25.01.2022 FIRST EVER WOMEN’S 1ST XI MATCH REPORT! Inaugural Women’s 1st XI: Kate Roberts (c) Ellie Bonnett (vc)... Olivia McCreadie Sarah Grummitt Lucy Meagher Emily Arvidsson Molly Pearce Ann Brennan Emma Wood Isabel D’Souza Talaja Davidson Coach: Kevin Roberts Assistant Coach: Ian Grummitt Manager: David Meagher IT’S A TIE - written by Ann Brennan Last week on a warm and blustery afternoon at Hartwell, our very first CCC senior women’s team made its debut against a more experienced Belgrave team and what a game and occasion it was! We took the field first with our inaugural captain Kate having won her first toss. We started well, tying up the openers and keeping the run rate down. The very first wicket taken couldn’t have been more spectacular with Isabel taking a caught and bowled with an amazing one handed catch. All our bowling was tight and fielding great, we kept Belgrave to 5/88 off 20 with Kate taking 2/13 off 4 overs and Isabel, Lucy and Liv all chipping in with a wicket each. Chasing a respectable but gettable target, we had a wobbly start losing 2 wickets quickly but then Ellie and Lucy put their heads down putting on 45 runs before our next wicket was lost. Lucy put on 30 off 41 putting us in a very winnable position. Ellie as one of our leaders played with a cool head and supported the next few batters right to the end, slowly and steadily compiling 33 runs. We paced ourselves well to win this contest, perhaps too well with it all coming down to the last ball! Molly, playing her first ever game for CCC came in with 2 overs to go and together with Ellie took us down to the wire with 2 needed off the last ball-tough ask with the bowler pitching it perfectly. We got the last ball away for the single with the inevitable run out going for the second run, finishing at 6/88. A very exciting finish and a well deserved result for both teams in a game played with great spirit. The team couldn’t have got on the park without our big support crew of coaches, parents and fittingly for 2020 our COVID crew! We were also buoyed by support from people from the club and others involved along the way with our junior girls pathway and our women’s subcommittee. We are back at Hartwell this Sunday and looking forward to another fun afternoon of cricket. #goberries

15.01.2022 CCC AWARED $5000 CRICKET AUSTRALIA GRANT Cricket Australia has awarded CCC a $5000 grant the maximum grant available - to support the development of girls’ cricket within the Canterbury community. The award follows a competitive submission process in which many clubs made applications. Canterbury’s President, Paul Townsend, said, Canterbury is one of the leading clubs in Victoria in its support for and development of girls’ cricket. The grant will enable the Club to cont...inue to grow girls’ cricket in the Canterbury community. Canterbury will use the grant to further expand and enhance the cricket and community experience of girls at CCC. The grant will help us retain the existing cohort of girls, break down barriers that discourage girls from choosing cricket as their sporting preference, and consolidate and create new cricket pathways for girls. The legacy of the program we establish with this grant will be a girls’ cricket pathway from junior blaster to senior women's, with cricket a natural part of the lives of girls and women in our community. Canterbury’s priorities in using the grant will be to: appoint a coach at CCC with experience and capability to lead and mentor girls playing cricket increase the number of girls playing cricket at CCC enable the girls to record and share their cricket experiences using a variety of media conduct open days to showcase girls’ cricket at CCC ensure girls’ cricket is played under the safest conditions during the pandemic. Canterbury’s girls’ cricket program will be led by David Meagher under the guidance of a dedicated girls’ sub-committee, leveraging the views and experiences of the girls themselves and with input from their parents. We aim to make Canterbury Cricket Club the club of choice for girls in our local community and an example of how girls can start, develop and maximise their cricket experience and contribute to the growth of girls’ participation in cricket and sport generally, Paul Townsend said. #goberries

09.01.2022 RETURN TO CRICKET written by Sam Gardiner Cricket came back to Canterbury on a warm spring afternoon in November. It was if the winter months had passed without much of note occurring. Someone pointed out that the whizz-bang electronic scoreboard wasn’t working. Apparently, the shutter, protecting the electronics, couldn’t be raised. Maybe no one told the scoreboard that the lockdown was over....Continue reading

01.01.2022 WEEK 7 WRAP UP! The 1st XI came up against an always so strong North Balwyn side in the Grand Final rematch. We were always behind the 8 ball throughout the game without having enough runs on the board batting first and struggled for early wickets. Jesse Greenwood was the standout with some late power hitting of 42 not out. Jesse also led the bowling with 3/16. In the same fixture in the 2nd XI, a strong selected... Canterbury side flexed their muscles in the race to finals. Ollie Will's century with Harry Crothers big knock combined for a huge 165 run partnership leading us to 2nd place on the ladder. The fast bowling cartel of the Townsend brothers, Andy Hansen and Oliver Lloyd once again defended the total of 211, taking 8 wickets between them. The women's played their first one-dayer for the season after starting off with t20's. They were up against a much more experienced Wyclif team, who chased down our total of 103 with 6 overs left. Lucy Shuttleworth and Isabel D'Souza both held up the top order, both contributing 20 runs each. The 3rd XI fielded one of the strongest sides it has seen in years, and the end result reflected that. Run scoring machine Luke McIntosh continued his form with a 95, successfully chasing down Carnegie's 149 with ease. Wickets were shared between all the bowlers. The 4th XI had an off day with the bat after restricting Thornbury to 148 on a good wicket at Canterbury. A late revival with the bat came from Ryan Revill giving a glimmer of hope but we were never really in the game. #goberries
