being regularly disinfected. The linen and surfaces in the treatment rooms are being changed/wiped down between each patient. We encourage people to 'tap' payment at reception, and we are reminding people not to come in if the are unwell, or have recently traveled overseas. We are all completing the Health Department's Infection Control Training- COVID19.
