16.01.2022 Looking forward to this! It’s always great to hear about new kids’ books coming out by local authors and illustrators. More spots have just been made available for anyone interested!

15.01.2022 Fantasy Challenge: favourite childhood fantasy books. #fantasychallengeaugust Apart from the obvious ones like The Narnia Chronicles, The Magic Faraway Tree, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wizard of Oz and The Secret Garden, I also loved this Australia time slip novel Playing Beatie Bow by Ruth Park. I wonder if it’s known outside Australia? Or if people know about Ruth Park, one of the most famous early Australian authors?

15.01.2022 Come on Australia, we need to do better! Many of our wildlife friends are already extinct and endangered. There is no worrying about it later, the time to protect nature, wildlife & their habitat with stringee nature laws is now! ... We can’t go back in time but we can protect what animals are left for their future! @ausconservation @sussanleymp @scottmorrisonmp #beforeitsgone #plushieprotest

14.01.2022 Fantastic way to kick off CBCA Book Week celebrations. Must also give a shout-out to all the teacher-librarians and schools who have worked so hard to make it happen for their students despite the impact of COVID and subsequent postponement of this event. Amazing achievement with having to fit so much into an already busy term. Also to Children's Book Council of Australia for rescheduling rather than cancelling. It’s so important to get kids excited about books and read...ing! Last but not least to Speakers Ink for being so brilliant in rescheduling all the school visits this year, sometimes more than once. You all deserve a medal! Look forward to the next couple of weeks New Frontier Publishing Australia The Children's Book Council of Australia - QLD Branch See more

14.01.2022 I had the best fun in this interview with Michelle Worthington at Share Your Story on the series for kids ‘Ask an Author.’ How cool are these bat effects - check out the video to see them in action !! https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=6IveNBkSVQM

14.01.2022 Toffee is still trying to sneak her way into my gear for my upcoming author school visits for CBCA Book Week.

13.01.2022 In celebration of Nature Book Week, head to The Wilderness Society FB page for your chance to win all ten shortlisted titles in the Environment Award for Children’s Literature 2020, including my Eco Rangers: Microbat Mayhem title! New Frontier Publishing Australia

12.01.2022 Fantasy Challenge August: Favourite fantasy sub-genre! #fantasychallengeaugust My favourite fantasy sub-genre is portal fantasy. As a child I loved stories where kids travelled from the real world into a fantasy one. It also fuelled my imagination as I imagined myself moving into these worlds.... I still love it and still do it! My WIP is portal fantasy, with a touch of immersion fantasy. The story was first inspired by all the ‘secret entrances’ I imagined visiting cave systems on our lap of Australia. This one at Lake Cave, Margaret River, features in my story! What’s your favourite fantasy sub-genre? See more

10.01.2022 Fantasy Challenge: favourite friendships #fantasychallengeaugust Friendships are so important in story. Just like in real life friends in story help the main character grow emotionally as well as progress towards their goals, and they have their own story arcs too. I love fantasy friendships like Sebastian and the luck dragon, Sam and Frodo, Dorothy and her companions in Oz. In my WIP there is a strong friendship between Val and Taekwondo partner Yon. They know each other inside out, including their strengths, flaws, fears and hopes. There will also be other important friendships developing along the way! What’s your favourite story friendship?

07.01.2022 With authors and illustrators losing the opportunity to promote their books and connect with their readers through the usual bookshop events, writing festivals, school visits etc with COVID restrictions The Book Muse came up with this fabulous initiative to share some info about new books through Isolation Publicity. Proud to be the final interviewee of this great series of interviews. Check it out: https://ashleighmeikle.com.au//isolation-publicity-with-ca

07.01.2022 Thanks to Kesta at The Story Corner for this beautiful reading and sneak peek into the Eco Rangers series. Go check it out and leave a comment to go in the book prize draw! https://kestafleming.com/eco-rangers-pelican-in-peril-by-c/

06.01.2022 Um, spot the soft toy! It seems Toffee the bearded dragon is determined to come to my author school visits this month! Found in my school tub. Well, CBCA Book Week’s theme is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds after all

05.01.2022 Some good news out of COVID: I had the absolute pleasure last week of being in attendance via Zoom at the book giving assembly at Majella Catholic Primary in WA as a role model for Books in Homes. It was a privilege to talk to the excited kids, and share the joy to be found through books and writing. The program and its sponsors do amazing work, as do the schools who support it!! To learn more about this amazing program you can subscribe to the newsletter

05.01.2022 Brilliant reading program concept. Super proud Eco Rangers: Wildfire Rescue is on the map! About the program: Looking for a new Reading Scheme?...Our 2019 Reading Road maps have already sold more in 2 months than over the whole of last year. There is still time to run the scheme in your school this year - find out more at www.ukreadingroadmap.org ... We are delighted that the Reading Road Map has just been independently evaluated by the Open University which describes it as a rich resource of high quality texts shown to develop children’s reading for pleasure and improve reading levels. 04.01.2022 I love Swell Sculpture Festival and I go every year to view the amazing artwork! of course, after recently having my Eco Rangers: Wildfire Rescue published this one touched my heart most representing heroes of the Australian bushfire crisis. The work, titled Local Heroes, is also a very clever three-sided construction that lit up beautifully at night.... ‘’heroes of the civilian population in assisting the wildlife and acknowledging the wildlife that perished’’ See more

04.01.2022 Did you know that when you purchase Eco Rangers, and the other shortlisted environmentally-themed books, through Gleebooks 10% of profits go back to The Wilderness Society to help protect our environment. How good is that?!

03.01.2022 Fantasy Challenge August: important names. #fantasychallengeaugust I give a lot of thought to names in my books. In my WIP two of my most important characters are named after the characters in Norse mythology. Main character Val comes from the Valkyrie, first represented in Icelandic poetry as those who choose who lives and dies in battle. Val’s mentor Thea, Comes from Pythia, Oracle of Delphi in Greek mythology.... How do you come up with your character names?

02.01.2022 Did you catch the ‘taste and see’ book intro and chapter reading of Eco Rangers: Pelican in Peril on the fabulous The Story Corner? If not, head here and leave a comment to go in the draw to win the book prize!! https://kestafleming.com/eco-rangers-pelican-in-peril-by-c/
