24.01.2022 Normally at this time of year we would be encouraging you to stay safe if youre hitting the road. This year the message is very simple. Stay safe. Stay home. Just because you cant hit the road doesnt mean you need to miss out on your favourite (or really annoying) road trip games.
24.01.2022 Dont forget to wind your clocks back this Saturday night!

24.01.2022 Today marks the official end to the most devastating bush fire season in the states history. Firefighters have responded to more than 11,400 bush and grass fir...es that have burnt more than 5.5 million hectares, the equivalent of 6.2% of the state. 2,448 homes were destroyed however more than 14,400 were saved. Most tragically 25 lives were lost including those of three NSW RFS volunteers and 3 US aerial firefighters. The response of emergency services and the community over these months has been nothing short of amazing.

20.01.2022 Communities across the country will today pause and remember all those around the world who have lost their lives during conflict. Please join us at 11:00am for... a minute of silence to remember. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.
20.01.2022 This National Volunteer Week Commissioner Rob Rogers thanks NSW RFS volunteers for their dedication and commitment during the past fire season and to the community, for their support and generosity towards our volunteers.
19.01.2022 Canobolas Zone is no 10 on the map and we have a Very High Fire Danger Rating for Friday 20th March. Fire permits have been suspended.
19.01.2022 Hazard Reduction Whilst the Fire Season of 2019/20 still fresh in our minds the upcoming fire season draws closer and whilst locally we escaped the damaging campaign fires suffered by many Districts across the State we, more than ever, need to continue our locally developed culture of reducing the fire risk through selective low intensity hazard reduction burning. The first burn will be carried out Tuesday 21 April and is called Kinross East it will burn West of Emu Swamp Cr...eek and East of Strathnook Lane area North of Kinross Forest. The weather conditions are forecast to be mild with a gentle westerly influence that will see the smoke progress east across the Lewis Ponds, Gowan & Freemantle areas for much of the day.
17.01.2022 Orange Rural Fire Brigade has been working towards completing the completion of improvements to their circa 1994 Station. The team has taken advantage of the Brigade Donations Fund Grant and brought a modern feel to their operational base. Fantastic work by the Orange RFB team
16.01.2022 What can we say but "THANKYOU". The great teams at Worley, UCA and Newcrest working "Safely" together have donated generously to Canobolas Zone, it is very much appreciated. Well done on your safety record! For every 10 hours incident/accident free Worley are donating a $1 to NSWRFS Canobolas Zone! UCA - partner in Moly (molybdenum) Plant Initiative is going to match it! Now, Newcrest are matching both the Worley and UCA Donation - which will equal $4 for every 10 hours incident/accident free!

12.01.2022 It’s been such a challenging year. Last New Year, our firefighters were working hard to save lives and protect our community. This New Year, we thank the incredible health and frontline workers doing the same tonight. However and wherever you’re seeing in 2021, stay safe. #nswrfs
11.01.2022 March/Clergate Brigade showing off the Brigade Station garden. The best kept station in Canobolas Zone and probably the state! Keep up the good work everyone.

08.01.2022 PERMITS As from the 1st October a permit is required for burning off. If you require a permit to burn over weekends then you should contact your local permit officer the week prior to allow time for the permit officer to undertake inspection and process the permit. ... Many of our permit officers work full time and cannot attend your property until after 5pm to undertake the inspection. As this is the case please understand that a permit may not be issued for the weekend if you call on the Friday morning or afternoon. Once you have that permit you must advise the Fire Control Centre via phone or complete the burn notification form on NSW RFS website https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-inform//burn-notifications. You must also give 24hours notice to your neighbours. We thank you for your understanding.
08.01.2022 Millthorpe Brigade with a timely message after attending a house fire. Fire call: Structure Just after 8pm tonight, Millthorpe Brigade, along with Spring Hill Brigade, Blayney RFS brigade, and Blayney Fire and Rescue, were called to a house fire. No one was home at the time of fire. ... We gained access to the house and set up a positive pressure ventilation (PPV) fan, to clear the smoke from the house to allow us to enter the house without breathing apparatus. The fire was largely contained to a bedroom. The bed and bedding was alight, with the fire travelling into the wall and up into the ceiling. You can see on the underside of the bed a dark/black area, which appears to be where the fire started, and a power board next to the bed. A mobile phone charger was plugged into the charger, but no mobile phone was connected. It is likely that the tip of the phone charger, while still plugged into the power but not into a phone, had become hot enough to start a fire. This is a reminder, when you are not charging your phone, please turn off and unplug your charger.

06.01.2022 Blown Away by Donations During the last horrific Fire Season we were inundated with donations by local businesses, organisations, groups and individuals. The donations came in all shapes and sizes from goods, food, cleaning and hygiene products to cash funds. Many strike Team deployments made good use of the snack foods, Bottled Water, Hand Sanitiser, facial wipes etc for months as they were deployed across the state to various fires.... Monetary Donations were received as well and the largest of which came in from the Orange Art Society where the group had set a target of some $8,000 and set about gathering donated Art Works from their members to Auction at a Gala Event held on 22 February. The Orange Art Society were keen to have the funds expended on a worthwhile Equipment project and the Senior Officers elected to make Blowers the priority as these can be used for a variety of tasks from offensive fire work to Back Burning and HR tasks. The Auction, in fact, raised close to $15,000 and we have been able to add the amount with other donations to realise a purchase of Thirty (30) Blowers which will soon be distributed to some of our Extreme and Very High Risk Brigades. President of the Orange Art Society Mr David Mason was on hand to pick up the Blowers where three local suppliers in Cowra, Blayney and Orange supplied 10 units each. This is another way that local donations were expended in a way to push business through local stores who have been feeling the effects of a long drought and slow business. How fantastic that the RFS has been the benefactor of such significant local support and also fantastic that we can spend that money with local businesses who in turn can provide tools to local volunteers. #winwin #blownaway #orangeartsociety
05.01.2022 Welcome Home Springsides Canter Today marks the return of the Springside 7 tanker home to Canobolas Zone after a very long tour of duty which included multiple Firegrounds across the State during this past disastrous Summer. Springside 7, along with Towac 7 and North West 9 were deployed in early September 2019 to assist in the Northern Tablelands area at fires like Tenterfields Long Gully Road and the Bees Nest Fire between Armidale and Dorrigo. ... Since then this Tanker has been used day and night by all sorts of crews including interstate and New Zealand firefighters at fires near Kempsey, Walcha, Tamworth, Merriwa, Rylstone before being transported South to Cooma and the Snowy Mountains area. Springside 7 has enjoyed a decent refurbishment that not only entailed a mechanical service and repair but also bodywork that replaced heat damaged components and panel repairs to effected body parts. She will soon be transferred to a new Brigade as Springside recently took delivery of a new NPR Isuzu Cat 7. Whilst the North West 9 tanker was returned some time ago due to a pumpset failure, Canobolas Zone still eagerly await the return of Towac 7 which has been away since September 19 also and Blayney 9 which was deployed to the eastern section of the Green Wattle Creek fire in December 19. Rivers 7 is also being prepped for a return to service after seeing duty at the Snowy Valley fire emergency around Batlow, Tumut and Adaminiby. All of the above tankers are at a local mechanical repairs workshop in Cudal. Big thanks to Geoff Olde & Gordon Visman for travelling to Sydney today to bring her home.
04.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE Local tenders invited for construction of RFS Facility at Cowra Airport 21 December 2020... Local businesses and tradespeople are invited to tender for construction of the new NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Area Western Command Facility at Cowra Airport. The facility will help the Western Area Command provide an even higher level of emergency service to the community. NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) Area Commander, Chief Superintendent Tim Butcher said this followed Cowra Shire Council’s development consent in November. The Facility will include the Area Command headquarters, a new station for the Waugoola Brigade and an airbase to manage district air operations, he said. It is great to see the process underway and get one step closer to having this new facility for the local community and volunteer firefighters. Not only will the new Area Command facility house the team charged with supporting our Districts, the broader facility will also assist local firefighters on the ground and air to provide increased fire protection to the local community. Local businesses and tradespeople are invited to meet with the NSW Government pre-approved Tenderers to find out more about potential local involvement in this project. An information session will be held at the RFS Waugoola Brigade Station at Cowra Airport at 3:30pm on 18 January 2021. The successful tenderer is expected to be announced in March 2021 and the new facility fully operational by December 2021. For more information please visit: www.cowra.nsw.gov.au

A thank you must also go to our RFS Staff, Canobolas Zone and all Regions/Zones/Districts for the endless days and nights, many away from your families. ... Our thanks to you all cannot be measured. Remember to look out for each other, talk with friends, family and fellow members and if you need to reach out to CISS. 1800 049 933
03.01.2022 VALE - Captain Lino Mastronardi It is with deep regret that on Monday we will farewell our enigmatic Borenore RFB Captain Lino Mastronardi who sadly passed away earlier this week. Lino was a practical and problem solving Captain who took the reins of the Borenore Brigade in 2018 after spending the previous 10 years as Senior Deputy and Deputy Captain. He was well respected by his Brigade peers and has had a significant influence in the operational capability of the Brigade in... recent years. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions Linos Funeral is invitation only. However, any member who wishes to be part of the RFS Guard of Honour is asked to assemble outside the St Josephs Church corner of Byng and Hill Streets Orange 11.30am Monday wearing clean Yellow/Blues. The Guard of Honour will position East along Byng Street toward Sale Street and will follow Covid rules of 1.5m spacing. Please notify the FCC if you intend to participate in the Guard of Honour.

An email will be sent today to members who have participated in training with the last 12 months (based on data within LSO). The email contains a link:... https://form.jotform.com/NSWRFS/learner-questionnaire-2020 to the questions. The questionnaire needs to be completed by Wednesday 22 June 2020.
