19.01.2022 We had our wonderful Shamus doing some therapy work. He is beyond amazing and would pick out who he needed to be with the most. The results that came from today speak volumes , Shamus managed to settle an entire class, spent his time holding different children, applying pressures and all round doing his job with excellence. ... Thank you Shamus .

12.01.2022 Three dogs chilling out after a very long day. For our clients with a disability.. NEVER let your disability define you, for our clients who have children with disabilities, remember you need to take care of yourself too, or you wont be able to function. We've just had the are you ok day, which is a brilliant initiative. Also consider that you or the kids arent the ones which need to change if some people let you down. You can do no more than your best... if thats not good ...enough, well the fault isnt with you. The beauty of this job is seeing people grow, its truely a privilege. We have all had people let us down, play us false, or hurt us. Unfortunately that is part of life... it does not define you and should never be part of how you see yourself.. you cannot control others behaviour.. and a big secret... they cant control yours unless you let them.. Be kind to yourself xx

12.01.2022 Gavin on the job! Gavin was able to help settle his person within seconds when needed. Absolutley fantastic!

10.01.2022 Summer (golden retriever) and Poppett (GSD) having their first sessions in the supermarket. Both did very well and together with Errol the irish terrier then went and worked to help a reactive dog learn it doesn't need to react. Its so important that therapy and Assistance dogs learn to stay focused no matter what is happening in their environment.

10.01.2022 Two of the greyhound girls in our program We have stated before how important the bond is, the training part is easy, the vital ingredient is that the he dog is bonded to the person they are to work with. This week I've assessed dogs for their suitability for assistance dog training. In several cases the bond beween the dog and handler is so strong that they are already performing at least the minimum of the three functions required by the WA Government. All they need is th...e basic obedience to insure that they can function in a public access setting. There are only a few factors which will guarantee a failure in an assessment. Aggression towards a person or a dog.. is an instant fail. Lack of control, lack of focus on the handler will also lead to a failure. Contrary to what many organisations put forward, a well behaved and obedient dog, which is bonded to their handler is likely to pass, if not a PAT, then definitely a BOA. Both of which will give your dog public access rights.

08.01.2022 We had such a beautiful message about our Greyhound Julie. Julie used to be owned by a syndicate. She was always up for a cuddle with the boys when they saw her, they loved to watch her race. When julies racing career came to an end she found a home with us. Julie has always been amazing and has a wonderful personality, she is now in training to look after her little person. Its wonderful to hear from people who once were involved with our dogs. Thanks Travis for your message !

06.01.2022 Some news i got this week which absolutely turns my stomach... Charities, who take donations from the general public, on the basis that they are supplying dogs ...to people with a disability are charging the NDIS up to $75,000.00 to supply the dog to the person with a disability. These organisations get MILLIONS per year from the general public, based on the fact people believe they are helping to get someone a dog which will improve their quality of life... then they, the charity, submit a bill to the NDIS for huge amounts of dollars... this is a charity??? Seriously the Fedral government needs to look into this... many people rely on the NDIS to get the services they need..... if Charities are then double dipping, guess why its so hard to get NDIS funding... How is it remotely reasonable that a charity can charge so much for a dog which has already been paid for by donations from the general public???

05.01.2022 Everyone meet Milly, one of our biggest dogs working along side some of our littlest people during their OT visit. A perfect fit in her new home! Did you know assistance dogs come in all different sizes and breeds? Pretty cool huh

05.01.2022 I get very concerned about the misinformation which is put out about assistance dogs. In the photo a really sweet GSD girl has been sent to us for training from Victoria... it was a lot cheaper inclusive of the flights to have the dog sent here to do her training. Added to that, i spoke to a young lady in Queensland who has not even been given the most basic information on how to work with an alert.. Training an assistance dog has significant responsibilities... its not a ...job... its not about geting a dog to do an action, its about a bond and creating a partnership, between the dog and the person they are assisting. They need to be a team, all training should be geared towards them being a team... a trainer of assistance dogs needs to fully comprehend that its a very, very serious matter.... the clients life may well depend upon the trainer making sure that the client and the dog are a team. Any fool can teach a dog to respond to cues... the reality for assistance dogs is that they need to do it for real, when its needed and everytime its needed, cues or not

04.01.2022 Tonight Shamus is at a sleepover, while at this house he suddenly displayed a different behaviour. He went up and down the stairs numerous times, he had picked up on the fact that the child who lives there was having a seizure. Shamus knew right away and once near her, held her down. The special thing about Shamus is how intune he is with everyone, this is not his family, nor his normal place to be and he still had this child's back. ... Well done Shamus and thank you for all you do. *seizure under control before photo taken.

03.01.2022 With the temperature to get to 36 in perth on friday there will be no training at Caversham tomorrow. Training will be on again the following Wednesday

01.01.2022 This is Hudson, who is currently in a down and wait position. Hudson can do this for any length of time, unseen and unheard. In this case, hudson was at a training day doing his thing !
