22.01.2022 This is worth reading. You may not agree, but it is the view of a First Nation’s person, politician, and advocate on indigenous issues.

22.01.2022 Where do your preferences go? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Is a very common question. With the ACT Hare Clark, voting system preferences are solely up to YOU the voter. Hare Clark voting allows you to vote for as many candidates as you like, in fact the more numbers you put on the ballot paper the better for minor parties and independents. ...Continue reading

20.01.2022 "It's reasonable for Canberrans to expect their major hospital will be able to deal with a bad flu or hayfever season." Canberra Times - - - - - - - CANBERRA TIMES: For many months, the COVID-19 pandemic masked the true state of affairs at Canberra Hospital. Gone was the familiar sight of beds in the emergency department corridors for weeks on end in the peak of winter, with social distancing meaning there was no flu season to speak of. Luckily for the Labor government, it me...ant the management of Canberra Hospital played a relatively minor role in the lead-up to the election. On Tuesday the hospital was so busy it was forced to divert ambulances to Calvary Hospital after initiating a partial bypass. Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said it was just another one of the unprecedented events 2020 has thrown our way. But to characterise it as such is disingenuous. It's reasonable for Canberrans to expect their major hospital will be able to deal with a bad flu or hayfever season. It's just daily business. Out of the ordinary events that no one can truly plan for will inevitably happen. But while Tuesday may have been exceptionally busy, it wasn't out of the blue. Presentations at Canberra Hospital have been picking up since lockdown lifted. And, according to medical staff inside the hospital, the past few weeks and months have been busier than ever. The blame for the capacity issues does not rest with Ms Stephen-Smith. She only took over the portfolio last year. For that matter it doesn't rest with any single health minister or chief minister. It's a complex problem caused over many years with no easy fix. FULL STORY https://www.canberratimes.com.au//labor-has-had-decades-/

18.01.2022 Stay safe fellow Canberrans!

18.01.2022 Minor parties in Canberra have been united in their call for a crossbench. Hear about their platforms and campaigns so far. Questions welcome.

17.01.2022 "The Canberra Progressives are a serious party with serious intentions to be a major player in the long term. We're not a 'flash in the pan'. There is a local policy platform for the Canberra Progressives, as well as a national policy platform for the Australian Progressives - which covers many, but not all issues. Where we don't have an existing policy, we are keen to talk to experts, and engage with affected communities, in helping us to consider and shape new policy." 17.01.2022 Liberal leader Alistair Coe said that, if his party won office after next month's election, his government would "ensure" that more GP practices provided services with no out-of-pocket costs, through a targeted business-assistance program. Australian Medical Association ACT president Antonio Di Dio said this morning the plan sounded "intriguing" but worried it might not be financially viable. "In order to see a patient, it costs you about $50 and if you bulk bill them you a...ctually lose about $12. So if you bulk bill all your patients, you will very quickly go broke." More knee jerk, pork barrelling? Poor research, wilfully cynical or just NFI? This policy seems to have no basis in EVIDENCE of beneficial outcomes for patients, just the bankrupting of health professionals???Just ask the Dr!! Why would we trust a team with so little understanding of how doctors and their businesses work, to run an entire budget funding all our current community and social services ? Adequate resourcing of health centres, and social medicine does not start with business discounts, community health is not the business of the MARKET. Better health outcomes start with a commitment to HEALTH as a basic social service, which is the responsibility of government, NOT BUSINESS. A policy with no moral or ethical anchor, just a headline promise hoping to attract voters with dollars.. if they got in how long would their concern about access to social medicine last? #electionpromises #ethicalpolicy #DemandBetter #ACTcrossbenchNOW #SocialServicesAreEssentialServices Vote1 Canberra Progressives

07.01.2022 Our take on Andrew Barr's (only if re-elected) education promises BARR: If re-elected a FREE breakfast and lunch $700,000 trial for five schools - - - - - - - - CP: How about we help all kids across Canberra. Only 1 in 3 ACT public schools currently have a functioning school canteen, how about we fund school canteens to provide healthy food options, discounted or free food for those that need it. Those schools that don't have a canteen the government could cut the red tape a...nd remove the barriers to help and fund school P&C's to set up and run canteens. The NSW Government has a NSW Healthy School Canteens Strategy to help their schools provide healthy food options for their students. Did you know almost all the canteens in ACT Public Schools are run by the schools P&C, not the school or the directorate? BARR: If re-elected new primary school and high school for growing north Gungahlin - - - - - - - - CP: How about actually developing a plan to address our overcrowded public schools across Canberra. Actually, talk to parents, P&Cs and industry experts to develop this plan. Promising to Build new schools once every 4 years, only in marginal electorates is shallow, and pork barrelling at it's worst. BARR: If re-elected free early learning for every three-year-old one day per week - - - - - - - - CP: Not a bad idea. But this comment from Barr "if re-elected Labor would deliver on the promise by the end of the next term of government." Which makes it sound like another textbook election promise that will gather dust until 6 weeks out from the next election. BARR: If re-elected Labor pledges $99 million for a school renewal program - - - - - - - - CP: How about not waiting for an election to promises to fix things that should have been fixed years ago? - - - #DemandBetter VOTE Canberra Progressives - - - MORE INFO - - - Kurrajong Peta Swarbrick-Bryant Canberra Progressives for Kurrajong Tim Böhm - Canberra Progressives Therese Faulkner - Canberra Progressives for Kurrajong Yerrabi Mike Stelzig - Canberra Progressives for Yerrabi Bethany Williams - Canberra Progressives Candidate for Yerrabi Murrumbidgee Robert Knight - Canberra Progressives for Murrumbidgee Stephen Lin

06.01.2022 "How a government embraces transparency is an important sign. Again not much has changed". It's like time has stood still in the ACT when it comes to the attitude of the major political parties. This article from the The RiotACT is a few years old, but it is still relevant for this election in 2020. But one thing that HAS changed, is that this time, Canberrans can choose to vote for a stable, viable, ethical party with common sense and values that are exactly in step with th...e ACT community. There is finally a credible alternative to the duopoly! If you want to influence how the government treats Canberrans, then vote for the Canberra Progressives in Yerrabi, Kurrajong and Murrumbidgee. We are going to provide a sensible and engaging cross-bench that listens to the voices in the community and advocates on their behalf in the Legislative Assembly. DEMAND BETTER

06.01.2022 #DemandBetter. Vote 1 for the Canberra Progressives this election to ensure we get an effective cross bench.

06.01.2022 HOW TO VOTE FOR THE CANBERRA PROGRESSIVES You must number at least 1 to 5 on your ballot card. Vote 1, 2 (and if you’re in Kurrajong) 3 in your order of choice for Canberra Progressives candidates. Afterwards, number other candidates in your order of choice, up to at least 5. It’s recommended to continue numbering boxes up until at least 10 to be sure your vote does not exhaust.... We also recommend you keep minor parties and independents high in your voting preferences and leave the major parties last.

05.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE 4 October 2020 Liberal MLA Unfit for Government The Canberra Progressives are calling on the Canberra Liberals to issue a formal apology to Yerrabi Candidate, Bethany Williams in the wake of false allegations, intimidation and harassment by Canberra Liberals MLA, James Milligan.... It’s simply unethical said Robert Knight, commenting on the behaviour of Milligan. And a clear breach of public trust. Mr Milligan has some serious questions to answer with respect to his integrity. Mr Knight, Australian Progressives National President, and Canberra Progressives Candidate for Murrumbidgee, was commenting on a recent incident involving unprovoked intimidation of Ms Williams. Ms Williams was distressed after an incident late on Wednesday night involving two men who stopped to take imagery of Ms Williams erecting roadside signs. At the time, they didn’t identify themselves, leading Ms Williams to feel intimidated and unsafe. On Thursday Mr Milligan phoned Ms Williams to accuse her of interfering with his signs, and admitted that his son was one of the men who stopped to take imagery of her. When asked how Mr Milligan obtained Ms Williams’ phone number, his alleged response was to say, I am an MLA. I have access to everyone’s information. Suggesting he had proof of Ms Williams interfering with his signs, but without providing evidence, Mr Milligan then informed Ms Williams that he had referred the matter to police. ACT Policing have confirmed with the Canberra Progressives that as of Friday 2 October no report about this incident had been submitted. It has been a tough campaign for me said Ms Williams. As a single mum, with a day job, and running as a candidate for a minor party, I squeeze in my campaign work whenever I can. This incident has left me hugely distressed, and absolutely furious at such grossly false allegations. It’s completely unacceptable for an MLA to obtain my personal details for the purposes of intimidation and harassment said Ms Williams. On 2 October Ms Williams wrote to the Canberra Liberals with a number of requests including advice on how Mr Milligan obtained her phone number, whether the Canberra Liberals accept this kind of behaviour by its representatives, and a formal apology from Mr Milligan for his intimidation and harassment. No response has been received. James Milligan and the Canberra Liberals should apologise. This behaviour does not meet the standards of integrity our citizens should expect and demand from our elected representatives said Robert Knight. He continued, the Canberra Progressives stand for ethics and integrity in our political processes, and those who seek public office. The fact there has been no acknowledgement of Ms Williams’ correspondence demonstrates contempt, and a worrying lack of integrity in a person seeking to represent Canberrans. We Demand Better.

04.01.2022 Our take on Alistair Coe's education promises... - - - - COE: "Focus on foundational learning, or going back to basics" - - - - - - - - CP: Presumably, they want to renegotiate the ACT's longstanding national agreement with the Commonwealth regarding the Australian Curriculum... COE: "Free teachers from administrative burdens" - - - - - - - - CP: But they don't say how COE: "Deliver world-class language education in every school" - - - - - - - - CP: It's insulting to assume they don't already COE: "Deliver a mindfulness and meditation program for Year 3 students" - - - - - - - - CP: Not a bad idea, but this should be for all students K - 6, it should also include respectful relationships program that addresses not just bullying. COE: "Provide teachers with more mental health first aid training" - - - - - - - - CP: This is necessary and perhaps their best idea COE: "Bring religious chaplains back into our secular schools" - - - - - - - - CP: Instead of chaplains, we could invest in school psychologists who are actually university trained in mental health services. - - - - #DemandBetter VOTE Canberra Progressives - - - MORE INFO - - - Kurrajong Therese Faulkner - Canberra Progressives for Kurrajong Tim Böhm - Canberra Progressives Peta Swarbrick-Bryant Canberra Progressives for Kurrajong Yerrabi Bethany Williams - Canberra Progressives Candidate for Yerrabi Mike Stelzig - Canberra Progressives for Yerrabi Murrumbidgee Robert Knight - Canberra Progressives for Murrumbidgee Stephen Lin
