23.01.2022 This year Sydney put on a spectacular show celebrating the beginning of 2021. 23.01.2022 #CANONCHALLENGE - Mirror, Mirror on the Floor This week you have been challenged by community member Ivy Xu to experiment with reflections. "The challenge is to find a smooth reflective surface or still body of water and to have a little fun! With COVID restrictions, it can be very frustrating when you cant venture off to far away places. ... Sometimes, you dont have to go far to explore new perspectives. All you have to do is lower your camera down to ground level and you get a whole different angle, sometimes something magical." Post your entries in the comments below!

23.01.2022 Last week we travelled back in time with Stephen Finkel Photography's #CanonChallenge - The Monochrome Challenge. "Thank you, Canon community for showing us your skills capturing the world around you in Monochrome. This technique gives you another way to tell your stories with your images. This challenge may be over, but I encourage you keep using monochrome in creating your photo stories to show a different side to your images. Well done again everyone who shared an image. ...Best regards Stephen." Click through this gallery to check out Stephen's top picks and find out what made these shots stand out.

20.01.2022 #CanonChallenge - 'The Monochrome Challenge' This weeks Canon Challenge comes from community member Stephen Finkel Photography who has challenged to create a moody monochrome image with a hint of drama or mystery. "Let‘s turn back the clock, to when photography was shot in monochrome. Using the picture styles on your camera, set your picture profile to monochrome - This way you can see the results right on the back of the camera. ... Go and discover a new way to tell your stories as you turn the world into monochrome. Using monochrome you can create a mood and drama which is much harder to create in a colour image. Your challenge is create a monochrome image that's moody or has a hint of drama or mystery in it." Shot on a Canon EOS 5Ds and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM ISO 100 | f/5.6 |1/1000s | 400mm Share your photos in the comments below, and be sure to include the camera and shot settings! :)

14.01.2022 Photography has the power to: transcend culture and geography; to make audiences stop, think, and ask questions; and to tell a story. Each year, World Press Photo champions the power of photojournalism by raising public awareness and driving discussions about important issues and moments they have captured that have defined our society in the past year. At Canon, were committed to supporting, servicing and backing press photographers - whether they are based in Australia or... overseas - to capture these pivotal moments. This year we are proud to be a generous supporter of The State Library of New South Wales to bring the worlds best photojournalism to Australians in even the most challenging of circumstances. Be sure to click through this gallery to get a taste of the incredible stories on display. 13.01.2022 Ben Kirk came across this hidden gem after hiking in the wrong direction. Shot on the #EOS5DMarkIII. We woke early in the darkness and drove out to Compatch, where we hiked completely the wrong way, after finding my bearings we got to this hill, the light exploded, the fog rolled in and the magic unfolded! We sat here all morning drinking coffee and enjoying the meadows in complete silence with not another single soul in sight.... Shot on the EOS 5D Mark III and EF 17-40mm f/4L USM. ISO 100 : F/6.3 : 1/2000

12.01.2022 #CanonChallenge - 'Up Close and Personal' The end of the year is a great time for self reflection, so this weeks challenge will help you do just that! 2020 Red Straps Cadet Nicholas Ahrens has challenged you to get in front of the camera for a change to capture a self portrait. Taking self-portraits allows photographers to express who they are as artists. They are the form in which many artists have come to be remembered, offering insights into their lives, surroundings, a...nd even their state of mind. What is left out of frame can be just as important as what you leave in. One way to get creative with self-portraiture is to take a close-up of a particular feature. For example, focus on just the eyes or mouth. By leaving some of your face or body out of the frame, the viewer’s eyes will be allowed to appreciate the smaller details of a larger being. Be sure to submit your images in the comments below, and don't forget to include your shot and gear details.

12.01.2022 #CANONCHALLENGE - NATURE UP CLOSE This week you have been challenged by community member Paul V Harrison to get up close and macro with nature. "There is incredible beauty in the details of Australian fauna and flora and I love sharing the macro view of these. So my challenge is to find and share a close up or macro photo of some remarkable nature that you are surrounded by." ... Be sure to enter in the comments below for your chance to be featured! 07.01.2022 #CANONCHALLENGE - As the weathers warming up we are sure many of you are eager to head to the beach and capture some shots of our beautiful Australian coastline. So this weeks Canon Challenge comes from community member Cru Scanlan - Photography - Slow Shutter Speed Seascape Photography I personally love to use slow shutter speeds to capture the water flow of waves as they crash against the shore. It helps to create a sense of motion in the image and simplify the scene of... distracting elements. The key is to find an exposure length that smooths out the texture of the water surface without losing the definition of the waves. Shot on a Canon EOS 80D - ISO 100 | F/18 | 1/5s | 10mm Drop your images in the comments below and be sure to include your shot info and gear!
