10.01.2022 In 2019 Wayne was feeling fit and healthy having just completed a half marathon and was in training for a half ironman triathlon, when he was diagnosed with small bowel (duodenal) cancer. My GP told me that in his 30 years he'd never seen a case of duodenal cancer." While any cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, Wayne was facing a diagnosis of a less common cancer, with little information available about what his cancer experience would involve. He says that the Cancer C...ouncil ‘Rare and Less Common Cancer’ resources would have brought him and his family great comfort at a difficult time. Following surgery and treatment, and with the support of his doctor, Wayne was able to complete his half ironman triathlon just 14 months later. At Cancer Council, we’re here for all Australians affected by cancer, no matter what the diagnosis. If you or someone you know has been affected by a rare or less common cancer, we have resources and information that can help at cancer.org.au or call our information and support service 13 11 20. To learn more about Wayne’s story, visit cancer.org.au.
08.01.2022 Yesterday it was a privilege to hang out with the amazing crew in the ACT, who participated in the Cancer Cruise! All on the same day, across Australia, participants cruised with their respective State and Territory groups, to tackle cancer together. So far they have raised over an incredible $90,000 which will go towards cancer research. A HUGE THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS to everyone involved!
