24.01.2022 Welcome to C&K Rosalie Kindy Art Show! The children and teacher/educators were so proud to show our families all the diverse, creative work that our children have created during the year and displayed so beautifully in our kindy rooms. Art can be one of the first ways for children to express their ideas - they're drawing what is important to them. You can really see the children's personalities through their creations. We've also tried lots of different techniques/tools, e...xperimented with mark-making and learned about lots of different artists and how they approached art. Kat says: "I love watching the pride they take in their work - when they think they can't do something and then they accomplish something beautiful. That's what so special about creating art with children." We're enrolling now for 2021 and beyond - we'd love to hear from you and your family www.candk.asn.au/rosalie

23.01.2022 Floral Friday at C&K Banyo Station Childcare Centre is all about celebrating Torres Strait culture, stories and music This year the children have been on a journey of learning about the Torres Strait Islands, and have enjoyed immersing themselves in the wonderful culture, guided by Cecelia from Cultural Inclusions. In September we began to celebrate Floral Friday ~ we encourage the children and families to wear something floral, and embrace the TSI culture by cracking and ...tasting coconuts, cooking coconut rice with Cecelia, plus watching and dancing to traditional TSI music! We had our talented educator paint some beautiful flowers and coconuts on the children’s arms, and have learnt some of the language. We now know that the Torres Strait Islands are surrounded by sea, so sea creatures play a significant part in their cultural traditions. The kindy children enjoyed drawing sea creatures from pictures. Thank you Cecelia for your special visits! #LoveCandK #LearningThroughPlay #TorresStraitIslandCulture #CulturalInclusions #NAIDOC2020 #alwayswasalwayswillbe

22.01.2022 Learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures is really important to us at Camira Kindy, and NAIDOC week, when we celebrated the culture of Australia's First Peoples through art stories, song and discussion, was no exception. We talked about how the Yuggera, Jagera and Urarapul people have cared for the land we live on for over 60,000 years and talked about what this all means to us and how we might care for the land now The children had wonderful ideas ...and words, so we wrote our own Acknowledgment of Country We're very proud of how we embed Indigenous culture #LovCandK #CamiraKindy #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC2020

21.01.2022 We love Celebrating NAIDOC Week together at C&K! The children of C&K Coorparoo Community Kindergarten celebrated NAIDOC week by exploring the diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal peoples, the oldest continuing culture on the planet We looked at the artwork of Tyrown Waigana and the story it showed us of connection to country ... We remembered the importance of the Aboriginal flag, with children choosing to create this flag and take it home to hang up there We found sticks to create dot paintings with, shared yarns, acknowledgments, symbols, books, and watched a story about bush tucker and tracking Our Dadirri has opened our eyes, ears, and hearts to nature around us We take these experiences home in our hearts. At C&K QUT Kelvin Grove Childcare Centre we created a storyline of the history of NAIDOC Week with a snake pathway The children follow this pathway as they enter the centre, and families have been joining them in reading about the rich history of NAIDOC Week. We have also been exploring the theme Always Was Always Will Be and focused on a sense of belonging to place and connection to country At C&K Arana Hills kindy, we used Joanne's Weave and Splice cards to promote some cultural conversations with the parents and our community and presented these to get families thinking and sharing. We researched and watched recordings of aboriginal artists creating their work and then worked on a group project to create our own indigenous inspired artwork At C&K Palm Beach Community kindy we had a range of Indigenous themed play experiences. These included "desert sand" trays with examples of Aboriginal art as a stimulus for creating Aboriginal symbols in the sand and painting experiences. We had interactive displays of aboriginal doll/figures, books, and puzzles and had a collection of natural materials, from land and sea which we used to design and construct interesting patterns and imagery We also had a planned incursion during this week’s celebration which was presented by Ken, a Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Aboriginal Education Officer. We created a yarning circle, and Ken shared his detailed knowledge of culture with the children with the help of traditional weapons, ochre, Dreamtime stories, visual aids, and animals At C&K Caboolture Community Kindergarten & Preschool we celebrated NAIDOC week by reading the story of Warnayarra, the Rainbow Snake We drew a large snake on our fence and placed colourful handprints on it to resemble the rainbow snake. This also represents the carpet snake from which Caboolture is named (Kabul-tureplace of the carpet snake)

14.01.2022 Celebrating NAIDOC Week at C&K Mt Gravatt Childcare and C&K Arlington Drive Childcare centres. Every day at C&K Mount Gravatt West Childcare Centre, we pay respect to our elders, past and present, through telling stories and acknowledging our beautiful country During NAIDOC Week we read dreamtime stories such as 'The rainbow serpent' and 'How the birds got their colours' along with stories about the life of the traditional custodians of Uluru.... We learned about gathering bush tucker, herbs, seeds, and leaves and carry a special dish made from the bark of a tree on our heads. We were surprised that it could be used not only for carrying, but also for grinding seeds to flour to make bread and other dishes. We learned about cave painting where First Nations artists painted handprints as part of a dreamtime story and decided to create our own art. We particularly loved doing dot painting At C&K Arlington Drive Childcare Centre, we explored, investigated, and created to embed the theme 'Always was, always will be' Our younger friends learned about different symbols used by our First Nations people and decided to re-create some of these symbols ourselves In our 3-5 space, we decided to include a fallen branch bark, and leaf painting using traditional earthy colours, in our daily acknowledgment. We put seeds and leaves into water to represent the Indigenous people's love of the sea and looked at Indigenous dances and noticed that the moves were like animal movements We learned so much during NAIDOC Week and now have a deeper respect and understanding of the culture of First Nations Peoples' culture

02.01.2022 Welcome back to our #CandKcollab friend Matilda, who is joining us to celebrate and share some of her special moments at kindy this year ~ in the lead up to her last day at C&K and her journey to school If you ask Matilda what her favourite thing to do at kindy is, she will say "CRAFT", every time! Matilda is forever bringing home her masterpieces and loves using, and donating, the recycled loose parts. Matilda enjoys exploring the outside play area in the mornings, and w...ill often head for the swing or the slide, which allows for an easy farewell to her Mum! Matilda's parents love that every morning on arrival at kindy, Matilda is encouraged to write/trace her name. In Term 2, it was just her first name, then in Term 3 & 4, her surname was added. Matilda has a growing sense of independence and loves learning self help skills. She has become very independent and likes to do things for herself. She loves carrying her own bag, and once she arrives at kindy, Matilda is encouraged to put her lunchbox in the fridge, water bottle in the designated box, and bag in her locker. We are excited to share more of Matilda's #MyLastDay journey as we get close to farewelling her, and lots more of our kindy friends to school!
