25.01.2022 Thanks to Jeanne for this one. XD

24.01.2022 Daylight Savings boo-boo. We may be open a smidge late today. :/

23.01.2022 New (much delayed) batch of masks arrived the other day. Gee it would be marvellous if we never have to use them in anger. We are so very fortunate in this town. *Crosses fingers, arms, toes, legs and eyes* ... People can sometimes seem too relaxed in these placid waters, but we ourselves are not taking it for granted. :/ Best wishes to everyone struggling with the current predicament.

23.01.2022 Bookseller's Personal Memories - one year ago: Ah, the blessed, calm sanctuary of the back room. The only part of a shop where a retail employee's facial expressions can truly run free. #retaillife

23.01.2022 XD Thank you, Jeff's Books for this one.

20.01.2022 Yes, we are open today, usual hours. :)7

20.01.2022 A little gem that is easily overlooked. Not much to look at when the dust wrapper is on, but very nicely preserved pictorial cover underneath. These dust wrappers are very uncommon. Book collectors gave little thought to them back in the day. Most took them off and threw them away the moment they shelved their new purchase.

20.01.2022 Bookseller's Particularly Personal Memories - 6 years ago: Bookseller to Tiny Daughter: What kind of pasta would you like? We have bowties, spaghetti, shells, tubes... Tiny Daughter: TUBES! So I can put them on my FINgers! ... Bookseller: Mais bien sûr, mademoiselle...

17.01.2022 An interesting interview with a fairly high-profile rare book dealer.

14.01.2022 Somewhere in the world there is or, preferably, WAS a secondhand bookshop that put a sticker like this on the back of every book. *Mind boggles* Wherever they are, I hope they are feeling the immediate effects of this bookseller's hefty, flaming, sulphurous, curse I'm putting on them right now.

13.01.2022 Oh, this is a beauty. Bookseller's Personal Memories - 11 Years Ago: Customer: Excuse me. This sticker book here. Do you mind if my child does just one sticker?

12.01.2022 We don't stock a lot of interior design, as it is too often a victim of breakneck trends to suit the grinding, glacial turnover of this large, old-fashioned bookshop. However, this handsome volume from 2018 had such a delightfully prophetic cover, I couldn't resist.

12.01.2022 Mercy! 118 Marvel and DC graphic novels. Almost all of them still in their original shrink-wrap. No idea where we are going to put all of these.

11.01.2022 POST CONTAINS EASTER HOURS Bookseller's Personal Memories - 8 years ago: Player 1: I thought *you* bought the Easter eggs!... Player 2: I thought *YOU* bought the Easter eggs!!! Remember people, as Easter approaches "Doveryai, no proveryai." While we are on that theme... Our Easter hours are our usual hours, but minus Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Simple as that. A quick glance at the overloaded shelves in this place and last week's sales figures tells me that a bunch of you had a good time at the Lifeline Bookfair! Did any of you find any particularly choice treasures?

09.01.2022 Marvellous stuff. :)

08.01.2022 So it seems our photo was lifted on to Reddit (without our permission) and then circulated to a wider audience by News.com.au (without any permission from or credit to Canty's Bookshop of course). Of course, every time you click on it, Rupert Murdoch gets a little richer. Good gravy! What have we done?

07.01.2022 EDIT: Bagsies have been called. If you know what this is, you know what this is. As new. ... Still shrink-wrapped and double-boxed. $750. First caller on 62806414 gets dibs.

06.01.2022 Impressive, but not surprising.

04.01.2022 I'm... I'm letting that one through to the keeper...

03.01.2022 I'm not sure exactly how surprised I should be right now, but that gamble I took with an online Indian print-on-demand purchase with accompanying leatherbound edition upsell email was actually a pretty good experience overall, despite some communication problems.

02.01.2022 Some nicely regimented patterns on the endpapers of a curious book I couldn't resist. Somehow, in the midst of a spot of Jerry trouble and assorted WWII biffo, Field-Marshal Viscount Wavell (GCB, GCSI, GCIE, CMG, MC) managed to put together and have published an anthology of poetry. The advantages of having a good batman, I suppose...

01.01.2022 Bookseller's Personal Memories: 8 years ago. 3 yr old Daughter: Okay, I'll be the Princess and you can be the Pea. Laura: What does the Pea do? 3 yr old Daughter: You go under my mattress, Mama.
