Plus 1, Power of 2 and Perform with Times Tables work in the same way as Hornet, Word Wasp and Toe by Toe - 3 consecutive ticks (correct answers) and then move on. Number sense is to mathematics like phonemic awareness is to reading. Strong number sense helps build a foundation for mathematical understanding, and is necessary to compute and solve more complex problems in the upper years. I often suggest keeping a weekly schedule and a rewards chart to help with motivation throughout the week. Since starting with this chart, Mr D hasn't skipped a beat. Alongside the weekly schedule, this SUPER clever mum has introduced 'TUTOR TREATS' as an extra incentive. CDK Mum: "Every time D sits down and does a tutoring session with me (and brings... a good attitude) he gets to pick one treat. His whole attitude has changed and he's asking to do homework." 04.01.2022 Trying to break a child's habit of GUESSING a word when reading is one of my toughest jobs. Looking at a picture, or the first sound, and guessing is NOT reading.
