25.01.2022 Meet one of our nurses, Jessica Jordan! Jess a.k.a JJJ came from a wealth of experience working in general practice, emergency department and surgery department. She is part of the CVES core nurse team and is a valuable part of the team who helps and pushes us to be better everyday for our patients. She is a little bit of an OCD with patient records and monitoring (and we are very proud of that and the high standard of care we always strive to provide!!). She is also obse...ssed with plants and salt & vinegar chips Here is JJJ’s bio: Jessica Jordan RVN Jessica has been a qualified veterinary nurse since 2013, after working in general practice for a number of years she made the move to work in emergency and critical care. Jessica has acquired a few pets from working at vet hospitals which include her silver tabby cat Alfie, German shepherd Reggie and her staffy mix Rocky. When not at work Jessica enjoys going on walks with her dogs, doing jigsaw puzzles and caring for her indoor plants.

25.01.2022 This is Simba Simba was presented to our Emergency department with her sister. They both had eaten a string and was seen by Dr Sam. String ingestion in cats can cause an gastrointestinal obstruction. Luckily for her sister, she vomited up and pooped up the string. Simba, however, had the string stuck and causing an obstruction. Simba needed to have a surgery to have the string removed from her stomach as she was vomiting, dehydrated, painful and miserable (see below the str...ing!). After surgery with Dr Vany Luswanto Ang, she was feeling alot better and day 1 post surgery she started eating again! What a trooper but we hope they both will learn their lesson! Be very vigilant with any strings around the house if you have cats. Cats loveee playing with strings but ingestion of strings often can cause obstruction, and what we call a linear foreign body obstruction, which means the patient may need multiple cut to their gastrointestinal tracts to remove the object. Simba is now home to recover and hopefully she is reflecting on her silliness and not eat any foreign body every again! She made her parents so worried but we are all glad she is doing well. #simbathecat #catsandstring #linearforeignbody #gastrointestinalobstruction

25.01.2022 Does this face look familiar? Yes she is our reception extraordinaire, Jess G! Jess G is a ray of sunshine, always coming to shift with a smile, finishing a shift with a smile. She takes on any tasks you throw at her, and always does it well. Her multitasking skill is out of this world, and we don’t know how she does it! Jess understands the stress you experience when your little one is unwell, and is there to assure you that your little one will be taken care of. As amazing... she is as a receptionist, we hope she will be joining our nursing team soon! She is just a great asset to our team. See below Jess’ bio. Jess Griffiths - CCR (Client Care Representative)/ Receptionist As part of the reception team, the ever changing pace, cases and types of fur babies coming through our doors really pushes Jess to do her best. After completing a Certificate II in Animal studies Jess is now looking to pursue a career with animals and so she wants to further those skills and passion with training to become a vet nurse! Jess has her own Rottweiler Cross called Macey and cat called a Tigger, she is very appreciative everyday of being able to go home to them.

20.01.2022 This week we’d like to introduce you to another one of our core nurse team, Caitlin!! Caitlin is our roster queen and is one of our senior nurses who have helped us since CVES was first open. She has a gentle and caring nature and is a hardworker who is always looking out for her team members. She is not only very generous with her patient cuddles, but she also gives the hoomans the best hugs and everything feels okay when Caitlin is around! Here is Caitlin’s bio ... Caitlin Briggs - Certificate IV VN Caitlin is part of our nursing team and roster queen extraordinaire. Her ability to multitask makes her an invaluable member of the CVES family. Caitlin is originally from Canberra and has many fur babies which include Floki, Raspie, Pouncival and Tumblebrutus. She obtained her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at CIT while volunteering at the Veterinary Clinic at the RSPCA. This volunteer position soon led to a full time employment with the RSPCA in 2012. After gaining invaluable experience at the RSPCA, Caitlin came to join the CVES family in 2016 and is an asset to the CVES team.

12.01.2022 Next up on our meet our staff series is.. Cass! Cass has been with CVES since we opened and helped build and grow this hospital. She doesn’t only look after dogs, cats, rabbits and birds, but all range of wildlife from wombats to roos (growing up with a wildlife carer mom, she is a also wildlife carer with extensive experience in all species). Cass is passionate about raising awareness on mental health and she is always there to listen to anyone who has had a bad day/ diff...icult time. Most excitingly, Cass has just adopted a really sick kitten that was brought in as a stray to us, so she needs help naming him!! The options are: Mikan, Emmet, Archie or Oliver Below is Cass’ bio: Cass Caldwell - Certificate IV VN Cass is born and bred in Canberra and has been a vet nurse for almost 15 years after diving in deep at the age of 14, with close to 10 of those in emergency and critical care. She enjoys the fast paced unpredictability that working in emergency has offered and loves the puzzles that Emergency medicine presents almost as much as she loves helping her patients feel safe and at home. Cass is working towards her registration and vet tech specialisation in ECC. In her spare time, with the help of her 3 dogs she can often be found gaming, reading or studying up on the latest ECC literature (especially in one of her passions, like toxicology - the weird things our pets shouldn’t eat but often find a way to!)

01.01.2022 This beautifu boy is Suraj! Suraj was referred to our Emergency Service after he was bitten by a snake . He was first treated at Kippax Vet Hospital and later needed a blood transfusion during his stay with us. Snake envenomation causes clotting problems and sometimes anaemia for several reasons. And guess who saved his life? YES! Jack Sadil did! Because of donors like Jack (and of course amazing vets and nurses from Kippax, CVES and Gungahlin), Suraj is now home with hi...s family!! Donors like yours truly make a difference - they gift the most valuable, priceless gift you can ever give to a family, more time with their fur babies. Suraj had to stay in hospital for many many days and night and he was so brave through it all. We are all so happy for Suraj and his family #snakebite #jacksavessuraj #bloodtransfusion #blooddonors
