22.01.2022 End of an era when Canterbury Antiques dealer had her final auction of all her antiques last Sunday. She has sold her shop, bought by Basscare. This shop built in 1888 is the oldest remaining shop in Canterbury and was famously for its first 60 odd years, Weymouths Hardware. It is completely original inside and one of its kind, and we will never see an interior as original as this. Robin had been in Canterbury for over 30 years and was once of the key ladies who as a group fo...ught successfully to get a heritage overlay on the central Canterbury area. Her work to preserve the remaining history outside this overlay has continued to this day.She has won and lost these battles. In her former life as Robin Vanser, she sung with some of Australia's best acts and was a star of the caberet and stage show circuit, and entertained our troops in Vietnam with her singing. This is a true end of an era with her going and her shop closed. Who knows what the future is for this historic shop on Canterbury Rd near the railway overpass under its new ownership. Well done Robin and thanks for all your work to save and preserve Canterbury's history & heritage. I know some sunny day we'll meet again........
