I have been an avid supporter of Sydney women's football and the Matilda's. "I am passionate about women's football. I have played football with Canterbury Junior Football club, as a goalkeeper for about 14 years. In 2018 I had to stop playing as a goalkeeper as I had injured my shoulder and won't play in goals ever again, 2019 saw me play on the field and I managed to score my first goal ever!" #SydneyIsSkyBlue #Premi4rs #Champion5

04.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of CJFC and CDSFA life member, Vince Laws. Vince started playing at the age of 11 with the Lilyfield Wanderers Club in the Canterbury Association and eventually played football for the Pyrmont Club in the old NSW Association. In 1964, Vince registered his son with CJFC and was persuaded to coach a team in the Under 9 competition. Vince accepted the request to coach thinking he would do so for one year. How wrong he was, as... he continued to coach teams with the Canterbury Club for 33 consecutive years. During his coaching career at CJFC, he coached the Premier League squad, both grades for 9 years. Vince also coached teams in the NSWASF Amateur Cup, winning the Tournament in 1982 when his Canterbury Junior side defeated Sylvania from Sutherland Association. In 1994, Vince retired from coaching at CJFC after suffering a heart attack. Vince had somewhat of a reputation for becoming animated on the sideline when his teams were playing. When Vince ceased active coaching in 1994, he took on the role of ground manager for CJFC. From the period 1972 to 1985, Vince was the President of CJFC. Vince also coached Metropolitan Representative Teams for the Canterbury Association for nine years during which time the Association won a number of Metropolitan Representative Competitions conducted by the Sydney Branch of the NSW Amateur Soccer Federation. A highlight for Vince was when his Metropolitan Representative team played a curtain raiser against Sutherland Association before the Manchester United game at the Sydney Sports Ground. From the mid 1960’s Vince served the CDSFA on a continuous basis, holding positions on various committees. Vince has been a large part of the CJFC and CDSFA community, with our girls gala day and a CDSFA medal named in honour of the combined efforts and dedication of Vince and his wife Val. They embodied what community service spirit truly represents. He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to the entire Laws family. As a sign of respect, we ask all Canterbury teams to have 1 minute of silence at the start of their games this weekend.
