22.01.2022 Looking at putting together a local T1D Club to help support each other, offer and listen to advice, raise awareness of T1D, get our kids new friends, help each other out, and generally just speak with people who are going through the same tough issues with T1D. Fun activities, Professional talks with Consultants, Nutritionists and much more possibilities. We are a family of 4 children with our youngest Angel 6 years old only recently diagnosed 4th July this year. If you are interested in joining up with us let us know or if you know anyone local with T1D please pass it onto them.

19.01.2022 Well it’s long overdue for a BBQ and catch up at our place so was thinking maybe next Saturday 19th Jan if anyone is keen, also bring in some more friends out there in the T1 Community. Call me if keen 0499770106

19.01.2022 Good to catch up with some very special T1D Canungra families last week for a BBQ at ours, we are a small community here in Canungra with some extraordinary kids fighting battles with Type 1 Diabetes, and parents who know what each of us need to do. These kids will go on and be champions of whatever they choose, the strength they all have gained through the daily grind of T1D will make sure of it. Looking forward to the next catch up

18.01.2022 1.9 BGL Yesterday at school Angel had a severe Hypo with dangerous low blood sugars of 1.9, he walked into class after first break and playtime and his teacher noticed he was a bit wobbly and wasn't with it. The ambulance was called and luckily action taken quickly to bring his BGL levels up before he dropped into a seizure. Last night we had minimal sleep for Shar and I as monitoring his levels after a serious low needs to happen as the liver dumps its supply of gluca...gon into his system after a severe Hypo. The Education system doesn't have any real full time care in place for Type 1 Diabetic kids however will have full time care for other kids with certain criteria, who don't have a risk of dying at school. The risk of a Type 1 kid going into a seizure and dying is there even if it's minimal it's a risk and this isn't enough to warrant adding a small amount into school budgets for a carer apparently. Our Local Primary school has three beautiful kids all with Type I Diabetes and all are very different with their needs, this disease isn't easily put into a box with each case varying greatly between kids. I'm currently trying to make things change with the Education Dept and need support to do this.

16.01.2022 Oh dear the graph says it all, running on about 9 hours sleep in 3 days

13.01.2022 World Diabetes Day Why is it recognised on this day? November 14 1841 is the birth date of Sir Frederick Grant Banting. Who is that? Sir Frederick Banting was a Canadian medical scientist who co-discovered insulin and how it could help a person with Diabetes.... In 1923, Sir Frederick Banting and John James Macleod received a Nobel Price in Medicine for the discovery. In 1989 a ‘Flame of Hope’ was lit up by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, as a tribute to Dr Frederick Banting and all the people that have lost their lives to dabetes. The flame will remain lit until there is a cure. When a cure is found, the flame will be extinguished by the researchers who discover the cure. The flame is located at Sir Frederick Banting Square in London, Ontario, Canada beside the Banting House National Historic Site of Canada.

05.01.2022 Why the picture of Jim Carey looking lost? Let me explain - Today at Canungra Primary School we take Angel to school to find out that he has a relief teacher, which we have been assured that they have all some training in dealing with and understanding children with Type 1 Diabetes. So as a concerned father I go inside and introduce myself to her and ask if she knew she had 2 children with Type 1 Diabetes in her class today. The answer was yes it's written here on my sheet.... So I ask what does that mean to you, in which the reply was ' If anything goes wrong then she calls'. My next question is what are some of those things that can go wrong and that's when I get the Jim Carey look, she admitted to knowing absolutely zero, nothing, nudder about Type 1 Diabetes! . I thanked her for her honesty and explained I won't be leaving Angel nor will the other child with Type 1 be left in her care at school today. I will be making yet another formal complaint to the School and will not give up on my child who deserves the care whilst at school. This is a National Problem at schools and something needs to change now.

05.01.2022 Copied from another FB post - THIS IS AN INTERESTING ARTICLE - THIS is why I get pissed off with some people - read and learn!!......... I had an interesting conversation with a woman today. She asked me if I was working or if I had the day off... and this is how the conversation went: me: No, I am not working right now. I was working but I lost my job when my son was diagnosed with an incurable auto-immune disorder and I had to be available to tend to my son when the school... nurse was not available. Lady: oh wow. What is it like? me: what is it like? or what does he have? Lady: what is it like? me: well, his pancreas no longer works so he wears an external organ that I have to manage by giving him medicine through it. If he didn't have the external organ he would have multiple injections per day to manage it. Lady: oh my god!!! me: it's sometimes hard to manage it because everything seems to be a factor. exercise, lack of exercise, illness, food intake. If he gets too much medication and it goes undetected he can seizure, pass out, or die. If he doesn't get enough it damages his internal organs. So he has to be monitored constantly. Lady: OH MY GOD! how AWFUL! I would NEVER work again if that was my child. How old is he? me: 8 Lady: (almost in tears) That is absolutely awful. What is is called? me: Type 1 diabetes Lady: did you say diabetes? me: I said, Type 1 diabetes Lady: seriously??? Doesn't he just have to cut back on sugar? isn't it interesting that she was SO concerned until she heard the name of his disease? Proof (not that I needed it) that there is a serious lack of education on Type 1 diabetes. See more
