25.01.2022 On behalf of all the member agencies of CRN, a big heart-felt Thank You to ACT Emergency Services Agency for standing with us. SES volunteers have assembled and packed hampers and delivered them to partner agencies all with great efficiency and good humour.

24.01.2022 Our friends from IKEA Canberra at Majura Park dropped in this morning to donate food that our volunteer Chef Thomas will be preparing for our staff and volunteers. There may have also been a basket of fresh hot cinnamon rolls but for some reason, they didn't make it into this photo. . .

20.01.2022 Spit shack is supporting food relief in the ACT, please support them today, while keeping your physical distancing.....

20.01.2022 Looking for some low-cost, healthy prepared meals to work in with the essential hampers we provide? No Biggie was designed as a lifeline for hospitality and a support network for the community seeking a way to care for their favourite venues, as well as providing ready-to-eat meals in a time of supermarket chaos. https://www.nobiggie.co/

20.01.2022 Demand for the services of some food relief charities has surged by up to sixfold in the past month as half the nation's businesses either cut jobs or reduce hours. Meanwhile, donations from supermarkets and other businesses that usually give in bulk have dried up, charities say, as those companies work to keep their own shelves stocked with essential items following a wave of panic buying.

19.01.2022 Hands Across Canberra is the official charity partner for the Canberra Relief Network. All contributions to HAC during this ACT Public Health Emergency will go towards the organisations that are assisting the most vulnerable in our community. Your financial contribution is the best way to 'help the helpers' right now. You can make a one-off or recurring gift securely here: https://buff.ly/34nMrkL

18.01.2022 Yes, our essentials pack do contain the, ahem, essentials.

17.01.2022 As the Pandemic and associated economic crisis continues, is this sobering article from the NY Times a prediction of what is in store for Australia? Demand for food assistance is rising at an extraordinary rate, just as the food banks are being struck by shortages of both donated food and volunteer workers. To support our work, visit Hands Across Canberra, our Community Foundation https://buff.ly/34nMrkL

16.01.2022 COVID-19 will be the best-documented pandemic in history so why not tell your story? The National Museum of Australia wants to hear and see how you lived, loved and managed pandemic 2020, a pandemic marked by self-isolation, social distancing and empty shelves in the age of plenty.

15.01.2022 We understand that Hunger knows no borders, but our service is only for ACT residents.

14.01.2022 Thanks to our fabulous media partners at The RiotACT for covering our work!

14.01.2022 Being a short-term lean-mean-food distribution machine, we didn't think much about having a place for our team to take breaks. Lucky for us, our friends at IKEA Canberra came to the rescue today. We are grateful for their support and all the work they do to support the community sector here in Canberra.

13.01.2022 We are one, but we are many. We hope this video from the ABC brightens your day.

13.01.2022 Foodbank NSW & ACT work closely Government, Australian food and grocery industry, farmers, wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to source stock that’s doesn't meet retail standards or is in excess. In addition to the traditional food rescue channels, they collaborate with suppliers and transport companies to source key staple foods that don’t come in sufficient quantities via rescue channels.

12.01.2022 We've had heaps of questions at CRN about donating food. Unfortunately, due to the health and hygiene restrictions, we are not able to accept donations from your pantry. But, that doesn't mean you can't get involved. Many in our community are setting up neighbourhood pantries and coming up with creative ways to support each other. Here's some inspiration: https://buff.ly/2ZTGBHZ

11.01.2022 Great to see all the ways that the local community services sector is being agile and nimble in meeting evolving need during this time! https://buff.ly/2XOFvMt

11.01.2022 The CRN team is very lucky to have Danielle Bate on the team from Canberra City Care . Danielle is the CRN Partner Liasion. Based in our Food Operations Centre, Danielle schedules deliveries for each of our Partner Agencies. She also makes sure that every hamper that leaves CRN gets into the hands of a needy household as quickly as possible.

09.01.2022 No Biggie Meals is a movement of local food and hospitality businesses who refused to be side-lined by COVID-19. They are keeping staff employed, preparing healthy and tasty meals that you can order when you can't bear the thought of cooking or ordering another pizza. When you schedule your No Biggie meal delivery or pickup, how about adding a couple more orders in for us? At CRN we are particularly appreciative of this partnership as it allows our Network Partners to c...ater to special dietary needs such as those who live with Coeliac Disease. Far from being just 'fussy' or 'picky' individuals who live with Coeliac Disease battle a chronic illness with no cure and are particularly vulnerable to issues of food security during these difficult times. 09.01.2022 How's this for a friendly face? April Ederosas is on secondment in our Connect Centre from The Mill House Ventures Ltd. Our Connect Centre is the heart of our operations at CRN. Many people who have never before needed to access social welfare or emergency food relief are phoning to organise food essentials hampers. Our caring operators are willing to listen and make referrals to other services as needed.

09.01.2022 Did you know that our hampers are designed to support a family of 4 for 1 week? If your household is bigger than 4 (as per your medicare card), then larger hampers can be arranged. By registering with us, it is easier and faster to schedule subsequent hampers when supplies run out.

09.01.2022 From across the ditch....

07.01.2022 So cool to see the great work of our CRN Network Partners!

06.01.2022 Wonder where our food comes from? CRN gratefully acknowledges the unwavering support of Foodbank NSW & ACT as our major supplier. Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing approximately 70% of food assistance to individuals and families across NSW & ACT. They partner with over 1,012 charity partners and schools to distribute food to those facing hardship, with 373,173 people receiving food assistance each month.

06.01.2022 For all those tempted to make a sneaky trip to the beach. . . We are all in this together. #StaySafe #StayHome

05.01.2022 Our Contact Centre is closed today for Good Friday and will re-open on Tuesday 14 April, but if you register your details on our website, https://buff.ly/2X2hjph we will contact you as soon as we re-open. If you are looking for information about emergency food relief in the meantime, here are some options: https://buff.ly/2XdUQ90.

05.01.2022 Our food relief partners have been busy this Easter holiday.

04.01.2022 Shout out to all the great Aussie growers and producers who are maintaining our food supply in these difficult times. COVID-19 presents farmers with a biosecurity threat like no other which they must manage to continue food production

02.01.2022 Like many organisations, the social distancing rules are never far from our minds, even in the Food Operations Centre. Many of our partner agencies are also organising for our hampers to be picked up by appointment to limit contact. Each of our hampers also includes guidance about safe handling.

01.01.2022 This week’s news wrap comes from Kippax where Deputy Chief Minister Yvette Berry is setting out on an Easter egg hunt. It’s been a big week for COVID-19 news and we’re also talking about everything from death mushrooms to sourdough bread starters.

01.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder from us!
