25.01.2022 CONCRETE POUR THURSDAY MORNING Woollams have advised that on Thursday morning they will be doing a concrete pour starting at 5am that will probably not finish until around 10am. This means there may be concrete trucks in the line in the drive-through area during drop-off time. They will have a spotter out when the trucks are leaving, so hopefully there won’t be any issues.

24.01.2022 TODAY'S COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENT Many of you would now be aware of a number of locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the Greater Brisbane area. As a result, the Premier has today announced that Greater Brisbane will be entering a 3-day lockdown, from 5 pm tonight until 5 pm Thursday 1 April for residents in the local government areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton, Logan and Redlands. Anyone who has been in these areas since Saturday 20 March is required to stay at home for the ...lockdown period. The Queensland Health website has up-to-date information on the 3-day lockdown, including all restrictions, maps of affected areas and frequently asked questions. For the rest of Queensland, masks should be worn while indoors, except at home. Protocols surrounding masks at schools are as follows: * Students are not required to wear masks whilst at school. * Staff are not required to wear masks when with students. * Parents / Caregivers and any other visitors to school are required to wear a mask when indoors on school grounds (ie. When entering the office or a classroom) As always, please do not enter school grounds if you are showing any symptoms of illness and please do not send your children to school if they are unwell. Learning Journeys tomorrow will proceed as planned. Each class is undertaking their own activities for this event. For some this is a parent invitation event, for others it is a school only event. Those classes who have opened their doors to parents / caregivers to attend have sent home parent invitations already. If you are attending a Learning Journey tomorrow, you will be required to wear a mask if indoors and we ask that you maintain social distancing by remaining at least 1.5m from others at all times. Please provide your own mask if required. Furthermore, plans for the Easter Bonnet Parade on Wednesday at 9am on the oval, remain unchanged. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend this event provided that they maintain social distancing. We appreciate your support and understanding. Sincerely Angie Kelly

08.01.2022 ACTING PRINCIPAL ROLE Hi everyone, I am writing to let you know that after a selection process, Mrs Katie Cannell has been chosen to be our Acting Principal from 7 September to 30 October. I know you will all join me in making her feel very welcome! I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been so friendly and supportive during the short time I was Acting Principal. I will now continue on with my role of Head of Curriculum in our wonderful school.... Thanks so much, Denise Veenstra A letter from Mrs Cannell to the Cannonvale School community: At the end of week 7, I accepted the offer of Acting Principal at your wonderful school knowing that Cannonvale State School has a reputation as an amazing learning environment. To Cannonvale State School I bring my strong curriculum knowledge, love of learning and innovating with teaching and learning. My educational expertise has grown through experience as Principal in several primary schools across North Queensland over the last 10 years including Hayman Island State School, Gumlu State School, Merinda State School, Bowen State School, Ayr State School and most recently Home Hill State School. My most recent work also included working for Regional Office with a focus on building capability of beginning principals as well as developing a birth to high school plan for the Burdekin District. I am a great advocate of inquiry and age-appropriate teaching and learning. I would like to share these few key messages with you: I am ‘acting’ only in name. I will be there to make the hard decisions and to celebrate our achievements. I believe in keeping all things simple, transparent and in relationships I value honesty. I believe that the most important part of any school is the people. So getting to know each of you your goals/hopes/plans for your children, your passions in education, what you value, where you want your child to be or go in the future that will be my focus. I am a ‘glass half full’ person and look forward to working with you. Kind Regards, Katie Cannell Acting Principal

Senior Tummy Rumbler (Yrs 3 - 6) - Wed Dec 2 Two very noble and worthwhile activities: 1. Class Fundraiser Help your child begin to think like a global citizen and be part of changing the future of children in low education and famine stricken countries by bringing a donation to school - the amount is completely up to you - even a gold coin donation would help! The money raised will be sent to Sunrise Nursery and Primary School in Uganda. 2. Tummy Rumble Challenge We are challenging students to stop eating for just a little while to experience a tiny glimpse of what some children live through every day. This is not compulsory but is an excellent way for students to think about how blessed we are in Australia to have fresh food, clean water and education readily available to us. Students in Prep & Yr 1 will have the chance to miss their first fruit break. Students in Yrs 2 - 6 will have the challenge of fasting through their first break.
