25.01.2022 As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to explode globally, many of us have been pondering whether it is still safe to head out on adventures. The advice from medic...al experts is that the best thing we can all do as a community to slow the spread of coronavirus is to socially isolate. That means working from home, not going to social gatherings, and avoiding unnecessary travel. Hard as it is to hear, outdoor adventures fall into that final category. Not only do you risk spreading the virus (most trips aren't done solo and there is evidence coronavirus can survive on hard surfaces and in water for days), but if you need a rescue you'll be adding to an already strained health system. Put your adventures on hold. Use the time to sort photos from your old adventures or trawl maps and trip reports for inspiration for future trips when life returns to normal. Nature will still be there at the end of this, but if we as a community don't do our part, many thousands of people may not. See more

09.01.2022 The Canyon Gear store is guided by three central objectives: to provide a service to canyoners, to support a sustainable future for canyons, and to protect the environment more broadly. In light of the horrific year we've just had, I've donated all proceeds from the store to a range of community and environmental organisations. It's been an extremely tough year for many people, but if you've been lucky enough to get through unscathed, please consider sharing some of that good... fortune. https://fatcanyoners.org///29/nature-needs-a-helping-hand/

09.01.2022 New product: Dyneema pull cord extender When using a fiddlestick-style toggle, the end of the pull cord closest to the anchor suffers the majority of the wear and tear as it runs over abrasive rocks and sharp edges. The pull cord extender is a sacrificial tool that takes this abuse, protecting your main pull cord so it doesn’t need replacing or end up being cut shorter. Made from the highest grade of Dyneema available (SK99), the 5m length is terminated at each end with a Loc...ked Brummel Eye Splice. More info: https://www.canyongear.com.au/p/dyneema-pull-cord-extender/

03.01.2022 It might not be possible to go canyoning at the moment, but that doesn't mean you can't improve your technical rope skills. One resource we highly rate is Rich Carlson's website (https://canyonsandcrags.com/knowledge-base/). His "knowledge base" section contains a range of articles on rigging, rescue, and canyon problem-solving, many with great video tutorials. He also shares his insights on Facebook via The Art of Ropework group.

03.01.2022 You're never too young for awesome canyoning gear! Baby River might not know how to use it yet, but if his enthusiastic chomping on a SQWUREL was anything to go by he may share his father's outdoor gear obsession. (P.S. BluuGnome / BG Gear, you may have a whole new market for high-end chew toys.)
