25.01.2022 All smiles after today's practice match which our women won 10.5.65 to 0.2.2! An amazing achievement considering this was the first ever game for many of our players. Get in touch with Dane Sheppard at the Canterbury branch and he'll assist you with all of your lending needs. Bendigo Bank has been a long time supporter of ours, so it's important we continue to show them our support in return, just mention you're from the club to let them know we're behind them.... 21.01.2022 Today we remember longtime supporter and sponsor, The Great Man Andrew Ford. A passionate Bluebagger, Fordy came to the club in the mid 90's with his brother in-law Randall Walker. He quickly immersed himself, proudly supporting the Cobras at home and away. Much loved by all who met him, he was always good value to everyone, no matter the situation. Today Andrew Ford's family observed a small family-only funeral.... CFC stats: Footy trips - 2 Games played - 0 RIP Great Man.
21.01.2022 COACHING APPOINTMENT We're thrilled to announce the appointment of Dwayne Stangherlin as the coach of our women's team for season 2021! Dwayne will be a great fit down at the Snake Pit with plenty of coaching experience, taking his teams to finals in the 2017, 2018 & 2019 seasons. He's super keen on the opportunity to take the reigns and enhance the skills of the playing group.... Dwayne is pictured here with 2020 coach Tony Crawford who's unfortunately had to step aside as he chases a career with the MFB. Crawf will still be assisting where possible but can't commit to the year in full, thanks for your efforts this year mate, and we wish you all the best with the new gig. We'll be holding a meet the coach night at some stage next week so everyone can have the chance to meet him in person, details TBC though we'll announce them once confirmed. Welcome to Canterbury, Dwayne, looking forward to a great season together! #canterburycobras #cobrasfooty #cobrasations #ynsa #vafa #vafawomens #yeahthegirls

19.01.2022 2020 is the 100th anniversary of our first ever premiership, back in 1920 when we won the First Division Reporter Competition flag, the senior eastern suburbs competition of the time. The club was extremely popular with locals in 1920. In the lead up to our last home & away game, at home against Mitcham, both teams were in such great form and well supported that they feared a lockout at the sportsground that was then fenced and gated. The game was shifted to the Camberwell ov...al where the Box Hill Reporter paper noted a record crowd of over 2000 in attendance. The Grand Final was played at the Mitcham Oval. We had lost our semi final to Mitcham but as minor premiers had the right to challenge, so the Grand Final was played between the two clubs. We were going for our first flag and Mitcham were aiming for their third in a row. At the last break Mitcham was in front for the first time in the game, ahead by 4 points. The local paper noted in the early stages of the last quarter a fight occurred within the crowd. The lead changed many times during the last quarter and finally with a minute to go, Keating of Canterbury was tripped, resulting in a free kick. Following this a goal was kicked for the Berries to be one point in front when the final siren sounded! Canterbury players met with a great ovation on returning to the pavilion, their numerous supporters went wild with delight. We had only lost three games for the season. Canterbury 6 13 49 defeated Mitcham 7 6 48 Goals kickers for Canterbury were Read 2, Leach, Webster, Stewart, Latham. The best players part was not legible in the newspaper extract. It is to be noted that many players in this Canterbury team were returned Anzacs. We celebrate one of the greatest moments in the club's history. A huge thank you to James Nicolas for providing the details of the match. #premiers #berries #berriesfooty #cobrasfooty #cobrathrowbacks #canterburycobras #cobrasations

18.01.2022 We regret to inform the wider Cobra community that champion Canterbury full back Bob Woodford has passed away. Bob was a star in the late 50s and 60s and a member of our 1956 premiership team. From time to time in recent years Bob would still come down to the club from the country for reunions. Our thoughts are with the entire Woodford family.
17.01.2022 Throwing back to Round 1 2015, when some last quarter heroics from skipper Ben Peel and Scott Fitzgerald got us over the line, just! Report provided by coach Michael Harper. Whilst the word coming from our contacts at Parkside were that their numbers on the track had been thin I knew that we were in exactly the same position 12 months earlier coming into the competition from the EFL. Parkside were returning after 12 years in the NFL and the scene looked very familiar, this wa...s confirmed even further when our Reserves gave the opposition a hiding potentially providing us with a false sense of security. Mid-way through the first quarter it was obvious that Parkside were no easy beats and we were going to have to work to take away 4 points. The kitchen table was dusted off with opponents locking hands for a thrilling 4 quarter arm wrestle. Parkside's midfield were getting on top at the stoppages and their big key players were holding marks in the front and back half. We persevered with the mid set ups with little return as Parkside's desperation for their first win was giving them first use of the footy and putting some real pressure on our ball winners. It was good to see which of the new Canterbury players were going to put their head over the footy and work defensively, some players were found out and others stood up. At 3/4 time we went back to a traditional set up, hopeful our rotations in the first 3 quarters would set us in good stead as we pitched our best mids against theirs resulting in 9 clearance to 1. Now it was us pushing into our half forward line creating scoring opportunities although Parkside were also converting from slingshot footy. We started to get the footy onto the spot in front of goals and 5 big ones from the Fridge in the last quarter managed to get our nose in front with 90 seconds left on the clock, holding on to get over the line by the slimmest of margins. Great Game by Ben Peel, and Scoota picked up where he left off last year. Both Hanrahan and Pearce slotted back into the side with great first up games. #cobrathrowbacks #canterburycobras #cobrasations #ynsa #vafa

14.01.2022 Five years ago today! Match report provided by premiership winning assistant coach Damien Reeves. Some people play their whole football careers and never get a chance to take home a premiership medal. After a very successful season, that was not the case for the Cobras. We had won our way into the big dance and now had the chance to become premiership players. For those of us who had been part of the 2014 preliminary final loss at Parade College, we now had the chance to head...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Five years ago today! Match report provided by premiership winning coach John Doak. The Cobra 2s are premiers!! In one of the finest performances I have seen from a reserves side, we overcame adversity during the week to put out a gutsy 4 quarter performance, knocking off the undefeated Westbourne Grammarians by 20pts to claim the flag....Continue reading
09.01.2022 The club was deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of long time supporter and committee member Lorraine Johnson. Up until recent years Lorraine was a familiar face at games both home and away. Always up for a chat, Lorraine would often be seen selling tickets in the weekly meat raffle or talking to the players in the rooms after the games. Our condolences go out to Rex, Phil, Katie and family....
08.01.2022 COBRA THROWBACK Heading into the last round for season 2017, we were sitting 5th on the ladder though still alive and a serious chance of making the finals after our stirring away victory against eventual premiers UHS/VU the previous week. The equation boiled down to this: we needed to beat Richmond Central at home, and we needed 4th placed Westbourne Grammarians to lose to the top side in UHS/VU. The only catch was our required winning margin needed to be at least 65 point...s, as we were still around 5% behind Westbourne and 4 premiership points in arrears. With Ben Peel (previous club captain and great clubman for 12 years) and Scott Fitzgerald (senior premiership player 2015) announcing their retirements prior to the game, we didn't need any more motivation to go out there and get the job done. With all of the components of our game starting to come together nicely over the last month, and with some newfound confidence after winning three on the trot including beating the top side, we were firing on all cylinders from the get go. By quarter time we piled on 7.3 and held our opponents scoreless to be 45 points up. From there we kept it going, and by half time were 52 points up with our foots right on the throats of the imposter snakes. With the scores tightly locked out at Westbourne, we knew our work wasn't done and didn't let off in the second half, playing some exceptionally clean footy as we registered our highest score in the VAFA and went on the defeat Richmond to the tune of 118 points. But this wasn't enough for us, as Westbourne went on to record a courageous win over UHS-VU at home and lock in 4th to keep us out of the race!! Goal kickers: J. Wilson 5, J. Coghlan West 4, M. Szabo 3, R. Walmsley 3, A. Hummerston 3, T. Lowden 2, G. Driscoll 2, J. Blakemore 2, N. Szabo, A. Wheeler, S. Fitzgerald, R. Hummerston Best players: T. Lowden, J. Wilson, J. Coghlan West, R.
