01.01.2022 ** FOSTER CARER NEEDED ASAP CANBERRA REGION ** Bernie is approximately 8 months old and is a sweet mixed-breed surprise package. Whilst he has the appearance... of being a big dog who just needs to do some more growing, he’s actually on the smaller side of medium and is unlikely to get much bigger than he is now. This lovely boy has spent over half his life in a shelter and urgently needs a foster placement in the Canberra region. Bernie needs a foster family who will work with us and with him to progress his training and prepare him for adoption. He also needs a foster family that: - doesn’t have any young children. A home with no kids or older teenagers would be perfect. - ideally has another dog. Bernie is very friendly with other dogs and he’d love a companion around the same size and energy level as him someone who is happy to interact with him, but isn’t too full on, otherwise playtime will never end! - has a yard with secure, high fencing (ideally 6ft colourbond) - doesn’t have cats, birds or pocket pets - has a relatively calm household with a stable daily routine. Given almost all of his life has been spent in the shelter, Bernie can easily become overstimulated and will require a lot of structure in his foster home while he learns how to be part of a family - will make sure he has things to occupy him when they aren’t home like puzzle toys, fun things to chew, etc But most importantly toys this darling boy looooves his toys! Bernie walks beautifully on leash and as he has a relatively low energy level, a short daily walk is sufficient exercise for him. He’s very handler-engaged and frequently checks-in visually on walks. He is food motivated, but is significantly more responsive when his rewards are love and affection. He travels perfectly in the car, keen to look out the window and watch the world go by or just lay down and wait to see what fun place he may arrive at next. Bernie knows sit, drop and come and has the potential to learn anything else his new family are prepared to teach him. The catch with this is that Bernie’s training needs to be done with signed commands. Whilst he’s not deaf, he is quirky The unique way his brain works means that he doesn’t make direct connections with what he hears, but he very quickly processes what he sees. If you are able to offer Bernie a stable foster placement, please contact us ASAP via a PM or by email at [email protected]
