22.01.2022 We were just out and about doing normal people things for a change and got an urgent call for a very critical little new born to come into care after being abandoned next to it’s siblings who had passed. So meet Joey, who we’re racing home to start treatment for!!

21.01.2022 Furever stories.... Seeing these two furbabies together in their furrrrever home two years on has brought happy tears to our eyes Checkout their beautiful journey below ... Here’s what their dad sent us recently: This weekend gone, we celebrated the 2nd birthdays of our cats Kahless and Lukara (who you might remember as Marty McFly and Scout). The two have grown up into such gorgeous loving cats, each with their own unique and lovable personalities. Kahless is a typical ginger ninja with no fear and a love for food, paper and shower water. Lukara is a shy little girl who will happily sit by herself but also be equally happy to receive pats and cuddles if you go to her. They often spend time snuggling together on Dad's computer desk in their little bed. Kahless will be the first to remind Dad to feed them with boops and cuddles on his chest while he tries to game. Lukara is never far behind but far more polite than her brother. We cannot even imagine our lives without them in it and we have Canberra Pet Rescue to thank for it. Please continue the great work you do for wonderful little creatures like these two. Please consider becoming a regular donor to help us save more little lives this kitten season: https://www.canberrapetrescue.org.au/donate/

20.01.2022 2020 has certainly been one hell of a year for us all but we’ve achieved some incredible things together to save animals in need... We have saved literally THOUSANDS OF ANIMALS IN 2020!! A quick summary of some highlights of 2020 thanks to everyone who supported, volunteered and donated to us:... - bushfire response in our Southern NSW region, including delivering TONNES and tonnes of food, hay, medical supplies and other essential items to assist thousands of affected pets, livestock and wildlife (our help lasted all of 2020) - PetAssist program helping pet owners experiencing crisis, including those adversely affected by COVID-19 - RescueAssist program helping pet and wildlife organisations to save animals in need by providing them with much needed food, medical supplies and equipment - Scaredy Pants program which has been a game changer in rescue and seen many cats and kittens saved and socialised through a structured program, who would’ve otherwise been euthanased in pounds or shelters - rescued, raised, rehabilitated and rehomed MANY cats and kittens who were orphaned, abandoned or surrendered We cannot thank each and everyone of you enough for helping us rescue and save so many animals in 2020. Never have we saved such a HUGE variety and amount of animals in a single year!! To every single person who donated, transported, packed items, organised items, organised logistics, brought us food to keep us going or gave us a shoulder to lean on after we experienced some of the worst and best things, we love you all, THANK YOU!! We have some big plans for 2021 and some exciting news coming up We look forward to a better year for everyone, and together, saving many more little lives From all of us to all of you, Happy New Year

17.01.2022 TOILET TRAINING... Well we made it to the litter but not quite the right way up She’s waiting for her foster parents to toilet her instead of doing it herself, what a cheeky little girl!

16.01.2022 Quick update on Joey the teeny-tiny bub we rescued yesterday. She made it through her first night, lots of ups and downs, she’s certainly a little fighter! She is finally suckling like she should, and is growing stronger each hour. Although she has lost 1gm of her tiny 69gm bodyweight, she’s showing lots of other positive signs so we’re hopeful, but also always bracing ourselves as she’s well below healthy birthweight and very fragile. ... She’s increased her feeding intake from a whole 1ml to 2.5ml now, which we’re over the moon about! Her foster dad is taking a break to rest after a sleepless night and she’s in our other neonate carers (Rachel’s) very capable hands. It takes a whole community effort to raise and rehabilitate all of these furbabies we have in care. We can’t thank each and every one of you enough for your continued support Besides Joey, we have a bunch of other gorgeous kittens (some sick, some young and some ready for homes), and adult cats too (some being rehabilitated and some awaiting homes). Providing a tax deductible donation (or being a regular donor) helps us greatly during this busy time of year: https://www.canberrapetrescue.org.au/donate/ Stay tuned for more updates

16.01.2022 Devastating news It is with great sadness and many tears we tell you that Joey died suddenly yesterday. She was bouncing around playing and wanting lots of cuddles as always on Saturday (this pic was taken Saturday night), but on Sunday morning she was suddenly having trouble breathing and then barely conscious. We raced her to emergency with low heart rate and poor breathing, they were able to stabilise her breathing but she had slipped into a coma. ... Xrays revealed FIP, a very rare and horrible condition that had suddenly filled every cavity in her little body with fluid; around her heart, stomach and brain particularly. FIP is not contagious and not a lot is understood about the condition but it likely has a genetic factor that plays a large part. We knew of a recently released miracle drug for FIP treatment with great success for this fatal disease which ironically we had spoken to Sydney vets about recently (just in case we ever had an FIP case), we were happy to drive her there for it but the vet explained even if it worked she wouldn’t regain consciousness. We had no option but to kiss her and tell her we love her so very much, and then held her while she was kindly put to sleep. In the five weeks we’ve had Joey it’s been a roller coaster at times as she overcame so much and defied all the odds, but to see her thriving and such a little character in the past few weeks we just can’t believe that she’s gone. There’s no words to express how sad we are right now, or how much we loved her. Joey brought so much joy and happiness into our lives in such a short time. She’s left tiny little paw prints all over our hearts and she touched so many people with her strength and the way she took all of the hurdles in her stride. We feel blessed to have had so much happiness and love from our beautiful little girl, and we can’t make sense of the fact that she isn’t here anymore. Joey was very, very loved, and we know she’s up there running around being a cheeky little girl demanding her bottles and watching over us On top of the emotional toll of this tragedy, it’s also been very costly too. Just her assessment, xrays and euthanasia in emergency yesterday cost us over $760. Please make a donation in honor of Joey so we can cover her vet bills and save more little lives: https://www.canberrapetrescue.org.au/donate/ Please give your furbabies an extra hug for us tonight. A special thank you to Dr Jake and his team at ARH Emergency Vets for their care and support. Also thank you to Ann Connolly for sponsoring our gorgeous girl

15.01.2022 A very Merry Catmas from all of us to all of you We hope your day has been filled with joy and happiness and that your fur/feather/scale babies are all spoilt rotten

14.01.2022 Poor Joey had developed sudden swelling on her little paw and her spitty-bottom wasn’t resolving so off we rushed to the vet yesterday. Joey had her tiny paw xrayed and it showed healthy little growing bones, and a large abscess was diagnosed. Due to her size and age (she’s still less than normal birth weight at 7 days old) she couldn’t have any pain relief but she got through with a very skilled vet draining the abscess which relieved the pressure and pain. ... She’s now on meds and we’re keeping the open wound on her paw very clean and regularly bathed, and under vet advice she’s on hourly monitoring, she’s under almost constant supervision anyway - who needs sleep?! She’s back at the vets for a checkup tomorrow. Having two issues happening at the same time isn’t good for her little immune system but we’re certainly doing everything we can. Orphaned neonates have lots of ups and downs and can often cost us over $1,000 to raise due to the medical expenses and supplies required. Please donate to help us raise Joey, she’s worth every cent! https://bit.ly/330lXq7 On a happier note, while at the vets all morning with her (such wonderful care thank you CCV) we ran into our former foster Bowie (now Snowball) who was in for annual vaccination and looking so spectacularly healthy and all grown up

13.01.2022 Her little eyes are opening!! They started to open on day 7 and she’s now 9 days old and has the cutest little almost fully opened eyes. Joey has learnt to use her little voice now and like clockwork when it hits feed time she beats the alarm clock! She’s growing so quickly now, up to 115gms (!!), her paw is healing slowly but surely and her tummy is improving. ... She’s spending time out of the incubator/humidicrib as we need the infection in her paw to heal and humidity isn’t good for that, yet balancing it carefully as the humidicrib it also vital for her growth. She knows she has us all wrapped around her little paws with her purr getting louder each day

12.01.2022 **SPONSORED THANK YOU ** SPONSORS NEEDED Smurfs These little cuties recently-ish came into our care and we really need sponsors for them to name them and help us raise them. ... Sponsorship helps contribute towards things for their upbringing like supplies, premium quality food, litter, formula, medications and nutrient boosters. 12.01.2022 Meet Toffee who’s happy to have premium food and essentials thanks to her sponsors Ray & Lyn Turner She feels the whole world is scary right now as she’s recently come into care, but with our TLC she’ll be thriving in no time. Further info on our program is here: https://www.canberrapetrescue.org.au/scaredypants/... 10.01.2022 ***UPDATE: ADOPTED THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR SHARING AND SAVING THIS BOY*** ***URGENT*** FLASH NEEDS A HOME TODAY!! He is at Queanbeyan Pound and they are inundated with animals so need him in a suitable home today.... Flash is 3 years old, already desexed and was surrendered the the pound. He is a gorgeous floofball with a lot of love to give, he isn’t coping in the pound environment at all and isn’t showing his beautiful personality as he’s highly stressed. Often people want to adopt cute kittens at this time of year and it’s cats like him that are stressed and not selling themselves in the pound that get killed to make space for more kittens. It’s horribly sad. Please note, he is NOT fond of dogs or other cats so needs to be a spoilt only child. He is also not fond of young kids, we suspect he may have had bad experiences with them, so needs a home with older kids and/or adults. Also please note, he needs a home not foster care. If you can offer a loving single pet household to Flash, please call Queanbeyan Pound ASAP on 62856269. **PLEASE SHARE FAR & WIDE - HE NEEDS A HOME TODAY (Mon 23 Nov)**

07.01.2022 As we head into our first night with our little 70gm bundle of joy Joey we’re hopeful she keeps fighting. Joeys carer Brian will be standing watch over her through the night and ensuring she gets lots of TLC ... 07.01.2022 Furever stories.... Gosh it’s hard to believe it’s been a year since Memphis (formally Kaha) was pulled out of an internal wall in a house to be rescued after he fell from in the ceiling where his mum had the litter! At the same time we also managed to rescue little Maize (formally Hahana) who was so tiny and malnourished as her mum had a broken leg and could hardly fend for herself on the streets nevertheless get enough food for her bub too. Her other bubs had been taken... in by another rescue group at birth and she was doing her best to keep her one bub alive. We also took in her mum too, and Memphis’s mum and siblings as well. We have some very fond memories of these two adorable little munchkins, they were with us for Xmas last year and during the start of our bushfire response. They were our calm in the craziness of organising and transporting pet foot and items into bushfire zones. Well look at Memphis and Maize now, one year on and enjoying being spoilt rotten at Xmas with their parents We have included some pics of them from when they were in our care too. Here’s what their mum Leah has to say about them: One year since Canberra Pet Rescue bought these two into our lives Maize our sleek little attention seeking ninja and Memphis our big fluffy couch potato Maize still thinks she is twice her size while Memphis thinks he is tiny like Maize they love to wrestle and Maize will usually show him whose boss! It’s been amazing watching them both grow into their personalities from tiny little squeaking fluff balls. We couldn’t be happier, thanks again
