25.01.2022 Whether our April launch will go ahead will be guided by both TRA policies and those of the Australian health Dept. Please see the TRA position below and we will keep you advised as the situation progresses.
24.01.2022 The Canberra Rocketry Group executive met via video conference today to discuss the increasing incidence of COVID-19 in Australia and how that will impact our launches. There are increasing numbers of cases in the Greater Sydney area and it is something we need to monitor and plan around. There are no cases of COVID-19 in the Bland shire at present but ACT Health has suggested that non-essential travel to regional NSW should be reconsidered and in particular to/from the great...er Sydney area. It was decided at the executive meeting to cancel the next High Power launch at Ardlethan (commencing 9th August). while most attendees will be coming from areas where there are no COVID-19 cases, it was decided that the most prudent course of action would be to cancel the launch to minimise risk to members and to the Ardlethan community. The Ardlethan community has strongly supported CRG and our rocketry activities. We do not want to increase the COVID-19 risk to the community given that their nearest medical services are over an hour away. Low and mid power launches at Manton are still planned but will be conditional on the COVID-19 situation at that time. The executive will hold a zoom meeting the weekend before the launch and review the situation and, if necessary, cancel the planned launch. COVID-19 has certainly thrown a spanner in the works for 2020. It is still a rapidly moving and changing environment that we are living in, particularly as it appears the second wave of COVID-19 is bearing down on us. Stay safe and well. #canberrarocketry
23.01.2022 Our next scheduled low/mid power launch at Manton Road will be next Sunday. Currently group gatherings in NSW are limited to 20 people. We will need to restrict attendance to the required committee members and then to normal members only on a first-in basis. No spectators please, unless you have checked with a committee member first to confirm whether the limit has been reached. Could normal members please indicate as to whether you plan to attend this launch. A list will be... compiled and circulated when the limit has been reached. We will need to have a list of attendees for possible contact tracing - hopefully this will not be required! Those of you that do attend, please ensure that you adhere to the recommended COVID-19 precautions of separation and hygiene. Add hand sanitizer (and mask if you wish) and your own pen (for filling out the launch sheet) to your list, along with the usual hat, sunscreen & water. There will be hand sanitizer at the LCO table, but we will be limiting contact exchanges to a minimum. We will announce any required procedures on the day at the pre-launch briefing. Please ensure your Tripoli membership is current and that you have renewed your CRG membership. We will be offering a launch credit to members to compensate for the cancelled launches. These cancelled launches include April, May and June low/mid power; April and June high power. So, for low/mid power members yo pay $6.00, and for high power members you pay $30. Please note that these credits are only offered to CRG members who are currently financial for the year July 2019 - June 2020 year. All others will be required to pay the standard launch fee of $10 (low/mid power) and $50 (high power). Please check out the CRG website or Facebook page for any updates later in the week. If you have responded to John D's email about attending the launch, you do not need to post your request to attend on here. Stay safe & well.
20.01.2022 Canberra Rocketry Group welcomed the YMCA Space Squad to their Manton Road launch site today to launch rockets they had built as part of their course. Many thanks to CRG's John D and Nev F for making sure the cadets had a successful launch. A great afternoon of launching was had by all and we look forward to welcoming Space Squad back in October. Below are some videos from the launch afternoon... #canberrarocketry
19.01.2022 Our mid and low power launch on the 3rd of May is cancelled due to the COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings still being in place. Instead of the launch we will hold another of our skype get togethers on Sunday starting at 10:00am. Head to our website and click on the link on the news page (same link at last month). Feel free to join in with a coffee and have a chat about how your builds are progressing and what you are looking at launching when we are finally able to ...burn some blackpowder and composite propellant. Our web page is http://canberrarocketry.space/ #canberrarocketry
17.01.2022 Hi Folks, Since there's be a bit of a slight pause (hopefully not too long - fingers crossed) in the CRG's launch schedule for the year, I thought I'd point you to a link to SpaceX's just released Starship Users Guide. A rocket user guide gives prospective customers initial details on the payload capacity, available payload space, environment conditions experienced during launch, etc. Among other things it allows you to pick the right rocket for your satellite, or for you to ...be able to design your satellite to fit into the payload bay of your choice of rocket and for the satellite to survive to orbit (i.e cope with the environmentals). Check out p2 and the payload volume... Wow! and p5 over 100 tonnes to LEO. Here's the link: https://www.spacex.com///files/starship_users_guide_v1.pdf
16.01.2022 Our next low and mid power launch is scheduled for Sunday April 5th and will go ahead pending weather and any future COVID-19 requirements. Based on the current advice (as of 16th March), the launch will fall well under the limit for social gatherings. If you attend the launch please ensure that you observe the of the Australian Department of Health (https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-hea) recommendations on how to protect yourself and others. The COVID-...19 pandemic has resulted in a range of fast changing policy and health recommendations from the government and we will comply with those requirements should they change from where they sit at the moment. If you are feeling at all unwell, do not attend the launch. If we go ahead with the launch, set up will commence at about 9am and launching from 9:30am. #canberrarocketry
14.01.2022 As mentioned in the previous post, our April 5 launch is cancelled. Please see TRA president, Steve Shannon's post below. We are in uncharted territory at the moment. The COVID-19 pandemic is not something we have experienced before. CRG will act on the best available information and follow the policies of both the TRA and the Australian government. Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all the next time we can hold a launch.
13.01.2022 The response to the COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated restrictions on movement and activities to an extent we have not experienced before. At present (March 29) people are being asked to remain at home and gatherings are restricted to 2 people. We have no idea how long these restrictions will be in place or if they will become tighter over time. As a result the CRG executive has decided to cancel our High Power launch that was scheduled for the 17-19 April. We are also awar...e that social isolation / restrictions can have detrimental impacts on people. We have decided that until we are allowed hold our low and mid power launches again, we will host a skype virtual meetup on the first Sunday of each month kicking off at 10am. The first of these will be on Sunday 5th April. Check out our News page on the website www.canberrarocketry.space for the link to the meetup and feel free to join in. You don't even need a skype account if you follow the link on the news page (remember that daylight savings finishes the night before) Stay safe and we will see you all in person on the other side of this.

09.01.2022 Hello Folks, Unfortunately, the CRG committee has decided to cancel tomorrows' launch at Yass due to the ongoing concerns over COVID. The 2020 AGM that was also scheduled for prior to the launch will be postponed to a later date to be advised. As most of our regular members are from Canberra and nearby NSW locations, as well as Sydney, it was decided that this was the most prudent action given current advice from ACT Health.
08.01.2022 Hi Folks. We hope everyone is staying safe and finding some time to work on new builds / repairs for when we can start flying again. Just a heads up: If you are a Rocksim user a new version (version 10) has just been released. Don't forget to upgrade. The Apogee website says it is a free upgrade for version 9 users.
07.01.2022 A quick reminder that our 5th April launch is cancelled but we will be having a skype catch-up at 10:00am. Check out our News page on the website www.canberrarocketry.space for the link to the meetup and feel free to join in. You don't even need a skype account if you follow the link on the news page Remember that daylight savings finishes tonight so put your clocks back an hour before going to bed tonight.
06.01.2022 We hope everyone is staying safe during the restrictions that have been imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Below is the latest information from TRA president Steve Shannon. The TRA board has decided that TRA memberships will be extended by 2 months to take into account the current moratorium on launching. The launch moratorium has been extended until the 28th April. The board also decided to temporarily remove the expiry of High Power certifications in recognitio...n of the financial harships that many will face during and coming out of the current pandemic. See Steve's message below for full details. Please note that our launches are subject to the requirments of both the TRA board and the NSW Government and we are unable to hold launches until we get the all clear from both. Stay safe and well. 06.01.2022 Our low and mid power launch for the 1st Sunday of June and our High Power launch later in June are now cancelled due to the on-going COVID-19 restrictions. While some restrictions will be relaxed in NSW on the 1st June, it will still not be possible to hold a launch that is accessible to everyone. Rather than turn people away who have come to launch but whose presence take the numbers at the launch over the maximum allowed we have decided that the best option is to cancel t...he June launches. Stay safe and well and hopefully we will be back to running in July. #canberrarocketry
05.01.2022 Congratulations to SpaceX on a successful launch.
04.01.2022 A rocketry based description of 2020 so far.
03.01.2022 Our launch on the 5th April is now cancelled. The TRA board has determined that all launches for the next 15 days are cancelled as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result CRG will not be hosting the launch on the 5th April. The relevant part from the TRA email is below "All TRA sanctioned launches, meetings, or other gatherings shall be canceled for a minimum of 15 days, starting March 18, 2020... We will continue to monitor the situation. Please stay safe and healthy" See more
