23.01.2022 UPDATE: Home visit has been done and has the tick of approval, he is a hop, skip and jump away from the lake and the beach, he has a loving couple to give him the best life every dog deserves. LOOKS LIKE OUR BOY IS OFF TO HIS NEW HOME TO THE COAST UP NEAR LAKE MACQUARIE, HIS NEW MUM AND DAD ARE IN THEIR EARLY 60'S AND RETIRED, THIS BOY WILL WANT FOR NOTHING, THE HOME VISIT WILL SEAL IT AS I HAVE A LADY UP THAT WAY WHO CAN MEET THE COUPLE AND THEIR HOME, SO ALL GOOD, IF ALL ...GOES WELL I WILL BE MEETING THEM IN GOULBURN, THIS BOY WILL GET EVRYTHING HE NEEDS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. Bandit has had a name change to "Barney" and having observed him and his behaviour over the last week or so his personality has come out more as he relaxes and shows his Shih Tzu traits. PLEASE EMAIL ME [email protected] AND TELL ME ALL ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR LIFE STYLE, PLEASE DON'T CALL AS I AM NOT ALWAYS ABLE TO ANSWER THE PHONE. Barney is a great little dog, he just loves people and other calm dogs, being a Shih Tzu he has a calm personality. Barney is 9 years old so has quite a few more years in him. He needs to be an indoor outdoor dog, he must sleep inside took him a minute to use the dog door and he went straight out so can say he will need a home who have a dog door. He needs to sleep inside at night as he can be a tad barky if left out. Barneys forever home he would do best as an only dog although he tries to get the others to play as he does the play bow gesture but none of mine want to play but he is a tad possessive with food and attention when other dogs are around. Barney would suit a retired couple/person where he has his owners around during the day, he can't be on his own all day he deserves more than that. A home by the sea would suit him as well, so if you think you can give Barney a great home by all means send me an email. Enquiries will not be answered if you have young children, work full time and you don't want an indoor dog.UPDATE"

23.01.2022 Well we are at the end of another year, we have had a few surrenders this year and all pooches have gone to great homes. It has been a busy year for me personally, I turned the big 70 in October, sold my house here in Captains Flat and renting back for 6 months, am waiting now for my number to come up with Affordable Care over 65's with Housing ACT Am off to Hobart on Wednesday to spend Christmas and New Year with my brother and extended family in Hobart as I have done for th...e last 9 years since our mum passed 10 years ago I wish every one of you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year and stay safe Cheers Maree

18.01.2022 Just wanted to update my friends who are aware that I am going back in to Canberra from early next year, (from Captains Flat) I have sold my home here and will be renting back until I get to my "last resting place" to Affordable Care over 65's townhouse under ACT Housing. It will be a 2 bed townhouse with small court yard for the 2 dogs I will have with me, hence why I had to rehome 2 of my other dogs some months back. I am sad to be leaving Captains Flat and have enjoye...d every moment, it is a great place to get back to nature and the dogs have 1000sqm block to run around regardless of the space they still tend to be inside with me. It will be good also to get back to having facilities ie Drs etc. I reach the big 70 in October but still feel in my head like I am still a teenager but in a buggered body. Canberra Pooch Rescue will continue for as long as I can keep going, once in your blood if never leaves. We will continue to take surrenders, unfortunately only the smalls, but I am always here to take calls from people who have bigger dogs and need to rehome them and don't know where to or call the right places to start. Please pass on my mobile 0499 266 838 if you know anyone that is having trouble rehoming their pooches and they don't know what to do or where to go. Maree

17.01.2022 This beautiful girl is wishing for a new home for Christmas. She has raised her litter in the local pound and they have all gone off to their new families. Now its her turn to find some love. She is a petite little girl and still under 12months old. She is very affectionate, clean, and in good health.... She would love and indoor home or one with a secure area for her to explore and bask in the sunshine. Her adoption fee (in comments) includes, worming, microchip, vaccination, desexing and lifetime registration. Her adoption fee is $180 Please share her to help find her a home. 10.01.2022 UPDATE: RILEY HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME WITH ANOTHER DOG FOR COMPANY. I have been inundated with suitable homes for Riley so will put him on hold and not accepting any more inquires which will give me time to go through them and then make my calls, those who didn't put their mobile on their email can you please send it to me so I can go through the list and get back to the ones who are offering him a great home. We have just had another pooch come in to our care, let me intr...oduce you to Riley. Riley is a cross Malt/cross, supposed to be with a Corgi but I wouldn't put my house on it, can't see any Corgi in him at all, he does have a thickish coat though but has been shaved back as he was in a bit of a mess when he arrived but has had his make over done by Tania from House of Dog who is our amazing foster care and a few other things thrown in. Now this boy is super cute, loves other dogs, loves playing with them, he is super friendly to humans also, he is around 3 and a half years old. His criteria is that he will need another dog around his age and temperament one who is friendly and loves other dogs and playing. He is a sweet boy who loves to chill out with the others and people. He will suit a family with older kids around the 10 and up, gentle children who will give him space and not give him a hard time. He would also suit a family who have another dog HE CANNOT BE AN ONLY DOG AND LEFT ON HIS OWN ALL DAY. He would suit an active retired person/couple who can spend time with him He will not suit apartment living he needs to lie in the sun in a yard and have grass under his feet so to speak. If you feel you fit the criteria and can give this boy the BEST home then email me at: Unfortunately his adoption fee is higher than the standard fee as he is going in to the vets on Monday to fix a cherry eye which is around the $800 + add his desexing on to that which is $250, plus vaccination $55 Total, $1,100, I pay for the dogs vet work myself out of my pension, his adoption fee will be $700 as to cover some of that cost the remainder will be covered by myself . If you are interested in the possible adoption please email me and tell me all about yourself and your family and your life style and what you can offer this little guy as his previous home was not the best, so his new home has to pretty good as he is so young he needs to get the best possible home. Thanks Maree [email protected]:

07.01.2022 I am listing this Staffy for a family who can no longer keep him so please make any inquiries to the contact listed: From the owner: I have a beautiful male Staffy staying with me at the moment at my house in Canberra. I have promised him i would try to find him a new home with someone who will love him and give him a great life. He is a big cuddle monster and loves his humans. He likes nothing more than his affectionate interactions or a good sleep. He's very strong so isn't... suited to his former household as there are very young children there now. He's approximately 5-6 years old and has no known health issues. Evo is generally a very happy and easy going dog, he is not suited to being around very young children. He likes to be where ever the humans are but mostly inside although he loves a good sun bake. He is cautious of strange or new dogs but once he gets to know them is perfectly fine making friends. Please contact Todd with you inquiry [email protected]

07.01.2022 These 2 oldies are in the Queanbeyan Pound and need a retirement home where they will be spoilt for the rest of their lives, they were surrendered by their owner as he could no longer look after them. This is from the rangers: We have had two dogs surrendered to us with terrible mange which is currently being treated. They are both staffy’s;... ‘Pumba’, S19, 10 years old, Female/Spey, 943094320024126, Black she is a funny little thing, she does bark and growl when she is approached however she is all bluff and settles down as soon as you are in the pen with her. ‘Agro’, S20, 9 10 years old, Male, 943094320296421, Black he is a very placid boy. Both dogs are quite bonded (after 9 years together they don’t like to be apart), we are hoping to find a rescue/new home for them together however we are aware that this may be unlikely. Neither of the dogs are good with cats or smaller animals. If you able to help find these guys a home that would be great. I have attached a photo of them below. Both dogs have a few lumps on them which I have asked the rangers to get the vet to look at them and let me know if they are nasties or just old "dog" lumps, will post the outcome as soon as I know. They have never been around kids so I would say best to not put them with kids as they are senior dogs and the kids will possibly annoy them, just like me I would be annoyed living with kids They just need a quite home to just chill out for what ever time/years they have. The last thing we need is for them to pass away in the pound environment. They are being cared for by the great staff at the pound. If they come under rescue there is no cost to get them out, hopefully we can spread the word and find these 2 Staffies a great "retirement home"

04.01.2022 This is what rescue is all about, finding the right homes for the fosters, here is Barney at the beach for the first time he has found a great couple who just love him to bits.

03.01.2022 I am listing a poster for Brenda ACT Cat Rescue to help her raise some much needed funds for one of her foster cats who is in need of an eye operation, if you are able to help her donations can be made directly to the AH Vet clinic in Fyshwick.
