24.01.2022 It's time for another update: the last of the orders are now cut out and ready to be sewn together over the next two weeks. the photo is hte orders waiting to be sewn up. After that, we will try to focus on getting more boots on the shelves. Thankyou to everyone for being so understanding and patient.

24.01.2022 Thankyou to everyone that wrote to the 'Fix my street' link on the Access Canberra page. Hopefully we will get some long-term results. We shouldn't have to recommend that customers avoid visiting us because of rain. When it's just the Canberra Tannery writing there is not much chance of getting anything done, but with more people commenting about the road, we might actually get a sealed road for the Canberra Tannery's 50th anniversary! :-) So please share and sign if you haven't already done so. The road has dried out but the pot-holes are still getting bigger at the end of the road

24.01.2022 On the weekend we went up to the Snowy River and stayed in a cabin near Dalgety. Lovely country! Nice warm spring weather, but we still needed our ugh boots at night and first thing in the morning. Ugh boots are perfect with a glass of wine or cup of cocoa and a campfire.

24.01.2022 It is the week before Mother's Day, which is the busiest time of the year for us. Today and yesterday were the busiest days in the 43 years and 3 weeks we have been operating. Thankyou to everyone that has purchased our products this season. It is a nice feeling to think about all the people warm and comfy tonight in their new ugh boots and slippers. This coming week will be even busier. We can arrange appointments out of usual business hours. If you want to visit us during the day, before 10am is the quietest times. Please bring your old ugh boots or slippers as a size reference. Our sizes are from the 1970s lol if there are too many people for the tannery to handle at once, we just ask people to wait outside for a few minutes. And if you are buying a present for your mum or wife; bring her with you to get the perfect fit

23.01.2022 Its cold and dark and rainy. Everyone needs a pair of toasty slippers or boots to warm them up and keep them comfy this weekend and in the months to come. If you don't already have some, come and see us asap. Beat the winter rush!

23.01.2022 Update: Many of you know that we sold out of ugh boots around Mother’s Day in our busiest season in 43 years. Then we sold out of gift vouchers! So many people were working from home and studying at home, or isolating. At Canberra Tannery we are glad we could make that time a little more comfortable for so many people. Then we were overwhelmed with orders. We are currently trying to work our way through those orders before we take on anymore. There are still almost no ...boots on the shelves as we try to get the backlog cleared Thankyou to all the amazingly patient potential customers that are waiting for us to get things back under control We are very fortunate to have you! And to top things off one of our binding machines has broken and we can’t get the mechanic up from Sydney until late next week! If you do visit the tannery, and there are too many people for the workshop area to hold safely and comfortably we are still asking people wait outside a few minutes. Thanks everyone! See more

22.01.2022 Every Canberran knows that when it rains, it pours. One of our sewing machines broke down last week (during the busiest season we have ever had!) and we had to wait for the mechanic to come up from Sydney to fix her. And what was the problem? A tiny ball of fluff jammed in the bobbin! Took 3 minutes to fix. Here's a photo of the mechanic giving all the machines a service while he was here, and mum testing the machine. It's All Systems Are Go for this week!

22.01.2022 As the ugh boot season gets underway, it usually starts getting very busy in the tannery as people buy ugh boots and slippers for winter. But we need to be responsible and follow spatial distancing guidlelines as closely as possible for everyone's well-being. It's a small shop so we can really only handle one household at a time (plus me and the sewing ladies). Saturdays are usually especially busy, so please avoid Saturday mornings as much as possible. I am willing to make an appointment after hours if this helps (contact me via txt, email or this site). If you arrive, I will either come out and wave you in, or please have a look through the door to see if it's busy. 20.01.2022 When buying a pair of ugh boots or slippers, it's important that they fit very snuggly to begin with. Here is a photo of just how much wool there is inside a pair of ugh boots.

19.01.2022 This teddy bear was made from one of our shieepskins over 30 years. He had a hard life over the years - his ear almost fell off and he spent over a decade gathering dust in a corner of the office. But last week one of our customers, Miranda Gardner, who makes and repairs dolls and teddy bears at Olive and Ivy, gave him some TLC, and now this teddy is back at work in the 'kiddies corner' at the tannery and ready to play with any young kids trying on boots. Or big kids too! lol

19.01.2022 Mother's Day is coming! This year, with so many mums working from home or in isolation, it's more important than ever that eveyone has new warm and comfy ugh boots and slippers to get us through winter and beyond. Anyone that has been to the tannery knows we are "passionate" about finding the perfect-fitting boots or slippers for every customer. Each pair of boots is unique and so is everyone's feet! So please - make the present a visit to the tannery for a proper fitting pair of ugh boots, scuffs or slippers :-)

19.01.2022 Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! Especially those that were given new ugh boots or slippers for Father's Day :-) We hope they keep you warm and comfy! If you were given a gift voucher to choose your own size, style and colour, we look forward to your visit over the next few weeks. Traditionally Father's Day is the end of the 'busy season' for Canberra Tannery. Over the next few months we try to get ready for next winter. But this is the best time to visit us, as we have the most stock for you to choose from .

18.01.2022 We make bookmarks in the shape of peppermint gum-leaves out of the leather we use and give them away to our customers (and the people that accompany them:-) over the decades we have probably given away well over 35 000 book marks! here we have some new leather: gold, pewter, green and silver foil that we are thinking of trying on the boots.

17.01.2022 It is a well known fact that chocolate tastes even better when wearing ugh boots :-) We can't all get together with family and friends over Easter like in normal years, but you can give them a gift voucher for a new warm comfy pair of ugh boots. People isolated at home or doing school from home over winter will need them! it's a present that doesn't stop giving after Easter! 16.01.2022 Another truck got bogged in Underwood St after the weekend's rain. Lucky the neighbours have bulldozers to push them out again! 13.01.2022 Normally Canberra Tannery is at the Burrawang Markets in the Southern Highlands over Easter, and it’s a great opportunity to catch up with good friends there. But like everyone, else all Easter plans have been turned upside-down. Canberra Tannery will be open on Easter Saturday morning until about 11.30, though we encourage everyone to avoid Saturdays if possible so we don’t end up with crowds. We can arrange other times over the holidays if needed. Thankyou to everyone that has been so understanding, patient and cooperative. Stay well and stay safe.

10.01.2022 Canberra Tannery needs your help! Please go to the www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au website and click on the Fix My Street link, and request that something is done about Underwood St. it's quite dangerous this morning. Two trucks have already got bogged and my ute slid down the slope out of control. To all our customers, please try to avoid visiting us until the 'road' has dried out. We write to the Fix My Street site but it probably needs more than just one person or business complaining.

10.01.2022 You gotta take care of the sewing-ladies (including my mum! ) so we put a new padded sheepskin cover on the bench at the sewing machines.

08.01.2022 We are happy to know that there is a lot of people whose feet are nice and warm now. But unfortunately, we have had an unprecedented level of demand this last fortnight. As a result, we are currently out of stock in children’s sizes and Mother’s Day sizes (eg women’s 7, 8 and 9 in most styles). In addition, we have also run out of Men’s size 9 in boots. It will take us a few weeks to build up stock again and we have a waiting list stretching out to 4 weeks now. 04.01.2022 We have been making baby booties for over 40 years now, but we have always had them tucked away out of sight on a random shelf for some reason. Now finally we've got proper racks to fully display the booties like they deserve. If you want a present for a baby that is hand-made locally (by Mum no less!) come see us.

04.01.2022 Winter is coming and the days are getting colder and shorter. If your old ugh boots are worn-out - with a hole in the toe or the sticthing undone -they wont keep you warm or comfy. Those flat worn-out soles are a trip hazard! Please come and see us about replacing them asap. And if you have never owned a pair - you don't know what you have been missing ;-) Winters are better with lambskin boots and slippers.

They make great presents. but it's important to get the right fit - and we aim to get the perfect fit if possible. And to do that it's best if the recipient comes in to the tannery. We have online vouchers if you can't get to the tannery yourself, or sell vouchers at the tannery. Each pair of boots and slippers can feel different and we want to match the right pair of boots or slippers to each person's feet if possible. 02.01.2022 The shelves are pretty bare after the Anzac Day and Mother's Day weekends, and there is a pretty long waiting list right now. But this week we are starting to restock the shelves. and we got these little stools for the kiddie-corner, for the youngest customers to try on boots. How cute are they!
